Conservation is the process of accurately recovering the form and detail of a structure as it appeared at a particular period of time. This may include demolition of later portions of the structure that are not in harmony with the period of restoration or replacing pieces of the original work. Frequently we find that a house built around 1920 in coral and mud with chandal roofing, has been added on and altered with cement blocks and reinforced concrete roofing. Conservation should aim at bringing the buildings back to their original form of which large number of people remembers it as an important building.
