Is an important concept in public health

• Is the expression by a patient or the public of a
desire to receive health care related to their
perceived needs
• For effective planning and evaluation of any health
service, both estimates of levels of need as well as
demand for treatment should be taken into account

12. FACTORS AFFECTING DEMANDS
1. Age: dental utilization rates are lower for children under 5, and person
over 65 years old.
2. Gender: females used dental services more than males, but in some age
and education groups the rate were similar.
3. Education: the utilization rate increases with increasing the level of
education, the education level of the head of the household is important.
4. Socioeconomic status: higher social classes utilize dental services more
frequently than lower social classes, why? (high classes, high income,
good education)
5. Occupation: persons in professional occupations visit their dentist more
frequently than non skilled manual workers.

14. DENTAL MAN POWER
• Is the heart of the dental public health
programs.
• Defined as individuals with a kind of
knowledge, skills, and attitude needed to
achieve predetermined health targets and
ultimately health status objectives.

15. DENTAL HEALTH MAN POWER PLANNING
• Defined as the process of estimating the number of
persons and the kind of knowledge and skills they
need to have to pre determined dental health targets,
it involve the followings:
1. Analysis dental health needs and demands for the
population which obtained from epidemiological
surveys and treatments records
2. Assessment of present dental health and man power
availability
3. Formulation of a policy
4. Estimation of future manpower requirements.
