1. Prevention and control of diseases of oral
cavity.
2. They are legally entitled to treat patients
independently.
3. Prescribe certain drugs.
4. Employ and supervise auxiliary personnel.

4. Dental auxiliary
• Is a person who is gives responsibility by a
dentist, it is a generic term for all persons who is
assist the dentist in patient management render
dental care
• Dental auxiliary duties range from simple task
(sorting instruments) to complex procedure
which form part of treatment of patients
• They play an important roll in dental public
health.

5. WHO classify dental auxiliary
according to:
1. The training they have received.
2. The task they are expected to
undertake.
3. Legal restrictions placed upon them.

7. Non operating auxiliary
• Clinical non operating auxiliary: assists the
dentist in his clinical work but does not carry
out any independent procedures in the oral
cavity.
• Laboratory non operating auxiliary: assists
the dentist by carrying out certain technical
laboratory procedures.

Give instruction in the prevention of oral /
dental disease.

13. Dental laboratory technician
A person who fulfilled the perception
provide by dentists, Their work is
mostly performed in laboratories and
not in dental practice setting

15. Dental laboratory technician
Duties:
1. extra oral constriction and repair of oral
appliance and bridge work.
2. repaired dental appliances.
3. casting a models from impression by
dentist.
4. fabricating of denture, splints, orthodontic
appliances, inlay, crowns and special trays.

deciduous teeth under LA.

A person who licensed and registered to
practice dental hygiene under the law of
the appropriate state, proven, territory or
nation, also work under the supervision
of dentists

24. Dental hygienist
Duties:
1. cleaning of mouth and teeth from
calculus and stain.
2. Topical application of fluoride and
sealants and other prophylactic
solutions.
3. Screening school children so that
may refer to dentist for treatment.
4. OH instruction.

25.  Expanded function dental
auxiliary (EFDA)
They are assistant and in some cases
hygienist with additional training for
other dental treatment duties, under
supervision of a dentist.

EFDA perform the following operations
(duties):
1. Placing and removing TF , rubber dam,
and matrix band.
2. Condensing and carving amalgam in
previously prepared teeth.
3. Placing of acrylic restoration in previously
prepared teeth.
4. Help the dentist in four handed
relationship.

27. Four handed relationship
Definition:
A term given on art of seating both the dentist and dental
assistant in such away that both are within easy reach of the
patients mouth.
Description:
The patient is in a fully supine position, the assistant
will hand the dentist, particular instrument he needs,
in addition to retraction and aspiration. This will
decrease the fatigue of dentist and increase
efficiency.
