Student Laptops All Yr 7s have a laptop for August 2009 An expectation that all IB students have a laptop for August 2009 Longer term plan is for each new Yr 7 cohort to have laptops
Move from a model of having a ‘computer’ lesson to one where students are using technology in a seamless way, as and when it is most appropriate. Communication  – integrated use of Web 2.0 tools, such as wikis, blogs, conferencing, forums.  Collaboration  – shared documents, working with other schools. Creativity  – further use of multi-media resources. Independent learning  – increasing opportunities as resources develop, on-line/personalised learning. Digital Natives  – technology/ICT literate, confident users of technology, make decisions on appropriate use of technology, generic software skills.
Challenges Cost – parents and school Security Infrastructure – network Health issues – eyes, back … Weight Social issues – ‘Computer geek!’ Student use – distraction, e.g. Facebook Staff Training
Timeline School Council informed of LT position. Permission  requested to go to tender (May 2008) Decision on the vendor for the laptops (by November 2008) – tender process, school community involvement (+P6) All teachers issued with new laptop (Jan 2009) CPD (ongoing) Network upgrade (Jan – April 09)   P6 parents evening / Collection of laptops by P6 Resolve practicalities – lockers, security etc..
