Investigation of behaviour of 3 degrees of freedom systems for transient loadseSAT Journals
Abstract
In this work, the energies dissipated by the spring mass damper system with three degrees of freedom are modelled and simulated for three types of external loads, namely, constant load, exponential decaying load overtime and a partial load over a time period. Two models of the spring mass damper system are modelled and the governing equations are derived. The velocities of the oscillators are estimated by solving the corresponding governing equations for loss of factor of 0.15. The kinetic and potential energies are calculated using the mass, velocity and stiffness of the oscillators and total energy is estimated. , when the load is changed from full load to a partial load over a time period, there is significant increase in the displacement and the velocity at near 0.75 sec, which means it dissipates more energy The contribution of the kinetic energy is minimal for oscillator 2 in all cases and the total energy is constituted mostly of potential energy and there is a substantial contribution both by kinetic and potential energy of oscillator 1 and 3 is presented in this paper. Unit vector template generator applied to a new control algorithm for an UPQC...IJECEIAES
In this paper we present a new algorithm to generate the reference signals to control the series and parallel power inverters in a unified power quality conditioner “UPQC” to enhance power quality. The algorithm is based on the instantaneous power tensor formulation which it is obtained by the dyadic product between the instantaneous vectors of voltage and current in n-phase systems. The perfect harmonic cancellation algorithm “PHC” to estimate the current reference in a shunt active power filter was modified to make it hardy to voltage sags through unit vector template generation “UVGT” while from the same algorithm it extracts the voltage reference for series active power filter. The model was validated by mean of simulations in Matlab-Simulink®.

This article presents some results of SEPIC converter dynamics when controlled by a center pulse width modulator controller (CPWM). The duty cycle is calculated using the ZAD (Zero Average Dynamics) technique. Results obtained using this technique show a great variety of non-linear phenomena such as bifurcations and chaos, as parameters associated with the switching surface. These phenomena have been studied in the present paper in numerical form. Simulations were done in MATLAB.
Transient Stability Analysis of IEEE 9 Bus System in Power World SimulatorIJERA Editor
It is widely accepted that transient stability is an important aspect in designing and upgrading electric power
system.
The objective of this paper was to investigate and understand the stability of power system
In this paper, modelling and transient stability analysis of IEEE 9 bus system was performed using POWER
WORLD SIMULATOR. The load flow studies were performed to determine pre-fault conditions in the system
using Newton-Raphson method. With the help of three-phase balanced fault, the variations in power angle and
frequency of the system were studied. Frequency is a reliable indicator if deficiency condition in the power
systems exists or not. For three-phase balanced fault, fast fault clearing time was analysed to bring back the
system to the stability. Further, comparison between Runga method and Euler method for better results was
performed. Hence, impact of load switching on system was also computed so as to bring system to steady state.

Vibrational Behaviour of Composite Beams Based on Fiber Orientation with Piez...IJMERJOURNAL
ABSTRACT: A smart structure can sense the vibration and generate a controlled actuation, so that the vibration can be minimized. For this purpose, smart materials are used as actuators and sensors. Among all the smart materials Lead Zirconate Titanate (PZT) is used as smart material and the smart structures are taken as carbon-epoxy cantilever beams. In the present work an attempt has been made to study the effect of dimensions of PZT and position of PZT on the natural frequency of smart structure. In this work the simulation analysis and experimental analysis were carried out on the carbon epoxy cantilever beams for different fibre orientations like 00 ,300 and 600 with and without PZT patch at different positions. The simulation is carried out by using ANSYS and experimentation is carried out by using FFT analyser, accelerometer and impact hammer. Both the experimentation and simulation results show the effective control in the vibration of the structure, the required decrease in the natural frequency is observed with reference to the both patch dimension and position. Thus the results of this work conclude that the dimensions of the PZTand positioning of the PZT influences the natural frequency of the smart structure.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

Introduction:
Control system theory evolved as an engineering discipline and
due to universality of the principles involved, it is extended to
various fields like economy, sociology, biology, medicine, etc
Control theory has played a vital role in the advance of
engineering and science. The automatic control has become an
integral part of modern manufacturing and industrial processes
example, numerical control of machine tools in
manufacturing industries, controlling pressure, temperature,
humidity, viscosity and flow in process industry.
When a number of elements or components are connected in a
sequence to perform a specific function, the group thus formed
is called a system. In a system when the output quantity is
controlled by varying the input quantity, the system is called
control system
3. EE T44 Ms.T.Abinaya saraswathy [AP/EEE] ACET/EEE/2020-2021
open control system
Any physical system does not automatically correct the
variation in its output, is called an open loop system, or
control system in which the output quantity has no effect upon
the input quantity are called open-loop control system. This
means that the output is not feedback to the input for
correction.
4. EE T44 Ms.T.Abinaya saraswathy [AP/EEE] ACET/EEE/2020-2021
CLOSED LOOP CONTROL SYSTEM
Control systems in which the output has an effect upon the input quantity in
such a manner as to maintain the desired output value are called closed loop
systems.
The open loop system can be modified as closed loop system by providing a
feedback. The provision of feedback automatically corrects the changes in
output due to disturbances. Hence the closed loop system is also called
automatic control system.
5. EE T44 Ms.T.Abinaya saraswathy [AP/EEE] ACET/EEE/2020-2021
Advantages of open loop systems:
The open loop systems are simple and economical
The open loop systems are easier to construct
Generally the open loop systems are stable
Disadvantage of open loop systems
The open loop systems are inaccurate and unreliable.
The changes in the output due to external disturbances
are not corrected automatically.
6. EE T44 Ms.T.Abinaya saraswathy [AP/EEE] ACET/EEE/2020-2021
Advantages of closed loop systems
The closed loop systems are accurate
The closed loop systems are accurate even in the
presence of non-linearity
Disadvantages of closed loop systems:
The closed loop systems are complex and costlier
The feedback in closed loop system may lead to
oscillatory response
The feedback reduces the overall gain of the system
Stability is a major problem in closed loop system
and more care is needed o design a stable closed
loop system.

MATHEMATICAL MODELS OF CONTROL SYSTEMS
A control system is a collection of physical objects connected
together to serve an objective. The input output relations of
various physical components of a system are governed by
differential equations
The mathematical model of a control system constitutes a set
of differential equations for various input conditions.
The mathematical model of a system is linear if it obeys the
principle of superposition and homogeneity
The principle implies that if a system model has responses y1(t)
and y2(t) to any inputs x1(t) and x2(t) respectively, then the
system response to the linear combination of these inputs
a1x1(t)+a2x2(t) is given by linear combination of the individual
outputs a1y1(t)+a2y2(t), where a1 and a2 are constants

TRANSFER FUNCTION
The differential equations of a linear time invariant system
can be reshaped into different form for the convenience of
analysis. One such model for single input and single output
system analysis is transfer function of the system.
The transfer function of a system is defined as the ratio of
Laplace transform of output to the Laplace transform of input
with zero initial conditions.

MECHANICAL TRANSLATIONAL SYSTEM
The model of mechanical translational systems can be obtained
by using three basic elements mass, spring and dash-pot. These three
elements represent three essential phenomena which occur in
various ways in mechanical systems.
The weight of the mechanical system is represented by the
element mass and it is assumed to be concentrated at the center of
the body.
The elastic deformation of the body can be represented by a
spring. The friction existing in mechanical system can be
represented by the dash-pot. The dash-pot is a piston moving inside
a cylinder filled with viscous fluid.
When a force is applied to a translational mechanical system, it is
opposed by opposing forces due to mass, friction and elasticity of
the system. The force acting on mechanical bodies is governed by
Newton’s second law of motion. For translational systems it states
that the sum of forces acting on a body is zero

GUIDELINE TO DETERMINE THE TRANSFER FUNC
TION OF MECHANICALTRANSLATIONAL SYSTEM
In mechanical translational system, the differential equations governing
the system are obtained by writing force balance equations at nodes in the
system. The nodes are meeting point of elements. Generally the nodes are
mass elements in the system. In some cases the nodes may be without
mass element.
The linear displacements of the masses are assumed as x1, x2, x3, etc. and
assign a displacement to each mass. The first derivative of the
displacement is velocity and the second derivative of the displacement is
acceleration
Draw the free body diagrams of the system. The free body diagram is
obtained by drawing each mass separately and then marking all the forces
acting on that mass. Always the opposing force acts in a direction
opposite to applied force. The mass has to move in the direction of the
applied force
18. EE T44 Ms.T.Abinaya saraswathy [AP/EEE] ACET/EEE/2020-2021
Hence the displacement, velocity and acceleration of the mass will
be in the direction of the applied force. If there is no applied force
then the displacement, velocity and acceleration of the mass is in a
direction opposite to that of opposing force.
For each free body diagram write one differential equation by
equating the sum of applied forces to the sum of opposing forces.
Take Laplace transform of differential equations to convert them to
algebraic equations. Then rearrange the s-domain equations to
eliminate the unwanted variables and obtain the ratio between output
variable and input variable. This ratio is the transfer function of the
system

NOTE
Laplace Transform of x (t) = L [x (t)] = X(s)
Laplace transform of dx (t)/dt with zero initial
conditions = L [d/dt (x(t))]=s X(s)
Laplace transform of d2x (t)/dt2 with zero
initial conditions = L [d/dt (x2(t))]=s2 X(s)

1.4 MECHANICAL ROTATIONAL SYSTEMS
The model of rotational mechanical systems can be obtained by using
three elements, moment of inertia (J) of mass, dash-pot with rotational
frictional coefficient (B) and torsional spring with stiffness (K).
The weight of the rotational mechanical system is represented by the
moment of inertial of the mass. The moment of inertia of the system or
body is considered to be concentrated at the centre of gravity of the body.
The elastic deformation of the body can be represented by a spring. The
friction existing in rotational mechanical system can be represented by the
dash-pot. The dash-pot is a piston rotating inside a cylinder filled with
viscous fluid.
When a torque is applied to a rotational mechanical system, it is opposed
by opposing torques due to moment of inertia, friction and elasticity of the
system. The torques acting on a rotational mechanical body is governed by
Newton’s second law of motion for rotational systems. It states that the sum
of torques using on a body is zero.

BLOCK DIAGRAM
control system may consist of a number of components. In control
engineering to show the functions performed by each component, we
commonly use a diagram called the block diagram.
A block diagram of a system is a pictorial representation of the functions
performed by each component and of the flow of signals. Such a diagram
depicts the interrelationships that exist among the various components.
The elements of a block diagram are block, branch point and summing
point.

BLOCK
In a block diagram all system variables are linked to each other through
functional blocks. The functional block or simply block is a symbol for the
mathematical operation on the input signal to the block that produces the
output. The transfer functions of the components are usually entered in the
corresponding blocks, which are connected by arrows to indicate the
direction of the flow of signal
The arrowhead pointing towards the block indicates the input, and the
arrowhead leading away from the block represents the output. Such arrows
are referred to as signals. The output signal from the block is given by the
product of input signal and transfer function in the block.

SUMMING POINT:
Summing points are used to add two or more signals in the system.
Referring to figure 1.26, a circle with a cross the symbol that indicates a
summing operation.
The plus or minus sign at each arrowhead indicates whether the signal is to
be added or subtracted. It is important that the quantities being added or
subtracted have the same dimensions and the same units.

BRANCH POINTS:
A branch points is a point from which the signal from a block goes
concurrently to other blocks or summing points

CONSTRUCTING BLOCK DIAGRAM FOR CONTROL
SYSTEM:
A control system can be represented diagrammatically
by block diagram. The differential equations governing
the system are used construct the bock diagram. By
taking Laplace transform the differential equations are
converted to the algebraic equations.
The equations will have variables and constants. Form
the working knowledge of the system the input and
output variables are identified and the block diagram
for each equation can be drown. Each equation gives
one section of block diagram. The output on one
section will be input for another section. The various
sections are interconnected to obtain the overall
blockdiagram of the system.

1.7 SIGNAL FLOW GRAPH
The signal flow graph is used to represent the control system
graphically and it was developed by S.J. Mason.
A signal flow graph is a diagram that represents a set of
simultaneous linear algebraic equations. By taking Laplace
transform, the time domain differential equations governing a
control system can be transferred to a set of algebraic equations in
S-domain.
The signal flow graph and block diagram approach yield the same
information. The advantages in signal flow graph method is that
using mason’s gain formula the overall gain of the system can be
computer easily.
The signal flow graph depicts the flow of signal from one point of a
system to another and gives the relationship among the signals. A
signal flow graph consists of a network in which nodes connected by
directed branches. Each node represents a system variable and each
branch connected between two nodes acts as a signal multiplier.
Each branch has a gain or transmittance, when signal pass through a
branch, it gets multiplied by the gain of the branch.
32. EE T44 Ms.T.Abinaya saraswathy [AP/EEE] ACET/EEE/2020-2021
In a signal flow graph, the signal flows in only one direction. The direction
of signal flow is indicated by an arrow placed on the branch and the gain
(multiplication factor) is indicated along the branch.
Explanation of Terms Used In Signal Flow Graph
NODE: A node is a point representing a variable or signal.
BRANCH: A branch is directed line segment joining two nodes. The
arrow on the branch indicates the direction of signal flow and the gain of a
branch is the transmittance.
TRANSMITTANCE: the gain acquired by the signal when it travels from
one node to another is called transmittance. The transmittance can be real
or complex.
INPUT NODE (source): It is a node that has only outgoing branches.
OUTPUT NODE (sink): It is a node that has only incoming branches.
MIXED NODE: It is a node that has both incoming and outgoing branches.
A path is traversal of connected branches in the direction of the branch
arrows. The path should not cross a node more than once.
OPEN PATH: An open path starts at a node and ends at another node.
CLOSED PATH: Closed path starts and ends at the same node.

FORWARD PATH: It is a path from an input node to an
output node that does not cross any node more than once.
FORWARD PATH GAIN : It is the product of the branch
transmittances (gains) of a forward path.
INDIVIDUAL LOOP: It is a closed path starting from a
node and after passing through a certain path of a graph
arrives at same node without crossing any node more than
once.
LOOP GAIN : It is the product of the branch
transmittances (gain) of a loop.
NON-touching Loops: If the loop does not have a common
node then they are said to be non-touching loops.

PROPERTIES OF SIGNAL FLOW GRAPH
The algebraic equations which are used to construct signal flow
graph must be in the form of cause and effect relationship.
Signal flow graph is applicable to linear systems only.
A node in the signal flow graph represents the variable or signal.
A node adds the signals of all incoming branches and transmits the
sum to all outgoing branches.
A mixed node which has both incoming and outgoing signals can be
treated as an output node by adding an outgoing branch of unity
transmittance.
A branch indicates functional dependence of one signal on the other.
The signals travel along branches only in the marked direction and
when it travels it gets multiplied by the gain or transmittance of the
branch.
The signal flow graph of system is not unique. By rearranging the
system equations different types of signal flow graphs can be drawn
for a given system

SIGNAL FLOW GRAPH ALGEBRA
Signal flow graph for a system can be reduced to obtain the transfer
function of the system using the following rules. The guideline in
developing the rules for signal flow graph algebra is that the signal at a
node is given by the sum of all incoming signals.
RULE 1: Incoming signal to a node through a branch is given by the
product of a signal at previous node and the gain of the branch.
36. EE T44 Ms.T.Abinaya saraswathy [AP/EEE] ACET/EEE/2020-2021
RULE 2: Cascaded branches can be combined to give a single branch
whose transmittance is equal to product of individual branch transmittance.
RULE 3: Parallel branches may be represented by single branch whose
transmittance is the sum of individual branch transmittances
37. EE T44 Ms.T.Abinaya saraswathy [AP/EEE] ACET/EEE/2020-2021
RULE 4: A mixed node can be eliminated by multiplying the transmittance
of outgoing branch (from the mixed node) to the transmittance of all
incoming branches to the mixed node
RULE 5: A loop may be eliminating by writing equations at the input and
output node and rearranging the equations to find the ratio of output to
input. This ratio gives the gain of resultant branch

MASON’S GAIN FORMULA
The Mason’s gain formula is used to determine the transfer function of the
system from the signal flow graph of the system.
Let, R(s) =Input to the system
C(s) =Output of the system
Now, Transfer function of the system, T(s) = C(s)/(s)
