LeNS is a 3 years project (Dec/2007 - Dec/2010) funded by the European Commission (Asia Link Programme, EuropAid), involving 7 design schools in Europe and Asia

a web platform allowing interested teachers to  download   open source and copyleft tools  and  learning resources  (slideshows, texts, audio-videos, etc.) that could be  modified/remixed  and  reused , i.e.  adapted according to each teacher’s specific didactic needs, institutional requirements and local context peculiarities MAIN OUTPUT:  Open Learning E-Package on DfS focused on PSS
OLEP: INTRO TO MAIN FUNCTIONALITIES a quick tour 1. download/view learning resources by  teacher/course/year 2. download/view learning resources by  content/type 3. uploading a course (learning resources collection) 4. Download and regenerate a LeNS based web site
e.g. a TEACHER wants to set-up/up-date a course on DfS and  wants to search for appropriate learning resources to DOWNLOAD, and modify/remix and REUSE in her/his course e.g. a STUDENT wants to VIEW learning resources of any of the teacher of the network Carlo Vezzoli Politecnico di Milano – INDACO – DIS STORYBOARD 2 downloading/viewing learning resources by teacher/course/year
1.  the  TEACHER/student  wants have access to  all learning resources of a particular teacher/course/year c) … click on the desired teacher/course/ year to access the related learning resources collection  … b) …selects a desired language/s filtering the available  learning resources… a)  the teacher/student clicks on “Learning resources” … … by default the “TEACHER/COURSE/YEAR” section is selected, but a search by “CONTENT/TYPE” is also available…
2.  the  teacher/student  can view and download learning resources by title and by format type from the list of the teacher / course / year c) …and click on download  … a) she/he can view the learning resources by clicking on the eye icon … b) … and then select learning resources she/he want to download… slideshow …  other LR formats video + slideshow
3.  the teacher can remix/modify the copyleft learning resources and  reuse them as learning resource in her/his own course c) …and click on download  … a) she/he can view the learning resources by clicking on the eye icon … b) … and then select learning resources she/he want to download… d) … A TEACHER CAN MODIFY/REMIX THE LEARNING RESOURCES  AND THEN REUSE THEM IN HER/HIS COURSE NEW slideshow …  other NEW LR formats NEW video + slideshow slideshow …  other LR formats video + slideshow
STORYBOARD 2 downloadiew learning resources  by content / type e.g.  a TEACHER  wants  to add a content to his/her own course on DfS e.g. a student wants to view/download a learning resource related to a specific topic
1.  a teacher/student wants to access to all learning resources, with a desired content b) …selects a desired language/s and this will automatically select existing content, year, etc. a) she/he clicks on “search by content / type”… c) …and search with cross filtering  by content, years, formats, license, authors, and resource title d) … once selected the set of filtering it is possible go to view/download by licking on “apply filter”
2.  teacher/student  can view and download learning resources by title and by format type from the list of  filtered by content / type c)  …and click on download  … a)  she/he can view the learning resources by clicking on the eye icon … b)  … and then select learning resources she/he want to download… slideshow …  other LR formats video + slideshow
3.  the teacher can remix/modify the copyleft learning resources and  reuse them as learning resource in her/his own course c)  …and click on download  … a)  she/he can view the learning resources by clicking on the eye icon … b)  … and then select learning resources she/he want to download… slideshow …  other LR formats video + slideshow d) … A TEACHER CAN MODIFY/REMIX THE LEARNING RESOURCES  AND THEN REUSE THEM IN HER/HIS COURSE NEW slideshow …  other NEW LR formats NEW video + slideshow
e.g. a teacher wishes to upload his/her own course STORYBOARD 3 uploading a course (learning resources collection)
1.  A teacher wants to upload his own course a) teacher clicks on upload/modify b) …clicks on “Upload a new course” e) …and on “Go to upload/modify”
2.  Teacher starts the setting-up of the course structure c) ... may  inserts the learning “SUBJECT”  the resource belong to d) … clicks on “Upload” b) …and inserts the set of related “CONTENTS”  a) …inserts the “LEARNING RESOURCE TITLE”
3.  Teacher upload and tags the uploaded file d) … clicks on “done” b) … add a link where the learning resources can be viewed … a) …browse to upload a learning resource c) ... tags the learning resource
join  or become  member  the network >  fill in the record join  the LeNS  network to view/download open learning resources on DfS and PSS or  request to become a  member  if are active in the field of design for sustainability and you want to be listed  or generate  your own issue/local related  affiliated LeNS-based platform

LeNS MEXICO/CENTRAL AMERICA ON DfS: WIN-WIN OPPORTUNITY FOR THE  MEXICO/CENTRAL AMERICA  DESIGN HEIs A LeNS-LIKE NETWORK: .  is cost efficient : the web platform is free of charge .  is time efficient : teachers need simply to up-load slideshows (eventually recorded), texts, etc. they prepare for their lectures .  is knowledge-building efficient : focused copyleft resources speed-up learning-by-sharing-for teaching, i.e. remix/reuse others’ learning resources .  is inclusive:  DfS focus to be defined by Mexican/Central American partners .  is imperative:  sustainability must have a Mexican/Central American perspective .  increases potential for public fundraising : with an established network it is easier to successfully apply for any public fund .  increases potential for private fundraising : reputation and visibility to attract consultancy on design for sustainability

Launch of LeNS Mexico/Central America

  • 2. LeNS is a 3 years project (Dec/2007 - Dec/2010) funded by the European Commission (Asia Link Programme, EuropAid), involving 7 design schools in Europe and Asia

  • 4. a web platform allowing interested teachers to download open source and copyleft tools and learning resources (slideshows, texts, audio-videos, etc.) that could be modified/remixed and reused , i.e. adapted according to each teacher’s specific didactic needs, institutional requirements and local context peculiarities MAIN OUTPUT: Open Learning E-Package on DfS focused on PSS
  • 5. OLEP: INTRO TO MAIN FUNCTIONALITIES a quick tour 1. download/view learning resources by teacher/course/year 2. download/view learning resources by content/type 3. uploading a course (learning resources collection) 4. Download and regenerate a LeNS based web site
  • 6. e.g. a TEACHER wants to set-up/up-date a course on DfS and wants to search for appropriate learning resources to DOWNLOAD, and modify/remix and REUSE in her/his course e.g. a STUDENT wants to VIEW learning resources of any of the teacher of the network Carlo Vezzoli Politecnico di Milano – INDACO – DIS STORYBOARD 2 downloading/viewing learning resources by teacher/course/year
  • 7. 1. the TEACHER/student wants have access to all learning resources of a particular teacher/course/year c) … click on the desired teacher/course/ year to access the related learning resources collection … b) …selects a desired language/s filtering the available learning resources… a) the teacher/student clicks on “Learning resources” … … by default the “TEACHER/COURSE/YEAR” section is selected, but a search by “CONTENT/TYPE” is also available…
  • 8. 2. the teacher/student can view and download learning resources by title and by format type from the list of the teacher / course / year c) …and click on download … a) she/he can view the learning resources by clicking on the eye icon … b) … and then select learning resources she/he want to download… slideshow … other LR formats video + slideshow

  • 11. 1. a teacher/student wants to access to all learning resources, with a desired content b) …selects a desired language/s and this will automatically select existing content, year, etc. a) she/he clicks on “search by content / type”… c) …and search with cross filtering by content, years, formats, license, authors, and resource title d) … once selected the set of filtering it is possible go to view/download by licking on “apply filter”

LeNS MEXICO/CENTRAL AMERICA ON DfS: WIN-WIN OPPORTUNITY FOR THE MEXICO/CENTRAL AMERICA DESIGN HEIs A LeNS-LIKE NETWORK: . is cost efficient : the web platform is free of charge . is time efficient : teachers need simply to up-load slideshows (eventually recorded), texts, etc. they prepare for their lectures . is knowledge-building efficient : focused copyleft resources speed-up learning-by-sharing-for teaching, i.e. remix/reuse others’ learning resources . is inclusive: DfS focus to be defined by Mexican/Central American partners . is imperative: sustainability must have a Mexican/Central American perspective . increases potential for public fundraising : with an established network it is easier to successfully apply for any public fund . increases potential for private fundraising : reputation and visibility to attract consultancy on design for sustainability
