Landscape
architecture
It is the design of outdoor areas, landmarks, and
structures to achieve environmental, social-
behaviour, or aesthetic outcomes. It involves the
systematic investigation of existing social,
ecological, and soil conditions and processes in
the landscape, and the design of interventions
that will produce the desired outcome.

LANDSCAPING
The process of making a piece of
land more attractive by altering
the existing design, adding
ornamental features, and planting
trees and shrubs.
• UNDERSTANDING LAND:
Landscaping varies according to
different regions. Therefore, normally
local natural experts are recommended
if it is done for the first time.
Understanding of the site is one of
the chief essentials for successful
landscaping.

LANDSCAPING:
Different natural
features like terrain
prevailing winds, depth
of land, and the system
of flora and fauna must
be taken into
account. Sometimes the
land is not fit for
landscaping. To overcome
it GRADING should take
place.
GRADING:
This reshaping of
land is
called grading. When
the earth is taken
from the land it is
called cutting while
when earth is added
to the slope, it is
called filling.
Sometimes the grading
process may involve
removal of excessive
waste and rocks, so
designers should take
into account while in

ELEMENTS OF LANDSCAPING:
colour
Your colour element is
going to be the central
part of your design.
Colour will bring your
design to life and will help
create the mood and
feeling you are looking
for.
Scale
Scale is the relationship
of your plants within your
design and your design
with the rest of your
property.
Your design should
consider the size of your
house and any existing
landscaping.
Form
Form is the shape of the
plants in your design.
• Tall plants create a
vertical look and draw the
eyes upward.
• Low spreading plants
draw the eye to the
horizon.
• Individual plants break
up a repeating pattern.
Unity
Unity is the element that
manages consistency and
repetition in your design.
Unity can be achieved by
consistently using plants
with similar colour, scale,
form, texture and
balance. Unity allows all
your plant designs to fit
together in your overall
design.

ELEMENTS OF LANDSCAPING:
texture
Texture is the touch or
visual surface of the
plants and hardscape in
your design.
The plants in your design
can be fine or course.
Texture can be seen in
the plant’s leaves,
flowers, and bark.
Texture is how you add
variety to your design.
Balance
Balance is the element
that controls the first
four design principles of
colour, scale, form and
texture.
Think of Balance as
weight. When you design
your landscape you have
to ensure your design is
properly weighted.
Symmetrical View
Asymmetrical view
Simplicity
While it is useful to know
the 7 Design principles,
we do not want you to get
overwhelmed.
Use the Simplicity
Element of Landscape
Design to guide you as you
create your design.

such as soil, plants, flower and color
Scheme.
• It can be easily removable.
• It include, flowers, plants, shrubs, trees,
flower beds,and duties like weed/
nuisance management, grading, planting, mowing,
trimming, aerating, spraying, and digging for
everything from plants and shrubs , to flower
beds. Wheel barrows and manual tools like
rakes, shovels, picks, and gas power tools are
commonly used.

HARD SCAPE:
• Hardscape refers to the heavier
elements in landscape design,
such as stones, rocks, patios
and driveways.
• It cannot be easily removable.
• It include paved areas,
driveways, retaining walls,
sleeper walls, stairs,
walkways, and any other
landscaping made up of hard
wearing materials such as wood,

FEATURES OF LANDSCAPING:

To build a back yard
landscape that matches
your dream garden, you
can add rock features in
many different places.
Some prefer rocks as
borders for garden beds,
while other people like
one large boulder as a
focal point, along with
smaller ones scattered
around.
planted in the right
places to take advantage
of sunshine and shade.
Plants have a wide range
of care instructions and
requirements, so you can
find some that fit your
lifestyle and the other
considerations of
landscaping Muskoka
gardens.
Adds a whimsical, elegant,
or natural touch,
depending on the type of
walkway you choose and
its position. If you have
lawn space you're not
using because you can't
or don't want to walk on
the grass, a walkway is
the perfect solution.
Turf installation Water bodies Rock installation New plants Interlocking stone
walkways
Nothing can drag an
outside area down faster
than dead or sparse
grass. Fresh sod will make
your yard look appealing,
and once you're allowed
to walk on it, you'll find it
to be a great place to sit
and read, talk to friends,
or play with your kids.
Ponds provide pristine
spots to relax.
Waterfalls are another
popular type of water
feature that will provide
a constant soothing sound
of running water.

The quadrilateral garden is divided by walkways or flowing water into four smaller parts. They are found
in countries throughout Western Asia and South Asia, including Iran and India.
This highly structured geometrical scheme, called the char bagh, became a powerful method for the
organization and domestication of the landscape.
