This document discusses how to get started with backcountry skiing at Lake Tahoe. It features presentations from Andy Rathbun of the San Francisco Backcountry Skiers group, David Reichel of the Sierra Avalanche Center, and Emily Hargraves of Backcountry Babes. They discuss topics like avalanche safety education, available resources, and how to find backcountry skiing partners. The Sierra Avalanche Center provides avalanche forecasts and safety training. Backcountry skiing involves climbing uphill and skiing in uncontrolled areas, requiring awareness of avalanche hazards.
