The Caterbury Tales, Carmina Burana and The Book of Taliesin
Historical Events of the Middle Ages The Middle Ages is the period in European history from the
collapse of the Roman empire in the fifth century to the period of the Renaissance in the fifteenth
century. The medieval life may, at first, appear to be bleak, harsh, and dreary. But in actuality, it
was a time of Kings, immense battles, disease and religious influence. From the devastation of the
Bubonic Plague, briefly alluded to in Geoffrey Chaucers Canterbury Tales, to the legendary king
and war hero Arthur of Camelot. The Christian Church was the single most influential institution in
society, with the pope taking on a role as the leader of European Christendom and education and
intellectual life mostly happening through religious institutions. Through the analysis of
compositions written during the Middle Ages, it is observable that significant events influenced the
pages of these notable works such as Canterbury Tales, Carmina Burana, and The Book of
Taliesin. The Canterbury Tales is the most famous and critically acclaimed work of Geoffrey
Chaucer, a late fourteenth century English poet. Chaucer was born in London in the early 1340s,
in a period of history referred to as the late Middle Ages. Chaucer s father became immensely
wealthy when he inherited the fortune of relatives who had died in the Bubonic Plague of 1349.
The Bubonic Plague, or Black Death, which tormented England during Chaucer s childhood and
remained extensive universally afterward, wiped out an

Overeater Anonymous Meeting Analysis
Overeater Anonymous (OA) is a support group for individuals who have problems related to food
such as compulsive overeater, binge eating disorder, bulimics and anorexics. The meeting was
located at the Church of Saint Mary the Virgin at 133 West 46th Street, NYC on Friday at 6pm.
The meetings are open to anyone who wants to obtain more information about the OA support
group and/or ways to deal with overeating. The meeting was more lecture based as it attempts to
teach the individuals ways to deal with their compulsive disorder. The OA meeting is a non profit
support group collecting any contributions that that the group can make to fund its meetings.
Furthermore, the main focal of the meeting was based on the twelve steps, which are a series of
steps to overcome the problem and is often associated with Alcoholic Anonymous. The purpose of
this meeting was focus on Resentment, the 4th step of the twelve steps. In this step, we are analysis
our life and summarizing the thought, events, emotions and action that cause resentment. We must
analysis ones weakness, which might make it uncomfortable and little hard to complete. This
allows ones to view ones behavior and figure out ways to change the behavior that is affecting one

Temptation Is An Unavoidable Part Of Life
Temptation is an unavoidable part of life that has been around since the creation of the world
and man. After the creation of man, God placed him in the Garden of Eden, and gave him
dominion over the Garden and everything in it. The only command given to man, by God, was
to not eat from one particular tree or he would die. In an act of rebellion against God, Satan
approached Eve and persuaded her to eat from the tree that God forbade them from eating. This
persuasion included lying to Eve about dying and that they would be like God (Genesis 3:4 5,
NIV). On top of the lies, the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing
to the eye (Genesis 3:6, NIV). Satan placed Eve in a situation where she gave in to her desires,
lust for the fruit, envy and greed to be like God, these are the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes,
and the pride of life. Just because Satan tempted Eve does not mean that she sinned, temptation is
not to be equated with sin(Towns, The Essential Element of Sin, 2002). Eve acted on her desires
and ate the forbidden fruit. She in turn, led Adam to eat from the tree. This act of defiance, by
Adam and Eve, against God resulting from the temptation and deception, by Satan, led to the
original sinand to the fall of man. The fall of man resulted in the spiritual separation of man from
God. Temptation led to sin that then led to the fall of man and resulted in a separation from God
that comes to an end with spiritual and physical

Does The Internet Foster Isola Essay example
One of the most talked, known and controversial issues today is the Internet. Internet is a large
network made up of a number of smaller networks. Almost every computer in an educational
facility and in home and small office use is connected to some type of a network. People spent a lot
of time on the Internet, which may make them seem isolated. However, the Internet does not foster
isolation, because it may be used for many different things like communication, education, problem
solving and etc.
The concept for the Internet was to make a link in to a new world, a world that has many different
opportunities within its self. To gives the people options to go to China, Italy, and Egypt without
spending a lot of money on the trip. To open... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Internet provides just that. This may seem like isolation because no physical contact is present,
and some or all of the things that are said might not be true. This is a misconception. People that
are talking face to face with one another might be lying or might not be; the same is said for the
Internet conversations. People whose physical handicaps make it difficult to form new friendships
find that virtual communities treat them as they always wanted to be treated (Rheingold 206).
Equality and understanding is the key, and the virtual community provides that and much more.
Advice is also one of the keys for equality and understanding. As we all know advice in today s
world is not free, and most of the time you need to make an appointment to get that expansive
help. The internet provides advice that is free and at the same time on the spot. In Urbana,
Illinois, the Federal Department of Education has set up a network for parents, teachers,
community workers, and etc. that have questions concerning children, financial assistance,
educational assistance, and etc (Thomas). The Internet is not only for fun and games, but it is
also for problem solving of all types. This is not the only site of this sort; Howard Reingold
logged onto the Well, when he needed an answer in a matter of seconds. What amazed him when
he logged on wasn t just the speed with which we obtained precisely the information we needed...it

The Society of New France
The 16th century is often referred to as The Rise of The West by modern day historians due to the
colonization and Imperial expansion of the Western world by European powers. Expeditions
appointed by European monarchs to discover routes to the abundant resources in China and the
Indies brought some of the first European explorers to the shores of present day Canada. French
explorer Jacques Cartierwas delegated the task of finding a western passage to the East and when
he crossed the Atlantic and landed on the shores of present day Newfoundland in 1534 he thought
he had found Asia. When Cartier inserted a cross in the soil in the GaspГ© Peninsula declaring it
for France he unknownly fabricated the first colony of New France. Cartier, escorted by several
ships searched the Eastern coast of North America for precious goods to transport back to King
François I of France to solidify backing for future expeditions. Between 1534 and 1541 Cartier
made three voyages to North America each time bringing captives and furs back to France in an
attempt to illustrate the wealth of these new found lands. After failed attempts to secure a
permanent settlement near Stadacona (present day Quebec City) and further failed attempts to
colonize lands further south the French turned the attention to their own lands where a religious
civil war was waging. It was not until over sixty years later that the French returned to North
America with a new approach in mind.

Trout Fish
Heavy seasonal rain in rural areas has led to an increase of nutrient loads, from the topsoil into the
waterways. This can result in high concentrations of certain chemicals modifying aquatic plants,
quality of water affecting the health of trout fish. There are many probable causes resulting to the
death of trout fish, which could either be due to the fertiliser or the pH of the stormwater. The main
chemicals found in most fertilizer are nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, known collectively as
NPK. They are the primary nutrients found in commercial fertiliser, each playing a key role in
helping the nutrition of the plant. However, the surrounding farms used a fertiliser rich in
ammonium, sulphate and phosphate. Due to the wide range of possible

Analysis Of Y Tu Mama Tambien
The dominant feature that the films share is the use of narration to guide the viewer through
each plot. They are the same in how they are used to describe settings and some situations. In
Amelie, this manifests at one point as the narrator describing the activities of the local nuns on a
warm and humid day. In Y Tu Mama Tambien, there are many examples of the narrator
describing the political and economic climates that Mexicans exist in and must deal with. The
use of narration is different in several ways as well. In Amelie, the narration is very descriptive,
as the narrator s description of each of the characters and their likes and dislikes are how we are
introduced to each of them for the first time. We learn about Amelie and her... Show more content

Raymond Dufayel, a painter known by others as The Glass Man for his brittle bones, plays the
role of a sage who guides Amelie in her pursuit of love. Another character who plays only one role
is Mr. Collignon, the mean grocer who verbally abuses his mentally disabled employee Lucien.
Unlike the characters of Amelie, those in Y Tu Mama Tambien are realistic and complex, so much
so that the film can be considered to be a character study. A character that is especially complex is
Luisa. From the very beginning she had been hiding her true feelings and intentions from the boys,
both in regard to how she had plans to sleep with them and in how she hides her sadness over her
husband s infidelity and, as the viewer finds out at the end of the film, the cancer that will kill her
very soon. Of course, Julio and Tenoch are also very complex, and they mature together through the
adventure with Luisa. They start out being boastful about their sexual exploits while rather sexually
inexperienced, and, through both conversation in the car rides and sexual encounters with Luisa,
begin to learn more about sex, themselves, and each other. Unfortunately, while they allowed for
personal development, the experiences the two went through together ended up destroying their
relationship.
The cultures of each movie s origin play a role in shaping certain aspects of the films. Pieces of

Mild Traumatic Brain Injury Research Paper
Concussion, also known as minor head trauma or mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) is the most
common type of traumatic brain injury. It is typically defined as a head injury with a temporary
loss of brain function. Symptoms include a variety of physical, cognitive, and emotional symptoms,
which may not be recognized if subtle. A variety of signs accompany concussionincluding headache,
feeling in a fog, and emotional changeability. In general, the signs can be categorized into physical
signs (such as loss of consciousness or amnesia), behavioral changes (such as irritability), cognitive
impairment (such as slowed reaction times), and sleep disturbances.[1] Fewer than 10% of sports
related concussions among children are associated with loss of consciousness.[2]
Common causes include sports injuries, bicycle accidents, car accidents, and falls, the latter two
being the most frequent causes among adults.[3] In addition to a blow to the head, concussion
may be caused by acceleration forces without a direct impact, and on the battlefield, MTBI is a
potential consequence of nearby explosions.[4] It is not clear exactly what damage is done and
how the symptoms are caused, but stretching of axons and changes in ion ... Show more content on

Treatment involves monitoring as well as physical and cognitive rest (reduction of such activities as

weeks, though they may persist or complications may occur.[9]
The rate at which concussion occurs is not accurately known, but is estimated to be more than 6
per 1,000 people.[10] Those who have had one concussion seem more susceptible to another,
especially if the new injury occurs before symptoms from the previous concussion have
completely resolved.[11] There is also a negative progressive process in which smaller impacts
cause the same symptom severity.[1] Repeated concussions may increase the risk in later life for

Innocence Of Death In Macbeth
Macbeth by Shakespeare is a play about envy, greed, impatience, revenge and copious amounts of
death. Most of the death in the play was completely unjust and unnecessary. The play isn t really a
plea for peace and harmony, but more of a lesson that greed and impatience will be your ultimate
demise. Although honorable and dishonorable death is not plainly distinguished and stated, it is
very obvious. For example, when Macbethjust had to speed up the process of being crowned king,
he decided killing an innocent person was the right way to go. Macbeth s first death includes our
main character, Macbeth, and the king of Scotland. After the first prediction by the three
mythological witches (who also seem to be the source for all of the insanity), Fate, comes true
and he is Thane of Cawdor, Macbeth goes mad and decides that murdering the king will speed up
the process. He would have become king with or without the blood on his hands; he was just too
impatient and couldn t take the taunting and teasing from his wife. When the deed was done,
Macbeth stated This is a sorry... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Nursing Career Research Paper
Nursing is considered to be one of the most respected professions today. The theory of nursing has
existed for centuries, as family members cared for sick loved ones. However, it was not until the
19th century that nursing as a profession began to develop. It was during this time that Florence
Nightingale made her significant contributions to nursing. Among other things, Nightingale helped
society recognize nursing as a respectable occupation, established modern nursing education, and
helped institute standards of nursing care (Taylor 7). Nursing is a very broad discipline, and nurses
serve many different roles caregiver, teacher, advocate, communicator, counselor, and many more.

I enjoy both the restoring health and preventing illness aspects of nursing. In the realm of
restoring health, I enjoy caring for patients who are sick, as well as their families, who are also
going through a trying time. I want to show them that I care and do what I can to help them
recover. I also love teaching and greatly enjoy the patient education side of nursing. A very large
part of nursing, which many people do not realize, is patient education. Patients, and their families
if needed, should understand not only the what but also the why behind their illness, medications,
and treatments. If they understand why certain things are happening to them, medications are being
prescribed, and treatments are being initiated, they will feel less anxious and alone and will be
more likely to comply with their treatment regimen. Hopefully, this will ultimately speed their

Persuasive Essay On Legalizing Abortion
Abortion: the termination of a pregnancy after, accompanied by, resulting in, or closely followed by
the death of the embryo or fetus. Throughout our lives we are constantly taking other people s
opinions into consideration. We care more about what people think of us, rather than how we think
of ourselves. In reality, the only opinion that matters is your own. Abortionhas been legal since
1973. People have been arguing whether it should be legal or illegal ever since. Abortion should
stay legalized for various reasons. A woman has rights, and these rights include what she gets to
do with her body. The U.S. Supreme Court decided in favor of abortion rights during the case of
Roe v. Wade on January 22, 1973. They stated that This right of privacy... is broad enough to
encompass a woman s decision whether or not to terminate her pregnancy. People argue that a baby
is capable of feeling pain when it is killed. This is completely false. A developing fetuss brain starts
to structure between the 7th and 8th months of gestation and during this time they start to perceive
pain. This is far past the time when an abortion is carried out. So technically, the baby can t feel

I Have Collected Artifacts For The Association For Middle...
Throughout this fall semester, as a Preservice Middle Level Educator, I have been observing and
engaging in Ms. Mahdi s 7th grade Science class. It is at this placement that I have collected
artifacts for a portfolio to illustrate a competency and achievement related to the Association for
Middle Level Educationstandards. In this portfolio summary you will find various artifacts that help
demonstrate these AMLE standards. The AMLE standards as a whole, cover academic growth and
set an expectation for middle school teachers to be mindful that their middle school students are
continuously experiencing social and cognitive changes that should be addressed thoughtfully, just
as much as their academic needs.
The first artifact I included was a sample of student work where the students were asked to fill out
a survey to verify and understand their learning styles. This artifact was introduced with some
history and with an emphasis on how important it is for students to know and understand their own
learning styles. After a discussion on the importance of knowing thyself the students graded and
scored their learning style preferences. Next followed a discussion on the various types of learning
styles and ways students could incorporate their preferred learning styles when doing homework,
classwork, and studying for assessments. This artifact is a good example of how Standard 4:
Element b., Middle Level Instructional Strategies, can be applied directly to student assessments.

Essay on Graham Greene s The Power and the Glory
Graham Greene s The Power and the Glory
In Graham Greene s The Power and the Glory, setting is essential in understanding the spiritual
conquest of the main character. The story takes place in post revolution Mexico of the nineteen
thirties, where Catholicism has been banned. The government has shut down all of the churches
and established anti Catholic laws, jealous of the rising power of the church, and nervous of the
corrupt ways in which the church has been dealing with sin. The main character, a nameless

Everybody the priest encounters will not harbour him because of fear of the law. These barren
lands symbolize the priest s feeling of worthlesness and rejection from God, and the feeling of
inevitable sin and the impossibility of martyrdom. I don t know how to repent. That was true: he
had lost the faculty. He couldn t say to himself that he wished his sin had never existed, because
the sin seemed to him now so unimportant and he loved the fruit of it... our sins have so much
beauty. (p. 128,130) The priest continues to create damage as several innocent members of passing
communities are executed by the police for not being able to provide adequate information on the
priest s course of action. The priest s developing knowledge of the damage he is creating adds guilt
to his anxiety, and he continues to question God about the meaning behind his situation.
It infuriated him to think that there were still people in the state
who believed in a loving and merciful God. There are mystics
who are said to have experienced God directly. He was a mystic,

A Brief Note On Pharmacology And The Nursing Process
Digoxin

Pharmacology and the Nursing Process

Sandra Laird
April 1, 2015 OVERVIEW OF DIGOXIN
Origin
Digoxin is a drug gotten from the leaves of a digitalis plant ( Digitalis, 2015, para. 1). We
commonly refer to this plant as foxglove but we also use its botanical name, which is Digitalis
purpurea when discussing it ( Digitalis, 2015, para. 2). Foxglove is a popular flower that can be
found growing along the roadsides and in meadows or waterlogged areas usually in the western
region of the United States ( Digitalis, 2015, para. 2). Although this plant can now be found in
America, European immigrants originally brought Foxglove into the United States centuries ago (
Digitalis, 2015, para. 2). William Withering first described the therapeutic effect of this plant in
1785 ( Digitalis, 2015, para. 4).
Drug Class
Digoxin is grouped under a class of drugs known as cardiac glycosides (Lilley, Collins, Snyder,
2014, p. 387). Cardiac Glycosides are a class of drugs known as cardiac drugs (Lilley, Collins,
Snyder, 2014, p. 387). They are the oldest group of cardiac drugs that are recognized to have
beneficial effects on people with failing heart and help in controlling the heart s ventricular rate
(Lilley, Collins, Snyder, 2014, p. 387). These drugs help make the heart beat stronger and with a
more regular rhythm. In previous years, cardiac glycosides (digoxin) were used as the first line
drugs for heart

Annotated Feedback
To conclude, the idea of teaching writing with CALL definitely offers much in the way of learning
value. Particularly the concept of giving feedback to a learner in a variety of approaches gives
more potential for learning than previously ever predicted. The many different forms of feedback
discussed in this assignment isolate different learningmethods and responses from a student. There
are two studies that look specifically into how effective online learning environments are and both
indicated that automated feedback adds significance to student writing, although students do not
appear to enjoy the process as much as being in a classroom. These studies identify two important
points, that learning how to write should be engaging and that other real people tend to make it
more so. Of these two studies, one was a huge data sample and one was... Show more content on

It was found that embedded audio feedback is not as preferred by the students as written
feedback, even though it offered much more detail to the specific feedback being given. This was
probably to do with the technology but if students were asynchronously checking their writing, it
needs to be simple and attractive for them to enjoy doing it. With written feedback, the information
is present in front of the student to quickly adapt their writing. In regards to synchronous and
asynchronous feedback from a teacher, synchronous was preferred whilst writing, although
asynchronous does have its place. Students struggled to determine the learning value if they were
not correcting their work as they wrote and returning to fix it later made the work more tiresome.
Additionally, peer feedback was less preferred than teacher feedback in online settings. This is
probably because peer feedback is not always trustworthy and often peers do not know how to
correct what needs

How Did England Lose Colonial America
In the early American days, America was mostly controlled by English and French settlers. They
fought for land near the fertile Ohio River Valley, both claiming to own the land. The strive to
fully own this land led to the French and Indian war in 1754. The French fought with the Native
Americans against England and its colonies. In 1763, the war finally ended with the surrender at
Montreal and the Treaty of Paris. England had won the war, but at a certain price. Eventually,
through a chain of events, England lost rebellious America because of this war. After the French

How Do I Know If I Have Gum Disease?
Gum disease starts with bacteria invading the mouth. It can eventually result in tooth loss because
of the receding tissue that surrounds the teeth and loosens the teeth. Serious gum disease is
preceded by gingivitis, which can be identified by inflamed and bleeding gums. It is important to
know that gingivitis can be reversed and can heal completely by keeping up with brushing and
flossing.
The signs of gum disease are:
Bleeding gums, especially when they are irritated by brushing.
Swollen and tender gums.
Bad breath.
A bad taste in your mouth.
Receding gums.
Deep pockets forming between teeth and gums.
Loose teeth.

Essay about Intoductory Awareness of Sensory Loss
Unit 4222 258 Introductory awareness of sensory loss (SS MU2.1)
Outcome 1
When people have any sensory loss, then their mobility and communication are greatly affected.
This can lead to increased loneliness and even isolation in some cases.
People with any kind of sensory loss can have difficulties in finding employment. Even though the
Equality Act and the Disability Discrimination Act mean that employers cannot discriminate, it is
hard to convince an employer that a sensory loss does not necessarily mean that someone is
unable to do a job. There are positives that can have an impact on individuals suffering from
sensory loss. Your other senses can become more sensitive and perform better, for example your
sense of smell or feeling ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Sensory loss can often be a hidden disability which can frequently lead to isolation and frustration at
not being able to communicate efficiently with other people. With hearing loss, day to day
activities such as hearing a doorbell, using the telephone, watching television or taking part in

Comparison Between the Articles of Confederation and the...
Towards the end of the Revolutionary War, the people felt they needed a document to secure their
independence from Britain. This document was the Articles of Confederation. Shortly after that, a
new document was formed to what we know as the Constitution of the United States. These
documents were similar but more different at the same time with each other, and each granted
specific powers to the national government. By throwing off the British monarchy it left the states
without a central government. The states needed a new government and fast, which paved way for
the first constitution, the Articles of Confederation. The Articles of Confederation was started on

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Liposomes
Liposomes
Liposomes are artificial vesicles with lipid bilayer which are made of phospholipids and

Rhetorical Devices Used In The Book Thief
In Marcus Zusak s The Book Thief, Zusak uses many rhetorical devices, but perhaps the most
prevalent is the colors. They are introduced in the prologue and remain apparent throughout the
entirety of the novel. Death says he only uses them to district himself from his taxing job and to
define each time he saw the book thief, but the reader can go beyond that and use them to
understand the mood and atmosphere of each scene. The first color mentioned is white. Death
associates white with Liesel because of the fallen snow when he first sees her at her brother s

Looks and appearance have always dominated Hollywood culture and the actors and actresses that
play roles in movies; also the popularity contest among teens in high school. Bulimia and anorexia
plague women and men throughout the United States. Today s society is dominated by the
obsession of appearances. But how far has this fixation gone? Has this Hollywood mentality taken

it is illegal to discriminate based on weight) from Cassandra Smith an employee at Hooters. Smith,

Intelligence Test and Gifted Requirements
The Gifted program exists to provide more academic opportunities for those who qualify as gifted.
Gifted means performing or demonstrating the potential for performing at significantly higher
levels of accomplishment in one or more academic fields due to intellectual ability, when compared
to others of similar age, experience, and environment (Quoted in Gifted ). In order to make it into
the program the student must show higher intellectual ability than the average student at his or her

She states, In my 24 years as a gifted facilitator, there have been a handful, (3 5) students whose IQ
tests did not accurately reflect their intelligence. She also informed that if a student is close to
making the cut, they are given a second test in a year or two (Sebelius 1). Intelligence tests should
not remain the primary qualification to gain admittance in the gifted program because it allows
minorities and the economically disadvantaged to remain underrepresented in the program. The
minorities and the economically disadvantaged tend to score lower than the average gifted student;
as a result, they fail to gain admittance when they have actually proven qualified. The tests also
effect how they are feeling (sebuleus). If under privileged students feel negatively about their
situation it may affect the score of their test. Under their circumstances, they are not presented with
the same opportunities as other gifted students due to financial or environmental problems. These
problems can alter their psychological state ultimately undermining their score. However, they do
better on the test overall, as opposed to just the IQ segment of the test, but the IQ test still remains
more heavily weighted than other means of testing, when those other means of testing play a more
important role than given credit

Holocaust Differences In The Holocaust
The Holocaust was one of the many tragic events that happened throughout history and because of
it, most of the Jewish population was left to suffer and die daily. The Nazi regime had brought
radical and daunting social, economic, and communal change to the Jewish community. When
reading what Anne Frank said in her diary, there was a variety of thoughts that were similar and
different to what Jewshad to experience in daily life since she was in hiding. However, the events
going on around Anne had many more similarities to other Jews rather than differences. What Anne
had described throughout her times at the Annex truly shows the pain and sufferingthat Jews went
through physically and emotionally.
Within the time period of the Holocaust, Jews would have to face many hardships like death, and
being captured and led to a concentration camp. Daily, the Nazis traced each hidden Jew and
hunted down each fugitive as well as constantly murdering them. Victims of the Holocaust suffered
more than anyone should ever be put to, putting daily life in an unlivable state. (Boas 176).
Although Anne was in hiding and did not have to experience the pain of actually being captured,
she lived in the Secret Annex with a fear of being captured everyday. This fear was very similar to
what Jews constantly felt. Not to mention the Ghettos, which had revolting living conditions (The
Ghettos). Day to day life was changed dramatically during these harsh times, and people had to

Differences Of The North And South During The 1800s
During the 1800s, life in America was very different depending on where, on the map, people were
located, the North or the South. The North and the South were different in three ways,
economically, politically, and, lastly, socially. Even through their differences, there were also a few
simularites. To begin, the Northand South were different economically mainly because one, the
North, was an Industrial economy, and the other, the South, was an Agricultural economy. Meaning,
in the North, they mainly made their money through northern factories and inventions. Middle class

In the North, the owners of factories tended to be more wealthy. The more wealthier the person is,

that if they were rich they must be smart or important, making the rich perfect canidates to be

immigrants and free African Americans had little to no political power, meaning, their say was of

hold the most political power. Slave owners lived in beautiful large homes and acted as though they
were wealthy Europeans, attracting the attention of many. People in the South looked up to the
wealthy, similar to the North. Their elegant homes and beautiful life threw these plantation owners
right to the top of the political power. In the South, whites with no slaves had some political power

Abolish The Death Penalty Should Not Be Abolished
Wiggins Amanda
Professor Laudani
Composition 1
09 July 2015
Abolish the Death Penalty Since the state has no power to give life, it should not exercise its
power to take a life either. After all, the judicial system is not a fool proof system. The risk of
putting an innocent human being to death by capital punishment, cannot be ruled out. The only
purpose it serves is retribution or revenge. Therefore, the death penalty must be abolished. The
death penalty is prone to errors that may have led to the execution of wrongfully convicted people.
There have been 330 post conviction DNA exonerations here in the U.S (Innocence Project).
The Supreme Court should bring the United States in line with the rest of the world and hold that
death is a cruel and unusual punishment prohibited by the Eighth Amendment. The death penalty
process consumes tremendous amounts of money and resources and fails to deter murders.
The average cost to put someone to death is 1.1 million dollars that Americans are paying for
(Huddar, Buzzle). That money can be used for a lot more things, such as, helping homeless
veterans, who served our country, or children who live in poverty right here in America. It is used
in an often arbitrary and racist manner. In a study commissioned by the governor of Maryland,
defendants who kill white victims were more likely to be sentenced to death than those who killed
a black (McElwee, Huffington Post) Not only does the death penalty

This new stricter policy is what would bring the MLB out of the steroid era . When most people

The Flaws In The Movie Kingdom Of Heaven
The movie Kingdom of Heaven is a very good movie. It is biased off of the crusades more

flaws, this one is no different. The amount of flaws I am able to choose from is tremendous. I

have to do with Balian himself. Next will be the weapons them self s and how they fire/are used
and outcomes of them. Last I will state many of the other false tings in the movie and back up
why they are false. In the movie there are many incorrect elements about Balian and surrounding
Balian. One of the larger issues I can see is that he is not from France. As Helena P. Schrader

of Balian burying his dead wife. Several men ride by on horses and one says She was a suicide cut

I can do all of those things plus create documents, etc from my phone which is just a smartphone.
In conclusion, It is better not only for yourself but for your clients and your business if you
would just refrain from sending personal emails and receiving them from the business computer.

Approaching Nathaniel Hawthorne Insight
Nathaniel Hawthorne wrote one of the most studied short story in literature, Young Goodman
Brown . This short story is widely use because of the deep meaning and strong internal attachment it
has with the reader. Nathaniel Hawthorne was born in Salem, Massachusetts his family had been
early settlers, one of his great grandfather was a judge during the Salem witch trials and had twenty
five women killed. Hearing his great grandfather talk about this subject made Hawthorne both
obsessed and a little ashamed for what his family has done during the Salem witch trials. Hawthorne
put those feelings into his stories which in reality explore what the events that happened in the
puritans life style. As stated before Nathaniel Hawthornewas born in Salem, Massachusetts1804,
and his family were original settlers to Salem since colonial times. Hawthorne s father died when
he was four, (Approaching literature 1388) Hawthorne then was raised by his mother until his gift
was discovered. Later his relatives recognized Hawthorne s literature talent and financed his
education at Bowdoin College. At Bowdoin College Hawthorne met Henry Wadswort, who would
go to be a famous poet, and Franklin Pierce, who would later on be the President of the United
States. After graduating, Hawthorne lived at home writing short tales and a novel, which he self
published in 1828... (Approaching literature 1388). When Hawthorne wrote the story Young

What Is The Purpose Of The Book Of Genesis
That purchase of this cave has a clear symbolic meaning in Genesis, because it prefigures the
taking of possession by the Israelites of a territory where the patriarchs had once lived as
foreigners. But, what is the reason of book of Genesis? And how is the structure of such a book
of revelations? One can find that the entire book revolves around the reason for the blessing and
the curse. The Lord chose the nation through which he would bless all the nations. The promised
blessing would give the nation of Israel the patriarchs and their land. However, the curse would
drive away, deprive, and disinherit Israel from the patriarchs and their land. On one hand, the verb
to bless means to enrich and here, God is the source and, as used in Genesis,

Comparing Client Server Architectural Style
Compare Client Server architectural style to 3 Tier architectural style. What are the similarities and
differences ? Use bullet points or a short paragraph.
Client Server architectural style to 3 Tier architectural style:
The client server model refers to the Network Architecture where one or more computers are
connected a server.Client server architecture divides the system into two applications, In this model
client sends request to the server. Server implementation is transparent but can be centralized or
distributed, single threaded or multi threaded single interface point with physically distributed
implementation Dynamic, transparent selection from among multiple interface points. The purpose
of networks is to allow communication ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The BL is running on a separate server, called the business logictier, middle tier, or service tier.
Finally the DB is running on its own database server. Differences: Client Server: cost (servers and
software can be expensive) server operating systems (a server and software work together; server
software is expensive; servers also add to the costs) implementation (sharing resources; network
cabling; servers kept in a secure room; central file management, central security administration; user
management and permissions, backup management) security and safety techniques to protect the
network from virus attacks, new products, and the use of new technologies (i.e., wireless
connections).
Client server networks work best for larger setups, such as a full scale office or school network
especially if the networks are likely to grow in size.
3 Tier Architecture: A 3 Tier usually puts something between the presentation and data store tire
such as a business logic tier.
3 Tier has a Middle part of stage to communicate with client to server, Where as in 2 Tier client
directly get communication to server. you can put this into 3 tiers depending on how much amount
of money you have for hardware and how amount load you expect.
3 Tier is straight means in that demand stream on Client Middle Layer Database server and
Response.
3 Tier is similar to a MVC But having contrast sorts in topologies.

The New University Essay
The issue of the New University that I am analyzing was published on September 17, 2001. My
argument is that UCI consists of a magnanimous community in times of peril, hardship, and
persecution. The abounding professional aid available on campus provides a healthy recovery in
times of difficulty. Whether students decide to find assistance from doctors, professors,
counselors, friends and family, UCI has a mass variety of people to talk to in order for guidance.
The tragedy of the twin tower bombings sparked a new situation for people around the country.
Since experiencing such a large attack on home soil for the first time, many students had no plan
of action, the best response as said by Dr. James Cones is, people [should] get... Show more content

Those ideals are found right here at UCI. Hatred is everywhere. It is natural to start blaming and
pointing fingers to specific groups of people. The Muslim community was no exception and was
awaken to such bias. However, 9/11 was not the first time such tensions occurred. In October of
year 2000, there was a heated debate amongst Jewish, Israeli, Palestinian and Muslim students
during a peaceful protest against the discord in the Middle East (Santos 18) on campus. Many were
reminded of this protest as soon as the catastrophe in New York happened. Muslims tried to explain
that those who caused the event were not representing the entire, large Muslim community in the
world. Those Muslims are extremists, not UCI students. In order to overturn the hate, the
supportive community at UCI reminded those short fused people the definition of being an
American. Not only that, UCI created workshops for high schools to implement a way to
discourage any types of racism or acrimonious actions meant to be destructive toward all Muslims.
The Declaration of Independence states our Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness guaranteeing
everyone s unalienable rights which are protected by the government such as our basic freedoms in
the first amendment. All over the UCI campus and New U article, patriotic images were placed.
The numerous large American flags allowed students to be reminded of such American ideals and

  • 2. The Caterbury Tales, Carmina Burana and The Book of Taliesin Historical Events of the Middle Ages The Middle Ages is the period in European history from the collapse of the Roman empire in the fifth century to the period of the Renaissance in the fifteenth century. The medieval life may, at first, appear to be bleak, harsh, and dreary. But in actuality, it was a time of Kings, immense battles, disease and religious influence. From the devastation of the Bubonic Plague, briefly alluded to in Geoffrey Chaucers Canterbury Tales, to the legendary king and war hero Arthur of Camelot. The Christian Church was the single most influential institution in society, with the pope taking on a role as the leader of European Christendom and education and intellectual life mostly happening through religious institutions. Through the analysis of compositions written during the Middle Ages, it is observable that significant events influenced the pages of these notable works such as Canterbury Tales, Carmina Burana, and The Book of Taliesin. The Canterbury Tales is the most famous and critically acclaimed work of Geoffrey Chaucer, a late fourteenth century English poet. Chaucer was born in London in the early 1340s, in a period of history referred to as the late Middle Ages. Chaucer s father became immensely wealthy when he inherited the fortune of relatives who had died in the Bubonic Plague of 1349. • 4. Temptation Is An Unavoidable Part Of Life Temptation is an unavoidable part of life that has been around since the creation of the world and man. After the creation of man, God placed him in the Garden of Eden, and gave him dominion over the Garden and everything in it. The only command given to man, by God, was to not eat from one particular tree or he would die. In an act of rebellion against God, Satan approached Eve and persuaded her to eat from the tree that God forbade them from eating. This persuasion included lying to Eve about dying and that they would be like God (Genesis 3:4 5, NIV). On top of the lies, the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye (Genesis 3:6, NIV). Satan placed Eve in a situation where she gave in to her desires, lust for the fruit, envy and greed to be like God, these are the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life. Just because Satan tempted Eve does not mean that she sinned, temptation is not to be equated with sin(Towns, The Essential Element of Sin, 2002). Eve acted on her desires and ate the forbidden fruit. She in turn, led Adam to eat from the tree. This act of defiance, by Adam and Eve, against God resulting from the temptation and deception, by Satan, led to the original sinand to the fall of man. The fall of man resulted in the spiritual separation of man from God. Temptation led to sin that then led to the fall of man and resulted in a separation from God that comes to an end with spiritual and physical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Almost every computer in an educational facility and in home and small office use is connected to some type of a network. People spent a lot of time on the Internet, which may make them seem isolated. However, the Internet does not foster isolation, because it may be used for many different things like communication, education, problem solving and etc. The concept for the Internet was to make a link in to a new world, a world that has many different opportunities within its self. This may seem like isolation because no physical contact is present, and some or all of the things that are said might not be true. This is a misconception. People that are talking face to face with one another might be lying or might not be; the same is said for the Internet conversations. People whose physical handicaps make it difficult to form new friendships find that virtual communities treat them as they always wanted to be treated (Rheingold 206). Equality and understanding is the key, and the virtual community provides that and much more. Advice is also one of the keys for equality and understanding. As we all know advice in today s world is not free, and most of the time you need to make an appointment to get that expansive help. The internet provides advice that is free and at the same time on the spot. The Internet is not only for fun and games, but it is also for problem solving of all types. • 6. The Society of New France The 16th century is often referred to as The Rise of The West by modern day historians due to the colonization and Imperial expansion of the Western world by European powers. Expeditions appointed by European monarchs to discover routes to the abundant resources in China and the Indies brought some of the first European explorers to the shores of present day Canada. French explorer Jacques Cartierwas delegated the task of finding a western passage to the East and when he crossed the Atlantic and landed on the shores of present day Newfoundland in 1534 he thought he had found Asia. When Cartier inserted a cross in the soil in the GaspГ© Peninsula declaring it for France he unknownly fabricated the first colony of New France. Cartier, escorted by several ships searched the Eastern coast of North America for precious goods to transport back to King FranГ§ois I of France to solidify backing for future expeditions. Between 1534 and 1541 Cartier made three voyages to North America each time bringing captives and furs back to France in an attempt to illustrate the wealth of these new found lands. After failed attempts to secure a permanent settlement near Stadacona (present day Quebec City) and further failed attempts to colonize lands further south the French turned the attention to their own lands where a religious civil war was waging. They are the same in how they are used to describe settings and some situations. In Amelie, this manifests at one point as the narrator describing the activities of the local nuns on a warm and humid day. In Y Tu Mama Tambien, there are many examples of the narrator describing the political and economic climates that Mexicans exist in and must deal with. The use of narration is different in several ways as well. Raymond Dufayel, a painter known by others as The Glass Man for his brittle bones, plays the role of a sage who guides Amelie in her pursuit of love. Another character who plays only one role is Mr. Collignon, the mean grocer who verbally abuses his mentally disabled employee Lucien. Unlike the characters of Amelie, those in Y Tu Mama Tambien are realistic and complex, so much so that the film can be considered to be a character study. A character that is especially complex is Luisa. From the very beginning she had been hiding her true feelings and intentions from the boys, both in regard to how she had plans to sleep with them and in how she hides her sadness over her husband s infidelity and, as the viewer finds out at the end of the film, the cancer that will kill her very soon. Of course, Julio and Tenoch are also very complex, and they mature together through the adventure with Luisa. They start out being boastful about their sexual exploits while rather sexually inexperienced, and, through both conversation in the car rides and sexual encounters with Luisa, begin to learn more about sex, themselves, and each other. Unfortunately, while they allowed for personal development, the experiences the two went through together ended up destroying their relationship. • 10. Innocence Of Death In Macbeth Macbeth by Shakespeare is a play about envy, greed, impatience, revenge and copious amounts of death. Most of the death in the play was completely unjust and unnecessary. The play isn t really a plea for peace and harmony, but more of a lesson that greed and impatience will be your ultimate demise. Although honorable and dishonorable death is not plainly distinguished and stated, it is very obvious. For example, when Macbethjust had to speed up the process of being crowned king, he decided killing an innocent person was the right way to go. Macbeth s first death includes our main character, Macbeth, and the king of Scotland. After the first prediction by the three mythological witches (who also seem to be the source for all of the insanity), Fate, comes true and he is Thane of Cawdor, Macbeth goes mad and decides that murdering the king will speed up the process. The theory of nursing has existed for centuries, as family members cared for sick loved ones. However, it was not until the 19th century that nursing as a profession began to develop. Among other things, Nightingale helped society recognize nursing as a respectable occupation, established modern nursing education, and helped institute standards of nursing care (Taylor 7). In this portfolio summary you will find various artifacts that help demonstrate these AMLE standards. The AMLE standards as a whole, cover academic growth and set an expectation for middle school teachers to be mindful that their middle school students are continuously experiencing social and cognitive changes that should be addressed thoughtfully, just as much as their academic needs. The first artifact I included was a sample of student work where the students were asked to fill out a survey to verify and understand their learning styles. This artifact was introduced with some history and with an emphasis on how important it is for students to know and understand their own learning styles. After a discussion on the importance of knowing thyself the students graded and scored their learning style preferences. Next followed a discussion on the various types of learning styles and ways students could incorporate their preferred learning styles when doing homework, classwork, and studying for assessments. This artifact is a good example of how Standard 4: Element b., Middle Level Instructional Strategies, can be applied directly to student assessments. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although this plant can now be found in America, European immigrants originally brought Foxglove into the United States centuries ago ( Digitalis, 2015, para. 2). William Withering first described the therapeutic effect of this plant in 1785 ( Digitalis, 2015, para. 4). Drug Class Digoxin is grouped under a class of drugs known as cardiac glycosides (Lilley, Collins, Snyder, 2014, p. 387). She states that discrimination increases as weight gain increases. Puhl reveals that overweight adults are twelve times more likely, obese adults are thirty seven times more likely, and severely obese adults are one hundred times more likely to report employment discrimination compared to normal weight respondents. Despite these countless occurrences of weight discrimination, it is not illegal to discriminate on the basis of weight. Some employees have filed lawsuits, mostly unsuccessful, under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Puhl wishes to make this act extend to those who are discriminated on because of their weight. • 31. Intelligence Test and Gifted Requirements Essay Intelligence Test and Gifted Requirements The Gifted program exists to provide more academic opportunities for those who qualify as gifted. Gifted means performing or demonstrating the potential for performing at significantly higher levels of accomplishment in one or more academic fields due to intellectual ability, when compared to others of similar age, experience, and environment (Quoted in Gifted ). In order to make it into the program the student must show higher intellectual ability than the average student at his or her age, but what determines that factor? The student must take a multidimensional test and score in the 98th percentile. However, the most weighted part of the test remains an average IQ test. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She states, In my 24 years as a gifted facilitator, there have been a handful, (3 5) students whose IQ tests did not accurately reflect their intelligence. She also informed that if a student is close to making the cut, they are given a second test in a year or two (Sebelius 1). Intelligence tests should not remain the primary qualification to gain admittance in the gifted program because it allows minorities and the economically disadvantaged to remain underrepresented in the program. The minorities and the economically disadvantaged tend to score lower than the average gifted student; as a result, they fail to gain admittance when they have actually proven qualified. The tests also effect how they are feeling (sebuleus). If under privileged students feel negatively about their situation it may affect the score of their test. Under their circumstances, they are not presented with the same opportunities as other gifted students due to financial or environmental problems. These problems can alter their psychological state ultimately undermining their score. However, they do better on the test overall, as opposed to just the IQ segment of the test, but the IQ test still remains more heavily weighted than other means of testing, when those other means of testing play a more important role than given credit ... • 32. Holocaust Differences In The Holocaust The Holocaust was one of the many tragic events that happened throughout history and because of it, most of the Jewish population was left to suffer and die daily. The Nazi regime had brought radical and daunting social, economic, and communal change to the Jewish community. When reading what Anne Frank said in her diary, there was a variety of thoughts that were similar and different to what Jewshad to experience in daily life since she was in hiding. However, the events going on around Anne had many more similarities to other Jews rather than differences. What Anne had described throughout her times at the Annex truly shows the pain and sufferingthat Jews went through physically and emotionally. Within the time period of the Holocaust, Jews would have to face many hardships like death, and being captured and led to a concentration camp. Daily, the Nazis traced each hidden Jew and hunted down each fugitive as well as constantly murdering them. Victims of the Holocaust suffered more than anyone should ever be put to, putting daily life in an unlivable state. (Boas 176). Although Anne was in hiding and did not have to experience the pain of actually being captured, she lived in the Secret Annex with a fear of being captured everyday. This fear was very similar to what Jews constantly felt. Not to mention the Ghettos, which had revolting living conditions (The Ghettos). The North and the South were different in three ways, economically, politically, and, lastly, socially. Even through their differences, there were also a few simularites. To begin, the Northand South were different economically mainly because one, the North, was an Industrial economy, and the other, the South, was an Agricultural economy. • 37. Abolish The Death Penalty Should Not Be Abolished Wiggins Amanda Professor Laudani Composition 1 09 July 2015 Abolish the Death Penalty Since the state has no power to give life, it should not exercise its power to take a life either. After all, the judicial system is not a fool proof system. The risk of putting an innocent human being to death by capital punishment, cannot be ruled out. The only purpose it serves is retribution or revenge. Therefore, the death penalty must be abolished. The death penalty is prone to errors that may have led to the execution of wrongfully convicted people. There have been 330 post conviction DNA exonerations here in the U.S (Innocence Project). The Supreme Court should bring the United States in line with the rest of the world and hold that death is a cruel and unusual punishment prohibited by the Eighth Amendment. The death penalty process consumes tremendous amounts of money and resources and fails to deter murders. The average cost to put someone to death is 1.1 million dollars that Americans are paying for (Huddar, Buzzle). That money can be used for a lot more things, such as, helping homeless veterans, who served our country, or children who live in poverty right here in America. It is used in an often arbitrary and racist manner. In a study commissioned by the governor of Maryland, defendants who kill white victims were more likely to be sentenced to death than those who killed a black (McElwee, Huffington Post) Not only does the death penalty ... According to a CNN article on the timeline of the BALCO scandal, in the early 2000 s BALCO came under investigation by federal agents in California, and by the U.S. Anti Doping Agency who received an anonymous tip that an undetectable, designer steroid was being distributed by the founder of BALCO ( BALCO Fast Facts, 2016).
