Kyphosis is an abnormal curvature of the spine that causes an exaggerated outward curve. There are different types of kyphosis. Management depends on the degree of curvature and may include conservative treatments like bracing for mild cases, or surgery for severe cases over 75 degrees. Surgery aims to reduce the deformity and relieve pain or neurological symptoms. Physiotherapy including exercises can help strengthen muscles and improve posture. Bracing is only effective for growing children, not adults. Exercises target stretching the hamstrings and upper back as well as strengthening the upper back and improving posture.
