5. Procedure
o Patient in lying down position
o The medicated ghee is liquefied by placing the container in hot water, filtered & poured into the
eye at the medial canthus, up to the level of the tip of lashes. The eyes should be closed and
opened slowly
o Medicine should be retained for specific time~ 20 minutes inside the boundary
o After retained for specific time inside boundary, the medicine should be drained in to a vessel
through a hole made at the lower lateral part of the boundary
o Avoid direct wind and seeing luminous objects, sky, mirror and sun
6. Putapaka
◦ Topical application of extracts prepared out of plant drugs, animal flesh,
mineral drugs and fats.
◦ This extract is retained over the eyes as in
Tarpana.
◦ Indications same as Tarpana
7. Anjana
◦ Topical application of the
drug in the form of
powder/paste/thick liquid
into the conjuctival fornices
with an applicator(Salaka)
8. Indications
◦ Anjana is indicated when clinical features of doshas have become
manifested and localised in the eye and acute inflammatory signs are
subsided by the application of seka and aschotana
◦ Pterygium, Corneal opacity, Cataract
9. Procedure
o Room should be devoid of wind and dust
o Patient is in sitting position
o Therapist should stand in front of the patient
o Medicine is taken on salaka and placed in right hand
o Eye is opened with left hand
o Medicine is applied below the black portion of eye with Salaka
o After watering subsides, wash the eyes with suitable drug
o Not to be done without sodhana, during indigestion.
10. Aschotana
Instillation of the medicated
solution into the
conjunctival sac when the
eye is completely open and
patient is in lying position.
11. Indications
◦ Indicated as first line of treatment
in all ocular inflammatory
conditions where following
symptoms present
Congestion
Burning pain
Excessive lacrimation
Inflammation
Pricking pain
12. Procedure
◦ It is done when patient in lying position.
◦ 10-12 drops of medicine instilled with the help of wick hanging from container
◦ Instiled at medial canthus of eye from a height of 2 angula ~ 4 cm.
◦ Later clean the eyes with soft cloth
◦ Mild sudation can be given afterwards
◦ Not to be done at night
13. Seka
◦Pouring of thin stream of
medicated solution into
the closed eyes for a
stipulated period.
◦Indicated in acute and
severe affections of the
eye.
14. Procedure
◦ Room should be devoid of excessive wind & heat, but adequately
ventilated with sufficient light.
◦ The therapist should stand behind the head of the patient
◦ Medicine should be poured through a wick as a continuous
stream like flow from a height of 4 Angula~ 8 cm on closed eyes.
19. Procedure
◦ The drug is made into smooth thin paste by adding suitable liquid
◦ Then it is applied over eye lid, avoiding eye lashes .
◦ When it is about to dry , remove it by wiping with wet cloth.
◦ Not to be done at night
