Each year, Mary Meeker unveils her fascinating Internet Trends presentation. And each year, her insights are inestimable and eagerly awaited.
But each year, I have a problem with her slides. As a presentation designer, I find them rough and busy. To the point it makes them hard to understand.
So this year, here’s my humble attempt at redesigning them !

Shifting Trade Rules and the Future for North America’s Auto IndustryBoston Consulting Group
Two major initiatives by the US to overhaul trade rules could have a massive impact on North America’s automotive manufacturing industry. Here’s how companies should prepare.
What Does the Recovery of Demand for Urban Mobility Look Like Post-COVID-19?Boston Consulting Group
Based on a survey of 5,000 residents in china, the EU, and the US, BCG analyzed the likely recovery of demand in urban mobility following the COVID-19
outbreak. Ultimately—until a cure emerges—we expect we expect a major shift away from public transit toward private mobility modes, specifically private cars and bikes. But the magnitude of the shift will differ across the varied type of cities.
Of the different patterns that have emerged in governments’ fight against coronavirus—crush and contain is the most effective. While many countries missed the initial opportunity to crush and contain, it is critical that governments prepare now to make sure they don’t miss the opportunity again.
Dispatches From The New Economy: The On-Demand Economy And The Future Of WorkIntuit Inc.
From delivery, transportation and household errands, to professional services and consulting, the on-demand economy is changing the way people consume goods and services. It is also changing the way people work. Intuit and Emergent Research forecast that the number of people working on-demand jobs will grow from 3.2 million Americans to 7.6 million by 2020. This is a once in a generation opportunity to empower the future of work and a new face of entrepreneurship.
Dispatches from the New Economy: The On-Demand Workforce provides a detailed analysis of the demographics, motivations and challenges of workers pursuing on-demand jobs. The data comes from a study from Intuit and Emergent Research that examined people working via eleven on-demand economy and online talent marketplace companies. Study participants included: Deliv, Field Nation, HourlyNerd, MBO Partners, OnForce, Uber, Upwork (formerly Elance-oDesk), Visually, Wonolo, and Work Market.
Methodology
A total of 4,622 workers who find work opportunities via the platforms provided by the participating partner companies completed an online survey between September 11 and October 1, 2015. The results were weighted to reflect the proportion of workers in each of the following segments: Drivers/Delivery, Online Talent Marketplaces and Field Service/Onsite Talent. The weights were developed using earlier survey work that sized the on-demand economy. The largest weighted share of on-demand worker respondents from any single company is 16%, with most partner companies providing less than 10% of the respondents.

American consumers are navigating a “new normal” of living with COVID-19, embracing at-home testing and the added convenience of virtual care, and seeking new options for how and where they conduct work, according to the latest consumer healthcare insights survey.
Global consumers want similar things when it comes to personal data. In this slideshow, we explore the sentiments about data privacy expressed by people across countries, industries, and data types.

We’ve shared a lot of data about whether and why ‘this time is different’. But beyond that, why is the tech market opportunity larger than any time in history (no, really!)? One word: mobile.
In this update of his past presentation on Mobile Eating the World — delivered this month at Andreessen Horowitz’ annual investor meeting — a16z’s Benedict Evans shares just how and why mobile changes everything. Because tech is outgrowing the tech industry.
In many ways, Asian Americans in the US have had meaningful economic and social impact but they face a number of challenges that have often been overlooked.
Tips for the Food sector: To keep up with this constantly shifting consumer behavior, look for early signs by using Google Trends to see how demand for certain food products or delivery services is changing to meet people’s needs.
Tips for Travel marketers: Our APAC travel recovery itinerary revealed that people have local trips and safety in mind, so marketers should seek to provide safety information upfront and present local product offerings and fun activities.
Tips for keeping people entertained: Though some people who signed up for a new entertainment source might stay, there’s also a higher likelihood of churn when their trial period ends. If you saw an increase in people signing up for your online products and services, focus on retention to keep them coming back, especially if you offered a free trial during the pandemic.
Tips for merchants: Make sure you integrate digital payment options for your consumers. Digital payments are expected to see a continued boost post-COVID-19, and trust in e-Wallets will likely increase.
Although there is still some instability, the internet sector in SEA is set to emerge stronger than ever in a post-COVID-19 world. The digital economy remains a bright spot in a very challenging economic environment, and e-Commerce remains a key driver of growth. The biggest takeaway for brands and marketers is the need to focus on people and their changing habits online, as well as keeping up with changing trends, as we continue to understand what our new normal will look like in the future.
COVID-19’s uneven trajectory has created a slower-than-expected rebound in urban travel worldwide. Some mobility modes, however, are poised to exceed pre-pandemic levels. BCG provides a breakdown of recovery levels in urban mobility by region and mode--and over time.

The Plateau Effect: Why People Get Stuck...and How to Break ThroughThePlateauEffect
The Plateau Effect is a powerful law of nature that affects everyone. Learn to identify plateaus and break through any stagnancy in your life— from diet and exercise, to work, to relationships.
The Plateau Effect shows how athletes, scientists, therapists, companies, and musicians around the world are learning to break through their plateaus—to turn off the forces that cause people to “get used to” things—and turn on human potential and happiness in ways that seemed impossible. The book identifies three key flattening forces that generate plateaus, two principles to guide readers in engineering a plateau’s destruction, and three actions to take to achieve peak behavior. It helps us to stop wasting time on things that are no longer of value and to focus on the things that leverage our time and energy in spectacular ways.
Anything you want to do better—play guitar, make friends, communicate with your children, run a business—you can accomplish faster by understanding the plateau effect.

In the past, careers were stable, linear and singular. People chose one path and pursued it over the course of their lives from college to retirement. In our modern age of technology driven exponential change - this model no longer works.
Careers are now complex, fragmented, specialized, collaborative and ever evolving. More often than not, our work life will be made up of a portfolio of micro-careers.
This presentation will show you a snapshot of 20 careers that will likely come of age in the next 10 years. Some of these jobs exist now, but will come into greater demand soon. Others do not exist yet, but through our daily scanning of future fringe signals we see strong potential in their emergence.

Congratulations Graduate! Eleven Reasons Why I Will Never Hire You.Mark O'Toole
Over the past 20 years, I’ve been in hiring roles and have received thousands of resumes from new college graduates. I’ve interviewed many for real jobs and done my share of informational interviews. Sometimes I’ve hired people into entry-level positions. More often though, I haven’t.
Those who did not get the job were sometimes just not the right fit. Other times, they were trumped by a more impressive candidate or victim to some other random event mostly out of their control.
Too many had the background to make the cut or at least garner a second interview. But disastrous interviewing skills brought you down.
Here are my top reasons why I will never hire you.

KPCB’s Mary Meeker presents the 2015 Internet Trends report, 20 years after the inaugural “The Internet Report” was first published in 1995. Since then, the number of Internet users has risen from 35 million in 1995 to more than 2.8 billion today. The 2015 report looks at key Internet trends globally – while still healthy Internet user and smartphone subscription growth continue to slow, Internet engagement continues to rise led by consumers spending more time on their mobile devices, where they can be connected 24/7. Mobile advertising still has headroom to expand and new innovations around ad formats and buy buttons should prove compelling for consumers and businesses.

Two decades after 1995, the year of the Netscape IPO, the Internet population has exploded in size, it’s much more mobile, and it’s increasingly driven by user-created content and flexible content delivery that’s controlled by users. But growth is slowing in all but a few key areas.
While some of these points seem obvious, Mary Meeker’s charts, graphs and data helps quantify the landscape.
The tech industry makes a yearly tradition of turning to the fast-talking and data-synthesizing Meeker, a former Wall Street analyst turned late-stage venture capitalist at Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers who publishes an influential annual assessment of the Internet economy. As has been her custom in recent years, Meeker introduced her Internet Trends report at the Code Conference in Rancho Palos Verdes on Wednesday.
Here’s how Meeker sets the stage: Two-thirds of a generation into the Internet, there were 2.8 billion users as of 2014, up from 35 million in 1995.
In 20 years, that’s 39 percent of the world’s population, up from .06 percent.

We are re-imagining more and more aspects of our daily lives, as mobile users and entrepreneurs continue to push innovation and creative output across new online platforms. User-generated / curated / shared content continues to rise, ranging from pins on Pinterest to videos on Snapchat and Facebook. Business processes continue to be re-imagined, led by companies aiming to make data more useful and services more efficient. Demographic shifts are helping to accelerate technology changes. Millennials are now the largest generation in the workforce and their work / life expectations differ from previous generations. As connectivity and commerce continue to rise, we have witnessed broad impacts on consumer expectations, which in turn can alter work for many, to a form of work that can be flexible and supplemental. Looking internationally, Chinese Internet leaders continue to innovate, while India is on-track to become the second-largest Internet market in the world.

This event was organized *by* and *for* the students from HEC Paris. Some students talked about subjects they care about, dealing with various aspects of the web such as web languages, e-marketing, analytics, mobile development, cloud computing, etc.
These talks all had one common rule : practice over theory. That is why efforts have been made to be as much « hands-on » as possible, with lots of live demos and visuals.
This event was an initiative from Emiland De Cubber & Nicolas Mondollot, two students from Digital Business Strategy course of HEC Paris and Télécom ParisTech.
