Mark Twain Primary
Professional Development Plan
“Educators have slid into the 21st century ----- and into the digital age---- still doing a
great many things the old way. It’s time for education leaders to raise their heads above
the daily grind and observe the new landscape that’s emerging” (Prenksy, 2005-2006, p.
9). Our district’s improvement plan, as well as our campus improvement plan recognizes
the need for professional development in technology applications. Our technology
weakness in our district involves lack of collaboration between the Department of
Technology and the Department of Instruction. Curriculum in all grade levels should
include technology integration based on the TEKS Technology Applications. In junior
high through high school, there is evidence of technology implementation of curriculum;
4. however grade levels below junior high have less opportunities to use technology in their
learning due to lack of equipment, lack curriculum instructional support and resources,
and lack of teacher staff development in implementing project based technology plans.
Our campus does allow training on software programs for data analysis, lesson
planning, and curriculum access. These need to continue with additional professional
development to review and revise. All professional development activities are aligned
with the State’s applications standards for teachers.
Goal: To provide staff development to improve decision making in the integration of
technology into the curriculum that is collaborative, interactive, and differentiated and
supported by instructional and organizational leadership.
Staff Development Activities:
• Forethought Training: Teachers will review and revisit training on how to access
the district's curriculum and how to create lesson plans on-line using Forethought.
o Evaluation: Administrator monitor of usage of Forethought. Teacher survey
and feedback of Forethought usage. Lesson plans reflect Forethought usage.
• AWARE Software: Teachers will be trained on the utilization of assessment reports
from TEAMS Student Management System and AWARE Data Analysis to plan and
modify classroom instruction to ensure student success in content areas. They will
learn to analyze reports of student performance data in relationship to the TEAMS
Student Management System.
o Evaluation: Monitoring student performance in content areas. Administrator
visits to classrooms.
5. • AEIS and AYP Reports: Teachers will learn how to locate and print AEIS and AYP
reports. They will analysis data the reports by disaggregating data for campus and
district results. They will learn how to set goals and develop instruction based on the
data.
o Evaluation: Monitoring student performance in content areas. Administrator
visits to classrooms.
• STaR Chart: Teachers will review data from the STaR Chart completed from the
previous school year. They will analyze areas of needed improvement and create
goals to improve the integration of technology in classroom.
o Evaluation: Survey of needs assessment of staff on their use of technology in
the classroom.
• Promethean Activboards: Teachers will learn how to effectively implement
Promethean Activboards to use for delivery of instruction.
o Evaluation: Monitor classroom implementation
• Campus Software: Train teachers on campus software to be taught to students
based on the needs of the campus and students.
o Evaluation: Student performance of their technology project based on the
Technology Applications TEKS.
• Project Based Technology Instruction: Teachers will be trained in how to
implement technology into the curriculum using project based instruction involving
instructing student in blogging, accessing information on the internet, and using
various software programs such as PowerPoint, Word Processing, Kidpix, and
Kidspiration.
o Evaluation: Student performance of their technology project based on the
Technology Applications TEKS.
6. • Copyright and Online Safety: Train teachers on the copyright laws and online
safety so they can instruct students on copyright infringements and how to determine
credible information on the internet
o Evaluation: Monitor usage for all digital and online instruction resources that
allow for tracking including library databases, streaming video and online
curriculum resources.
Evaluation Planning for Action Plan
“Good evaluations are the product of thoughtful planning, the ability to ask good
questions, and a basic understanding of how to find valid answers” (Guskey, T.R., 1998,
p. 36-37). The evaluation of the technology professional development activities will be a
systematic ongoing process. All aspects will be assessed through surveys, student and
teacher performance, and monitoring. Individual technology goals, strategies and
objectives will be reviewed at staff meetings and the technology campus meetings. All
evaluations will be based on the impact on student performance with the TEKS
Technology Applications. The District and Campus Improvement plans will be reviewed
and revised based on the Long Range Technology Plan.
Goal: To make decisions on the impact that technology has on the learning process for
all students and teachers in relation with the TEKS Technology Applications and the
District’s Long Range Plan for Technology.
Evaluations for specific staff developments are addressed above in the Part 2
assignment.
