S PIRITUAL GROWTH (Heb. 10:24-25) Because I am joining this group to grow spiritually and to help others do the same, I will refrain from conducting business, borrowing money or using this Dgroup for purposes other than spiritual growth. T IMOTHIES (2 Tim. 2:2) I will have it as my goal to eventually build my own Dgroup.

2. JUMPSTART, A Humble Heart ! Bring out one or two of your favorite keys. What are they for? Ponder on the following D12 Accountability Questions . There are 8 questions. After answering all questions in your mind, write down a prayer to God. Have you been faithful in your quiet time, reading of GOD’s word and prayer? How is your relationship with your spouse and children or parents and siblings? When was the last time you shared the Gospel? Are you discipling or taking steps to disciple other men/women? Have you ever been struggling with impure thoughts? Have you looked at questionable materials (movies, TV, book, internet, magazines, etc.), which would bring shame to the LORD?

3. Are you struggling with substance abuse such as drugs, alcohol, cigarettes? Have you been alone with a man/woman in any kind of situation where your feelings or actions became inappropriate or where others could have suspected that something inappropriate was going on? Are there any problems, challenges or stress in your personal life or ministry? How is your financial situation? Any debts? Have you been faithful in giving your tithes to the LORD? Have you lied or compromised your answer to any of the above questions?

6. TODAY’s KEY VERSE: 2 Chronicles 7:14 “ if My people who are called by My name …” Who is God’s people? Read 2 Chronicles 1:1-12. We can see Solomon having “established himself firmly over his kingdom,” and one night, after he had spoken to “all Israel,” God appeared to him and asked him whatever he wanted. In verse 10, what did Solomon ask for?

7. WE are GOD’s people! In verse 11-12, what was God’s response to Solomon? “ My people ” that God refers to in the verse are the Israelites. Today, it refers to all people whom God has called to worship Him in Spirit and in Truth, through faith in Jesus Christ (Eph. 1:3-14; John 17). As John Maxwell has put it, Solomon knew the ‘Law of Priorities.’ He asked for wisdom to lead his people well and “God responded by rewarding him not only with the thing he asked for, but also with all the benefits he didn’t request.” We are called to be ‘salt and light,’ (Matthew 5:13-16) and in carrying out the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19), God expects us to ask for for His wisdom in helping us prioritize what is essential for building up His kingdom. When we do, He is ready and willing to give it to us – and even more! (James 1:5). The keys to REVIVAL are the hands of His people! How do we use those keys to unlock God’s power through us?

9. Key #1: Humble Oneself In the prayer you’ve written, underline any word or phrase which shows humility. How do we humble ourselves before God? Stop pointing fingers outward, blaming and judging others. (Romans 2:1-4) Point inward, assume responsibility and stop rationalizing. (Romans 3:23; 1 John 1:8,10) ADMIT need for God. Be honest with God. Confess. (1 John 1:9) Some of God’s responses to people who have humbled themselves before Him: He heard them (2 Chron. 34:27-28); He honored their plea (Gen. 18:25-33); They found favor in His eyes (Luke 7:9).

11. Key #2: Pray Ephesians 6:18 – “And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and keep on praying for all the saints.” During the Prayer and Fasting last Friday, GOD – through Pastor Jonathan Fenix – gave two pointers from this verse: Prayer is our line of communication to God, meaning, we don’t just talk to God; we need to listen and respond to Him. Set aside regular time for ACTS of prayer Pray in and out of season. We pray in the guidance and control of the Holy Spirit Always keep an ATTITUDE of prayer Humility Dependence on God Consciousness of God’s presence What acts of prayer are you familiar with? What practical steps can you take to practice or maintain an attitude of prayer?

Key #3: Seek GOD’s Face Matthew 6:33 – “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” From the verse, what one word do you think best describes God’s face? WWJD ? Our ultimate goal us Christians is to continually bring glory to GOD’s name in everything (thoughts, speech, actions) so that we will not lose our saltiness or be like lamps under a bowl (Matthew 5:13-16). It means that we pursue a lifestyle of holiness and choose not to settle for mediocrity or ‘sub-standard’ Christianity. We strive for righteousness as a result of our faith in JESUS because He is our Model; He is our Benchmark; He is The STANDARD. “This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe.” (Romans 3:22a)

14. ACTIVITY: Acrostics Whether using C.A.S.T. (Confess, Acclaim, Supplication, Thanksgiving) or A.C.T.S., which is the ‘format’ of the Lord’s Prayer, there is no “pattern” that God requires of us. What God wants to see in us as we pray are the attitudes of humility, honesty and complete trust in Him. God answers not according to our prayers but according to our FAITH. The objective of this activity is to assess how well we know God personally and intimately. This can help us how to acclaim God during our personal prayer time or whenever we are called to pray. Write the letters of your name vertically. Across each letter, think of an adjective which describes God. The Holy Spirit may remind you of a specific event in your life that is associated with that word. Write it down.

15. As we grow in the faith, it helps to be regularly reminded that we cannot do anything good apart from Christ, and that – as Max Lucado, Rick Warren and many other Christian leaders put it – “It’s not about you.” It helps to be reminded that “ The heart is deceitful.. ” and that we need God’s grace to fully understand what His will is and, by faith, take a step in obedience. The Holy Spirit convicts us when we sin and it takes humility not to rationalize our actions (or even our thoughts) and ask for God’s forgiveness right away.

Key #4: Repent 2 Corinthians 3:16-18 – “ 16 But whenever anyone turns to the LORD , the veil is taken away. 17 Now the LORD is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the LORD is, there is freedom . 18 And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the LORD’s glory, are being transformed into His likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the LORD who is the Spirit.” REPENTANCE is taking a 180-degree turn from sin, not 360 degrees, because the latter would mean going back to where we started. Repentance is a “NO TURNING BACK” attitude towards sin and a firm resolve to “TURN TO” the LORD for freedom and transformation: Matthew 3:8 – “Produce fruit in keeping with repentance.”

18. Acts 4:31 – “After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly .” Acts 2:38-39 – “ 38 Peter replied, ‘Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off – for all whom the LORD our GOD will call .’” Acts 4:31 – “Repent, then and turn to GOD , so that your sins may be wiped out , that times of refreshing may come from the LORD,”

20. TAKE-HOME Key #1: Humble Oneself. As God’s people we should humble ourselves before God and adjust our lives to prioritize those things that glorify His name. We must be honest with Him. Key #2: Pray. We should set regular acts of prayer, persevere in prayer and strive to maintain an attitude of prayer at all times. Key #3: Seek God’s face. We must pursue and model a lifestyle of holiness, setting JESUS as our Standard for righteousness. Key #4: Repent. Repentance is taking a 180-degree turn from sin and moving forward with JESUS. It promises forgiveness of sins, transformation, the gift of the Holy Spirit and boldness.

21. Why Is Praying Together Important? Prayer is a key means by which we demonstrate our commitment to The Greatest Commandment ( Mark 12:29-31 ). Allan Harkness in ‘Praying Together’ wrote about the POTENTIAL when we pray together: Both prayer and small groups are expression of community – real “koinonia” (fellowship) of God’s kingdom. Both prayer and small groups are places where Christians may sense that they are “at home.” We experience affirmation and strength, loving and correction given and received graciously. Both prayer and small groups provide a setting to allow God to work at reforming us to reflect His life.

22. Matthew 18:19-20: “Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them.” God helps us to become fully-formed disciples through both prayer and small groups. (See 2 Corinthians 3:18 ) Thinking / Emotions / Tendencies / Self-esteem / Relationships / Development of special gifts / Responsibility Careful and sensitive listening develops our skills.
