Lesson by Mike Smith
The overwhelming need for people today who want to live with a ready mind to serve God faithfully is to develop the attitude of repentance.
(1 Samuel 13:1-15; 15:1-35) - The belief in sin, and the idea that someone could be referred to as a “sinner,” have all but disappeared from our permissive society. Sinful behavior has been explained away, excused, tolerated, defended, and now accepted by most people. When confronted with sin, king David simply said, “I have sinned against the Lord” (2 Sam 12:13). However, when some Christians are confronted with sin in their life, they become defensive and seek to excuse the behavior that is under question.

What does it mean to repent? How do you actually go about it? And what does the parable of the figtree (Luke 13:6-9) In this presentation we talked about repentance as, rather than assenting to a collection of truth claims, instead it is seeing things as they really are - like Neo choosing to see the Matrix. And then we talked about the stories we inhabit in our culture (e.g. of success) because to see things as they really are, we have to be able to see how we see them, Finally we considered that at least part of the process of the Christian life is to grow into the story of the Redeeming God and God's action through Jesus Christ- and that church seasons are a part of that process.
Perhaps that's a bit much for an evening, but it certainly hung together in my mind.

Remorse is being sorry you got caught. Suppose you‘re driving fast and got caught by the police (because you broke the speed limit). You are remorseful because had you not got caught you would have kept driving fast. Repentance is being sorry enough to stop what you are doing and change your behavior.
What Is Real, True, Genuine Repentance?Don McClain
“What Is Real, True, Genuine Repentance?" - [According To God’s Word — Matthew 21:28-32] - Repentance is a command of God / Repentance is something God wills that every one of us would do - Sadly, very few are willing to actually, truly REPENT! Repentance has often been referenced as “the hardest command!” Why? What is so difficult about repentance? In this study we examine what repentance IS NOT - then five characteristics of genuine repentance.
An overview of the bible
Since the beginning of time, there has been a plan for Jesus and our souls. God’s plan is revealed throughout the entire Bible! Many view the Old and New Testaments as unrelated, but there is an amazing message that begins in the Old Testament and carries through to the New Testament. The message is of God’s love and man’s redemption. That is what this booklet is about. I hope it will be an encouragement to you.

David was guilty of adultery and murder (2 Sam. 11). This we have called “David’s Sin.” Though a man after God’s own heart, he fell (Acts 13:21, 22). He also faltered when he numbered Israel.
We can learn from David’s other sin:
1. Listen to true friends
2. Confess your sins
3. God is merciful
4. Offer real sacrifices
5. Trust in God.

Psalm 32:5-6: Since God knows our sin, why does he desire that we confess our sins. He is like a parent, who wants a child to return. Confessing helps us to face the reality of our sin, make real changes, it liberates us from our past sins and reminds us that He is faithful.

It seems that current missionary work requires spending a lot of money, preparing a lot of materials, and traveling to far away places, so that it feels like missionary work. But what was the result they brought back? It's just a lot of photos of activities, fun eating, drinking and some playing games. And then we have to do the same thing next year, never ending. The church once mentioned that a certain missionary would go to the field where she used to work before the end of his life. It seemed that if she had not gone, no one would be willing to go. The reason why these missionary work is so difficult is that no one obeys God’s words, and the Bible is not the main content during missionary work, because in the eyes of those who do not obey God’s words, the Bible is just words and cannot be connected with life, so Reading out God's words is boring because it doesn't have any life experience, so it cannot be connected with human life. I will give a few examples in the hope that this situation can be changed. A375
In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.
2. As John the baptizer insisted they must bring changed lives that were obvious by the fruit their lives bore. Luke 6:20-ff
3. Some of God’s people who rely on God’s sacrifice for sin (Hebrews 10:12) assume that since their sins are dealt with, that it doesn’t matter how they live (Romans 6:1-2). This assumption is wrong!
4. The Bible teaches that if we want to have fellowship with God, we must live in a way which reflects the holiness of God (1 Peter 1:16; 1 John 1:5).
21. David places Uriah in front lines of battle, success Uriah dies. Notice who else dies because of this! Don’t try to cover your sin, it leads to more trouble. 2 Samuel 11:14-24
24. His sins were forgiven (v.13) but they carried with them some awful consequences. 2 Samuel 12:12, 14, 18-19Conclusion:
What should we do with any and all sin that we have? Repent of it! Change your mind and stop the sin! Acts 26:20b
Like David, we need to keep God’s word in our heart to tell us what the sin is, and come to the sobering conclusion, “Thou art the man,” the one who is guilty of committing such destructive sin.
As a Christian, one must come to God with a broken and contrite heart saying please forgive me, have mercy on me as I repent, and let the blood of Jesus now wash me from my sin. Acts 8:22; 1 Jn. 1:9
Oh, that all of us be like David, a man after God’s own heart, that will keep the attitude of repentance whenever we may stray, so that we may come back to God as soon as we realize our sinful condition.
Come to Jesus today and be saved!
Hear and believe the gospel message of Christ. 1 Corinthians 15:1-4
Repent of your sinful living and be converted to a new life. Acts 3:19
Confess your faith in Jesus as the Son of God. Acts 8:37; Romans 10:10
Be baptized to wash away your sins, obtaining salvation through Jesus blood.
