Life is Short..
The Gospel of Luke 13:1-9
.
God Gives Us His Words of Eternal Life
Luke 13:1-9
Found on page 872 in our guest Bibles.
Today’s Scripture:
When you hear of someone
stepping off the stage of this world,
where does your mind tend to drift?
It is better to go to the
house of mourning than to
go to the house of
feasting, for this is the end
of all mankind, and the
living will take it to heart.
~ Ecclesiastes 7:2
Life is Short..
The Gospel of Luke 13:1-9
.
1 There were some present at the very
The Gospel of Luke 13:1-9
time who told him about the Galileans
whose blood Pilate had mingled with
their sacrifices.
2 And he answered them, “Do you think
The Gospel of Luke 13:1-9
that these Galileans were worse sinners
than all the other Galileans, because they
suffered in this way?
“Consider now: Who, being innocent, has
ever perished? Where were the upright ever
destroyed? As I have observed, those who
plow evil and those who sow trouble reap it.
At the breath of God they perish; at the
blast of his anger they are no more.”
~ Eliphaz in Job 4:7-9
2 And he answered them, “Do you think
The Gospel of Luke 13:1-9
that these Galileans were worse sinners
than all the other Galileans, because they
suffered in this way? 3 No, I tell you; but
unless you repent, you will all likewise
perish.
4 Or those eighteen on whom the tower
The Gospel of Luke 13:1-9
in Siloam fell and killed them: do you
think that they were worse offenders than
all the others who lived in Jerusalem?
4 Or those eighteen on whom the tower
The Gospel of Luke 13:1-9
in Siloam fell and killed them: do you
think that they were worse offenders than
all the others who lived in Jerusalem?
5 No I tell you; but unless you repent,
you will all likewise perish.
When you go through a period in your life in
which your life is going smoothly, you are in very
dangerous territory spiritually…. There is no
greater crisis than to have no crisis in your life.
There is no greater danger than
to have no sense of danger
in your life.

Take care lest you forget the Lord your
God…, lest when you have eaten and are
full and have built good houses and live in
them, and when your herds and flocks
multiply and your silver and gold is
multiplied and all that you have is multiplied,
then your heart will be lifted up, and you
forget the Lord your God….
~ Moses in Deuteronomy 8:11-14
Unless you turn to God,
you too will perish.
~ Jesus of Nazareth
“
6 And he told them this parable: “A man
The Gospel of Luke 13:1-9
had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and
he came seeking fruit on it and found
none.
6 And he told them this parable: “A man
The Gospel of Luke 13:1-9
had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and
he came seeking fruit on it and found
none. 7 And he came to the vinedresser,
‘Look, for three years now I have come
seeking fruit on this fig tree, and I find
none. Cut it down. Why should it use up
the ground?”
8 And he answered him, ‘Sir, let it alone

this year also, until I dig around it and
put on manure. 9 Then if it should bear
fruit next year, well and good; but if not,
but it down.’
~ The Apostle Paul in Romans 2:4
Do you presume on the
riches of his kindness
and forbearance and
patience, not knowing
that God’s kindness is
meant to lead you to
repentance?
Why does Luke record this
account in his historical

biography of Jesus?
Important Question
There may be no more important
time to turn to God than when
things are going well in your life.
HT: Tim Keller
“[The Lord] is patient
with you, not wishing
that any should perish,
but that all should come
to repentance.”
~ The Apostle Peter
in 2 Peter 3:9
“For God so loved the
world that he gave his
only Son, that whoever
believes in him might
not perish, but have
eternal life.”
~ The Apostle John in
The Gospel of John, 3:16
