Kamaraj was an influential Indian politician who served as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu in the 1950s and 1960s. During his time as Chief Minister, he oversaw tremendous development efforts across various sectors in Tamil Nadu including education, agriculture, and industry. Some of his key accomplishments included establishing over 5,000 new schools, making primary education free, introducing mid-day meal programs in schools, building many new irrigation dams and reservoirs, expanding rural electrification, and establishing several new industries. Kamaraj's development efforts helped transform Tamil Nadu and set an example for other states to follow.
