What is Validation?
Process whereby an awarding body confirms that a learner who
successfully completes a programme of education and training
offered by a provider will acquire a certain standard in terms of
their knowledge, skill and competence.
In essence the development and design of the programme is
reviewed to ensure:
• Coherence
• Capacity
• Compliance
• Consistency
The Apprenticeship … the Journey
• Professional award-type descriptors for each
NFQ level
• Occupational profile – developed by
enterprise-led consortium & approved by
Apprenticeship Council
Standards
The Apprenticeship … where they fit?
QA guidelines – core, sectoral, and apprentice-specific
• each individual consortium develop its own QA
procedures based on guidelines
QA procedures reflect capabilities and roles of various
players in consortium
• QA approval & validation conducted in parallel
• Existing QA procedures are relevant
– Coordinating providers without previous QQI-approved QA
have an additional step

  • 2. What is Validation? Process whereby an awarding body confirms that a learner who successfully completes a programme of education and training offered by a provider will acquire a certain standard in terms of their knowledge, skill and competence. In essence the development and design of the programme is reviewed to ensure: • Coherence • Capacity • Compliance • Consistency
  • 4. • Professional award-type descriptors for each NFQ level • Occupational profile – developed by enterprise-led consortium & approved by Apprenticeship Council Standards
  • 5. The Apprenticeship … where they fit?
  • 6. QA guidelines – core, sectoral, and apprentice-specific • each individual consortium develop its own QA procedures based on guidelines QA procedures reflect capabilities and roles of various players in consortium • QA approval & validation conducted in parallel • Existing QA procedures are relevant – Coordinating providers without previous QQI-approved QA have an additional step Quality assurance
