This document discusses the relationship between policy and research and provides strategies to strengthen their interaction. It examines how commissions in Latin America were comprised of researchers and civil society representatives. The researchers' side should understand the policy context and objectives. Throughout the research process, they should nurture credibility, formulate policy-relevant questions, and stay close to decision-makers. Communicating effectively is also important. In conclusion, organizations should get organized to better bridge the gap between policy and research.
Policy entrepreneurs and development entrepreneurs: a discussion with The Asi...Arnaldo Pellini
Had a very interesting meeting and discussion with about 20 staff of the Asia Foundation in Manila. We talked about policy entrepreneurship and development entrepreneurship and discussed the differences and similarities between the two concepts. The slides refer to the policy entrepreneur concept developed by ODI's RAPID programme
These slides provide the basis for a workshop that teaches the key points of the Strategic and Implementation Planning Model created by Ethan Sanders and me.
Dr. Totti Könnölä from Impetu Solutions waas invited to give a keynote speech on 'Opening Horizons: What kind of new approaches are available?' in the COST Foresight on Future Demand for Forest-based Products and Services: Dissemination Conference on September 13, 2011, in Sekocin Stary (Near Warsaw)/Poland.

Pivotal role of intelligence analysis in ILPdalened
This is a presentation I delivered at a "Intelligence Strategies for Law Enforcement" conference in March 2010 in Pretoria. The focus was what analysts\' role is and what contribution they can make to the fight against crime. I represented the International Association for Law Enforcement Intelligence Analysts (IALEIA). You might find slide 5 with the 4 steps in the Intel cycle useful to describe to your colleagues what they can expect from you in all phases of the Intel process. I was a bit disappointed with the conference, as the organizers have definitely not done research to understand the topic themselves or get speakers that understand even the basics of intelligence.... However, I got some good feedback after the conference, but it looks as if we still have a very long struggle ahead of us to establish Intel-led policing in SA...

Every established firm needs engaged Consumers and brand loyalists and advocates - higher the share of loyal & engaged consumers, higher is the brand respect and business performance. Numbers are relatively inexpensive, quick, efficient and more direct way of understanding the engagement and drivers. However Research adds in the additional dimension of motivations/emotions driving such engagement. Only when we bring them together in a strategic way, can we truly appreciate our Customers & be able to offer them the best solutions & services.

The International Forum on Water and Food (IFWF) is the premier gathering of water and food scientists working on improving water management for agricultural production in developing countries.
The CGIAR Challenge Program for Water and Food (CPWF) represents one of the most comprehensive investments in the world on water, food and environment research. The Forum explores how the CPWF research-for-development (R4D) approach can address water and food challenges through a combination of process, institutional and technical innovations.
Advanced EC seminar on decentralisation and local governance
European Commission EuropeAid
2-5 July 2012, Brussels
The seminar reviewed the country context and the evolving international development framework and considered how to manage the political dimensions of decentralisation. It also looked at using decentralisation as a trigger to foster better development outcomes and governance and what all this means for future EU engagement in decentralisation and local governance. Jean Bossuyt, ECDPM, was the lead facilitator of this meeting. Alisa Herrero, ECDPM, was also one of the experts facilitating this seminar.
