This document outlines Professor Julia Newton's research on chronic fatigue syndrome/myalgic encephalomyelitis (CFS/ME) and dysautonomia. Her research has found that many CFS/ME patients experience symptoms of dysautonomia like dizziness, fainting, and fatigue upon standing. Technological developments allow for improved measurement of autonomic function. Current work involves establishing a prospective cohort study to research the brain, muscle, and liver in CFS/ME patients. If running the Scottish health system, she would identify and treat CFS/ME patients with dysautonomia symptoms.
