BIOGRAPHY OF WRITER
• Si Edilberto K. Tiempo ay nagtapos ng kursong Bachelor of Arts sa Siliman University, Iowa samantalang ang
kanyang Masteral at Doctoral Degrees ay tinapos niya sa Denver, Colorado.
• Tumanggap siya ng Fellowship Award sa Rockefeller Guggenheins Foundation at nagturo ng malikhaing pagsulat sa
Western Michigan University at Wartburg College sa Iowa.
• Kahit na mahabang panahon ang inilagi niya sa Amerika dahil sa kanyang propesyon, ang kanyang pananaw ay
nanatiling Pilipinung-Pilipino. Ang kalipunan ng mga nasulat niyang maikling kuwento ay inilathala ng Bookmark.
• Nagturo siya ng mahabang panahon sa Siliman University sa Lungsod ng Dumaguete. Isang kinikilalang mahalagang
ambag niya, katulong ang kanyang asawang si Edith Tiempo sa Kulturang Pilipino ay ang taun-taong paglulunsad ng
Writers' Workshop.
• Sa larangan ng pagsusulat, higit siyang kilala sa pagsusulat ng maiikling kuwento at nobela samantalang ang kanyang
asawa ay kinHala sa larangan ng panulaan.
• Ang dalawang nobelang nasulat niya na nalathala sa Amerika ay ang A Wath in the Night na binigyan ng bagong
pamagat na Cry Havoc at ang More Then Conquerors.
• Isa siya sa mga manunulat na may malaking pagpapahalaga sa moralidad at integridad. Naniniwala siyang upang
mapanatili ang integridad sa sarili, kailangan ang ibayong pagpapakasakit.

CHARACTERS
• Minggay awok
• Round character (Antagonist)
• She was speculated as the witch in the story and she was blamed for all the unfortunate Incidents that
happened in their place.
• The boy
• Flat character (protagonist)
• He has portrayed in the story as an obedient and a dutiful lad. He was easily affected by the rumors
sorrounding him, to the point of almost believing them without reasonable proofs.
• Tio sabelo
• The head teacher of the barrio school
SETTING
• Barrio of Libas ( Southern Leyte, PH )
PLOT SYNOPSIS
• Meanwhile, Minggay lived in a small low hut by the bank of the creek isolating the
barrios of Libas from Sinitan.People didn’t know what precisely inside her house.
Therefore, one man who crowed of having gone inside her house while she is out in
her clearing on a hill. According to the man, he had seen dirty stoppered bottles
hanging from the bamboo strips of the cogon roof. The man said that some of the
bottles contained insects like scorpions, centipedes, beetles, bumble bees, and many
more. In the next morning, the boy decided to catch a fish in the river to bring for his
mother. On the silence, a boy didn’t observe that someone is looking at him out there.
A woman who about fifty years of age who makes laundry in her things. When the boy
has a poor catching of a fish, a woman told the boy in surprise to go over the river and
there he can find many fish, crabs and shrimps.The old woman was not wrong,
without the knowledge of the boy, though he is afraid of Minggay, the boy perfectly
catch many shrimps. After catching, he went back to the old woman and thanking her.
But when the woman introduced herself, that she is Minggay Awok, the boy started to
fear of her. He then goes away from the river and when he is far away from Minggay,
he run away and stop. As he walked again, the string of shrimps kept brushing again
the side of his leg. So he detached it from his belt except for the three small ones
because those are not belonged to Minggay. Angrily, he hurled those shrimps back in
the river.
THE PLOT DIAGRAM
• Exposition
• In the barrio of Libas, the boy was just 12 years old and he goes there in the river and he found an old lady
and that was the called Witch named Minggay Awok.
• Rising action
• That is when the town have a problem they blame the witch named Minggay just because she is a witch
• Climax
• When the guy comes in Minggay Awok's house and found out that it have many bottles that have different bugs.
• Falling action
• The old woman was not wrong, but without the knwoledge of the boy, though he is afraid of minggay, he
perfectly catch many q. After learning that the old woman is Minggay Awok.
• Resolution
• He then goes away from the river and when he is far away from Minggay, he run away and stop. As he
walked again, the string of shrimps kept brushing again the side of his leg. So he detached it from his belt
except for the three small ones because those are not belonged to Minggay. Angrily, he hurled those shrimps
back in the river.
TYPES OF CONFLICTS
• Man Vs Man
• The type of conflict in "The Witch" by Edilberto K Tiempo is Man
Vs. Man. Because it's all about the witch, also called as awok in the
place of southern Leyte. Minggay was known as one of them,
Minggay was so popular even 5 sitios beyond Limbas.
THEME
• The theme of the story Not all we see, touch, hear is true, we cant
judge a thing or idea that only see by our eyes. We also cant just
believe a story that was just said by people without a prove even it
is popular or not. Proving, explaining an idea is not a bad thing, as
long as we dont hurt, affect someone's feeling and as long as we
have enough data, proves that we can relay on.
SIMBOLISM
Book
When the antagonis accuse that she is a
witch but she’s not, she is a good old
woman and she have a big heart.
POINT OF VIEW
• The narator (protagonist)
• He is narrating about what he experiences when go
to barrio of libas in southern leyte and seeing and
talking to the witch.

  • 2. BIOGRAPHY OF WRITER • Si Edilberto K. Tiempo ay nagtapos ng kursong Bachelor of Arts sa Siliman University, Iowa samantalang ang kanyang Masteral at Doctoral Degrees ay tinapos niya sa Denver, Colorado. • Tumanggap siya ng Fellowship Award sa Rockefeller Guggenheins Foundation at nagturo ng malikhaing pagsulat sa Western Michigan University at Wartburg College sa Iowa. • Kahit na mahabang panahon ang inilagi niya sa Amerika dahil sa kanyang propesyon, ang kanyang pananaw ay nanatiling Pilipinung-Pilipino. Ang kalipunan ng mga nasulat niyang maikling kuwento ay inilathala ng Bookmark. • Nagturo siya ng mahabang panahon sa Siliman University sa Lungsod ng Dumaguete. Isang kinikilalang mahalagang ambag niya, katulong ang kanyang asawang si Edith Tiempo sa Kulturang Pilipino ay ang taun-taong paglulunsad ng Writers' Workshop. • Sa larangan ng pagsusulat, higit siyang kilala sa pagsusulat ng maiikling kuwento at nobela samantalang ang kanyang asawa ay kinHala sa larangan ng panulaan. • Ang dalawang nobelang nasulat niya na nalathala sa Amerika ay ang A Wath in the Night na binigyan ng bagong pamagat na Cry Havoc at ang More Then Conquerors. • Isa siya sa mga manunulat na may malaking pagpapahalaga sa moralidad at integridad. Naniniwala siyang upang mapanatili ang integridad sa sarili, kailangan ang ibayong pagpapakasakit. •
  • 3. CHARACTERS • Minggay awok • Round character (Antagonist) • She was speculated as the witch in the story and she was blamed for all the unfortunate Incidents that happened in their place. • The boy • Flat character (protagonist) • He has portrayed in the story as an obedient and a dutiful lad. He was easily affected by the rumors sorrounding him, to the point of almost believing them without reasonable proofs. • Tio sabelo • The head teacher of the barrio school
  • 4. SETTING • Barrio of Libas ( Southern Leyte, PH )
  • 5. PLOT SYNOPSIS • Meanwhile, Minggay lived in a small low hut by the bank of the creek isolating the barrios of Libas from Sinitan.People didn’t know what precisely inside her house. Therefore, one man who crowed of having gone inside her house while she is out in her clearing on a hill. According to the man, he had seen dirty stoppered bottles hanging from the bamboo strips of the cogon roof. The man said that some of the bottles contained insects like scorpions, centipedes, beetles, bumble bees, and many more. In the next morning, the boy decided to catch a fish in the river to bring for his mother. On the silence, a boy didn’t observe that someone is looking at him out there. A woman who about fifty years of age who makes laundry in her things. When the boy has a poor catching of a fish, a woman told the boy in surprise to go over the river and there he can find many fish, crabs and shrimps.The old woman was not wrong, without the knowledge of the boy, though he is afraid of Minggay, the boy perfectly catch many shrimps. After catching, he went back to the old woman and thanking her. But when the woman introduced herself, that she is Minggay Awok, the boy started to fear of her. He then goes away from the river and when he is far away from Minggay, he run away and stop. As he walked again, the string of shrimps kept brushing again the side of his leg. So he detached it from his belt except for the three small ones because those are not belonged to Minggay. Angrily, he hurled those shrimps back in the river.
  • 6. THE PLOT DIAGRAM • Exposition • In the barrio of Libas, the boy was just 12 years old and he goes there in the river and he found an old lady and that was the called Witch named Minggay Awok. • Rising action • That is when the town have a problem they blame the witch named Minggay just because she is a witch • Climax • When the guy comes in Minggay Awok's house and found out that it have many bottles that have different bugs. • Falling action • The old woman was not wrong, but without the knwoledge of the boy, though he is afraid of minggay, he perfectly catch many q. After learning that the old woman is Minggay Awok. • Resolution • He then goes away from the river and when he is far away from Minggay, he run away and stop. As he walked again, the string of shrimps kept brushing again the side of his leg. So he detached it from his belt except for the three small ones because those are not belonged to Minggay. Angrily, he hurled those shrimps back in the river.
  • 7. TYPES OF CONFLICTS • Man Vs Man • The type of conflict in "The Witch" by Edilberto K Tiempo is Man Vs. Man. Because it's all about the witch, also called as awok in the place of southern Leyte. Minggay was known as one of them, Minggay was so popular even 5 sitios beyond Limbas.
  • 8. THEME • The theme of the story Not all we see, touch, hear is true, we cant judge a thing or idea that only see by our eyes. We also cant just believe a story that was just said by people without a prove even it is popular or not. Proving, explaining an idea is not a bad thing, as long as we dont hurt, affect someone's feeling and as long as we have enough data, proves that we can relay on.
  • 9. SIMBOLISM Book When the antagonis accuse that she is a witch but she’s not, she is a good old woman and she have a big heart.
  • 10. POINT OF VIEW • The narator (protagonist) • He is narrating about what he experiences when go to barrio of libas in southern leyte and seeing and talking to the witch.
