This is a presentation of what corporates and organizations can do for Sukarya - an NGO working in health and women economic empowerment in the Joy of Giving week. The Joy of Giving Week is India's "Festival of Giving"! Launched in 2009, the festival is celebrated every year, in the week including Gandhi Jayanti, i.e., October 2-8, and brings together Indians from all walks of life, to celebrate "giving". You organization can help us through any of the following options: 1) Donate one day salary , 2) Give a part, say, a percentage of your sales campaigns. That is to say that your Company gives a %age of your sales/unit sold to Sukarya. This campaign can be run for a week or month. Week 2 to 8 October or the whole October 3) Allow a Wish Tree to be put up in your office. 4) Participate in the India Giving Challenge organized by Give India 5) Organize a fund raising event 6) Allow a Sukarya Spice and Cereal stall to be put up in your office. These masalas are produced by the women under our economic empowerment of women programme and the proceeds will be used to strengthen the Self Help Groups. After all, a little help from you can make a big difference in the life of someone else.

Access is still a big problem
According to the National Commission on Macroeconomics and Health, an
average villager has to travel for at least 2 kms to get a tablet of
paracetamol, over 6 kms for a blood test and 20
kms for hospital care.
- Services that are available remain un-utilised
- Women suffer the maximum
- Maternal mortality is high
59 % of women have had no postnatal check up at all. Non
skilled birth attendants continue to conduct 1/3rd of
all births and only 39 per cent births take place in health facilities.
70% of pregnant women continue
to suffer from iron deficiency.

15. The India Giving Challenge provides a way for NGOs to
raise even more money for their cause through a matching
grant from Give India.
Corporates and NGOs will raise funds online by reaching
out to their employees, customers, vendors, partners and
supporters who in turn will reach out to their friends and
families thus building a community approach to fundraising.

16. The corporate can have a JGW „WISH
TREE‟ put up in the lobby / canteen with
Wish Cards from Sukarya.
Example: Medicine for 1 patient - Rs. 50/-,
Nutrition supplement for an anaemic
person for 15 days Rs. 250/- etc.
The wish cards are in the range of Rs.
100 to 500. The corporate can promote
the concept through various intra-media
available and encourage employees to
pick one card and participate in the
„Festival of Giving‟. The more cards get
picked up, the more they get replaced by
JGW Smiley‟s, henceforth referred to as
Wish Fruit („WF‟), and the fruitier the tree
looks and shows how many people are
committing
to the cause.

20. Formed in 1998, Sukarya, is a non-
governmental organization working on
issues of Maternal and Child
Health, Primary Health Care and
Economic Empowerment of Women in
Delhi and Haryana.

21. WHAT WE DO
• Have been working with underprivileged men, women and
children since 1998.
• Have reached over one lakh women and children with
maternal and reproductive health care, immunizations and
health awareness sessions.
• We work to ensure that women and children are well
nourished and protected from common illness because it is
wrong for them to die because of diseases that could be
prevented
• We build awareness about key health issues and focus on
overcoming barriers that constrain women, children and
adolescents in seeking timely medical help.
