Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to know about the collection development policies and the users’
views about various aspects of their respective libraries’ functioning like working hours,
collection, services, staff, space available for seating, etc. It was also intended to know their
suggestions about any improvement, change required in the existing library functioning and
services. This study investigates existing collection in NIT libraries and trends of collection
development being followed in the changing environment. Besides collection and services, the
study also touches the other aspects of the library, i.e., finance, staff and the user’s impact
both directly and indirectly on building up of an adequate and efficient library collection and
also on the services provided by libraries.

INTRODUCTION
Knowledge is power and libraries are the
reservoirs of this power manifest in books and
other reading materials. NIT library is a
storehouse of knowledge. It is an axiomatic
truth that a library cannot function without an
appropriate collection. The efficiency of the
library services is governed largely by the
quantity and quality of its collection. It
preserves and disseminates knowledge among
the educated people and all reading and
research activities are radiated from the
library. Library collections are measured not
only in terms of number but also in terms of
their value and utility to the clientele.
Definition
1. David H. Stam, borrowing from Rene
Dubos, urges us to “think globally and act
locally” in developing collections. He
observed that all libraries are linked in a
great chain access.
2. Harrods’s Librarian’s Glossary 6th edition
defines as “the process of planning a stock
acquisition programme not simply to cater
for immediate needs but to liquid a
coherent and reliable collection over a
number of years, to meet the objectives of
the services”.
3. Shipman “Building a collection may
occasionally involve a selection and
acquisition of materials in most cases. It is
likely to mean the planned systematic
development of an already existing
collection”.
COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT
Collection development focuses on the
building of library collections, ideally
following guidelines already established and
articulated in the libraries written collection
development policy. It is a concept that fits
most happily during times of expansion and
financial prosperity, and one which has tended
to be associated primarily with libraries with
large research collections. Although this term
is sometimes used synonymously with the
term collection management, the two are not
identical [1].
COLLECTION MANAGEMENT
Collection management encompasses the
activities concerned with the selection and
acquisition of library materials, sometimes
described as collection development bit goes
beyond this; it also includes the systematic
maintenance of a library’s collection, covering
resource allocation, technical processing,

What Librarian’s Think of Theft, Mutilation and
Misplacement of Library Resources? A Study of
Karnataka University Libraries
Jagadish M.V.*, P. Sarasvathy
Department of Studies in Library and Information Science, University of Mysore, Mysore,
Karnataka, India
Abstract
Library is a place of study such as quite peace full and safe for learning and research
activities, libraries are spirit of the academic institution and it plays a vital role by providing
knowledge to the people without any bias. But some selfish users are doing the unlawful
activities such as theft, mutilation and misplacement of library resources in library. The
present study focused on librarian response towards theft, mutilation and misplacement of
library resources in university libraries in Karnataka. The study found that more than seventy
percent of the librarians have felt that illegal incidences at the university libraries such as
theft, mutilation and misplacement of library materials have become serious problems. Even
previous studies have identified illegal acts in the library; it has still persisted and has
negatively impacted the academic spirit of the library.

INTRODUCTION
Libraries in academic institutions has regarded
as one of the important space for enrichment
of knowledge. Even it is called as the heart of
the institution. As the function of heart is
essential for the wellbeing of the human body,
the good and well organized library is
important for the good functioning of
academic institutions. The growth and the
development of the libraries depends internal
interest in its developments from the parents
institutions (Infrastructural supports, man
power and collection development) on the
other hand external interest mainly its
utilization, following rules and regulations of
the libraries for its longevity from users side is
also important for its maintenance and
development.
But illegal incidences in libraries mainly theft,
mutilation and misplacement have often been
reported in the library literature has shown that
illegal incidences effects both libraries and
users equally in terms of providing access to
required material and using library resources
without any hindrances to the fullest. The
review literature part of the study shows how
serious theft, mutilation and misplacement of
library resources in libraries. Many of the
studies that have been found in scholarly
literature on this subject looked at how library
users are affecting from illegal incidences in
libraries [1, 2, 3]. There is very little research
from the librarian’s perspective with regard to
theft, mutilation and misplacement of library
resources.
Here in this study we have attempted to
address this issue from the librarian’s
perspective of what libraries specifically
university libraries think of these problems,
how seriously it affects the administrator and
library users, and also what measures can
prevent these problems?
DEFINITIONS OF CONCEPT
Theft
According to Tata Rao [4], Theft refers to the
purposefully remove of material from the
library without checking it out, it implies
either instant it keep the material for an
indefinite of time.

Abstract
The library is a growing organism it demands highly skilled and experienced library and
information science (LIS) professionals to fulfil needs of the user and for information
management. It is also very important for the professionals to satisfy their own needs because
only satisfied professionals can provide innovative services to the end user. In this article, we
analyse the various literature related to the job satisfaction of LIS professionals and
highlighted important information.

INTRODUCTION
The idea that organisation competes through
people highlights the fact that achieving
success increasingly depends on an
organization’s ability to manage talent or
human resources. The human resource
describes the economic value of employee’s
knowledge, skills, and capabilities. It has a
tremendous impact on an organisation’s
performance [1]. To build healthy human
resources in any kind of organisations,
management must continue to develop
superior knowledge, skills and experience
within their workforces and retain and
promote to performers to get best out from
them and train the non-performers to do better
in future.
Job satisfaction is very important for both to
the employee and employer. It influences the
degree of performance of the employee. Job
satisfaction is the favourableness or
unfavourableness with which employees view
their work. It expresses the amount of
consonance between one’s expectations of the
job and the rewards that the job provides. One
of the elements that are assessable is the
employees’ performance through the level of
their productivity. This includes the quality,
quantity, knowledge or creativity of individual
towards the accomplished works that are in
accordance with the responsibility during a
specified period. However job stress,
motivation, and communication do
simultaneously affect the employees’
performance.
JOB SATISFACTION
Job satisfaction is a person’s attitude towards
the job. Job satisfaction is also an emotional
response to a job situation which cannot be
seen, it is only be inferred and simply how
the people feel about their job and different
aspects of it. Jobs are multi-dimensional. The
size, nature and aim of an organization, its
technology and administrative procedures, the
whole environment of location, pay facilities
and fellow workers all come together to
produce for each job a unique profile of tasks,
conditions and rewards. There is an
enormous range of possible interactions
between people and job.
Positive attitudes towards the job are
equivalent to job satisfaction whereas
negative attitudes towards the job are
equivalent to job dissatisfaction. Job
satisfaction represents a complex assemblage
of cognitions, emotions, and behavioural
tendencies. It also correlates certain
characteristics such as age, education, length
of employment, performance, salary, abilities,
marital status and sex with the satisfied-
dissatisfied dichotomy.

Need of Library Automation
Wilson Kumar*
Librarian, Haryana Engineering College, Jagadhri, Yamuna Nagar, Haryana, India
Abstract
Library automation has developed in the industrialized world over the last 25 years and
progress in developing countries cannot be separated from trends worldwide. However, there
are different criteria for success in developing countries, which are brought out in this review.
Open source has been hailed as a solution to the economic problems, but there are still
organizational problems to be surmounted. There is also the possibility to develop one’s own
system. Internet bandwidth will improve in developing countries and open source may prove
useful but economics may not improve and power supply problems are likely to remain.
Keywords: Library, automation, countries, acquisition
INTRODUCTION
Automating a library is the process, which
restructures its functions and reinvents its
services. By keeping a database as the basis,
automation converge new technologies of
information storage and retrieval with
traditional housekeeping operations. An
automated library can serve the teaching and
learning community more effectively. A
reduction in the time needed for routine
operations can be utilized to give customized
services to the users. The process of library
automation has a short history in our country.
It needs proper planning and active
implementation.
DEFINITION OF LIBRARY
AUTOMATION
Library automation may be defined as the
application of computers to perform traditional
library housekeeping activities such as
acquisition, circulation, cataloguing, and
reference and serials control [1]. Automation
is used to reduce the amount of staff time
devoted to repetitive activities that must be
done in any properly functioning library. It is
to be remembering that, various library
operations are automated, not the library as
such.
HISTORY OF LIBRARY
AUTOMATION
Punched cards were invented by Hollerith in
1880 and used in tabulating the US census
data. The library at the University of Texas
was perhaps the first to use punched cards in
1936 for circulation control. The Library of
congress used the unit record machines for the
production of catalogues in 1950. Many
libraries in the US followed the system for
automating their activities. Library automation
entered into its second era in 1960s with the
advent of computers. The notable ventures
were MEDLARS, MARC, etc. Until the early
1990s, “automating the library” involved
generally the same features as those in place
since the advent of machine readable
cataloguing record in the late 1960s. Libraries
created integrated text based systems using
micro/mini computers in which traditional
library housekeeping operations were
computerized using the library’s database as
the foundation.
In the last decade, library automation has
undergone a transformation that reflects
changing definitions of library service in
general and access to resources in particular.
The introduction of global networking such as
internet, cheap availability of technology and
new media technologies made information
more accessible. Today’s integrated library
systems must not only provide modules which
automate traditional library functions but also
capable of connecting through the local systems
into systems of other information or knowledge
suppliers, databases and internet [2].

Abstract
The study focuses on the automation process in the BGS Institute of Technology, BG Nagara.
Library automation is very important task for engineering college libraries, today is
information technology era, we update to advance technologies in field of library and
information science, major automation areas and outline the various factors needed to be
considered by the librarians while doing automation work for their respective libraries. We
have been using NewGenLib library management software in central library; successfully
completed bar coding work for 30000 volumes of books, and have successfully completed
library automation work.
Keywords: Library automation, engineering colleges, BGS institute of technology, central
library, NewGenLib
INTRODUCTION
The main aim of BGS institute of technology
central library is to provide access to proper
information, to the right users in as possible as
short time. In an environment of information
explosion, due to growing demands of the user
and shrinking of financial resources, library is
not able to get all the study materials on needs.
The only way to overcome this problem is
resources sharing thorough networking.
The development of library services in
engineering college libraries to cover advances
of branch of knowledge include planning for
acquisition, use of information management
techniques, use of new technologies and
regular updating etc. BGSIT central library is
fully automated and is using advance
technologies for users.
LITERATURE REVIEW
The review of related studies is an essential
part of any investigation. The related studies
are a crucial aspect of the planning of any
study. A literature review is an account of
previously published material by experts and
researchers in the particular area of interest. It
gives the author an opportunity to refer
previous research publications to provide
strengths and weaknesses of the research.
Azeez focuses on TKMCE library automation
system; the system provides an overall
perspective of the functions and the package is
user-friendly and menu driven [1]. Special
efforts have been made during the design and
development stage to ensure data integrity and
security. This project was done at the TKM
college of engineering, Kollam, Kerala, using
Visual Basic 6.0 as front end and MS Access
7.0 as back end, under Windows 98
environment. Mulla and Chandrashekara
examined the effective use of web online
public access catalogue (Web-OPAC) in
engineering college libraries in Karnataka [2].
Understanding the importance of knowing
various search facilities available on effective
use of integrated library software packages

Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to determine the materials cited in zoology literature during the
year 2005–2014. Data were extracted from Web of Science (on-line version database)
database. The study reveals that distribution of citations for document type, language wise
distribution of citations and country wise distribution of citations. Further the study also lists
out the most productivity journals in the area of zoology literature. The analysis of the results
shows that out of 5332 citations, research articles (74.81%) contribute the highest number of
citations and it is the most preferred sources of information used by researchers in the area of
zoology. The USA (33.75%) is the most cited country in the world and the English language
(98.59%) is the most preferred language in the world. Bradford’s law well fitted into the given
data set for the present study. Finally, it can be concluded that, The Significant research
activity is being taking place in the field of zoology and it is one of the emerging research field
in the biological sciences.
Keywords: Zoology literature, citation analysis, journal ranking, Bradford’s law of scattering,

INTRODUCTION
Journals are no doubt the most preferred
source of information in any field of research
due to the nascent information that they carry
and faster delivery of research output. But the
increasing subscription rates and budget
constraints forcing libraries to select and
subscribe only the popular journals from the
huge number of journals published in different
subject fields. Bibliometrics and citation
analysis have emerged as the important tools
for selection of popular journals in any area of
research or subject. As Zafrunnisha (2012) [1]
explains, bibliometric techniques are being
used for a variety of purposes such as
determination of various scientific indicators,
evaluation of scientific output, selection of
journals for libraries and even forecasting the
potential of a particular field. Anyi et al.
(2009) [2] are of the opinion that bibliometric
analysis of single journal creates the portrait of
that journal and indicates the quality, maturity
and productivity of the journal in any field, in
a country or region. It also informs us about
the research orientation that it supports to
disseminate and its influence on author’s
choice as a channel to communicate or retrieve
information for their research needs.
Zoology is the aspect of science that deals with
the study of the animals' evolution, habitat and
behaviour. It is also concerned with every
level of biological organization from the gene
to the ecosystem, and with the structure,
physiology, behaviour, genetics, development,
distribution, and evolution of animals in all
taxonomic groups. In a broad sense, zoology
also deals with the interrelationships between
humans and other animals. There is ample
scope for students to obtain a broad education
in zoology. It is a wide field offering many
career opportunities for research, especially
because there still is a great deal to learn about
it. In this subject field research is increasing
day by day. There is huge amount of
information resources are available in the field
of zoology. This has led to the explosion of
information. Hence, selecting the appropriate
periodicals can be a challenging job. As such it
is necessary to find a solution to tackle with
the growth of literature and changing needs of
the users. To take a right decision in this

This study investigates existing collection in NIT libraries and trends of collection development being followed in the changing environment. Besides collection and services, the study also touches the other aspects of the library, i.e., finance, staff and the user’s impact both directly and indirectly on building up of an adequate and efficient library collection and also on the services provided by libraries. Keywords: Public library, user satisfaction, state central library, library services INTRODUCTION Knowledge is power and libraries are the reservoirs of this power manifest in books and other reading materials. NIT library is a storehouse of knowledge. It is an axiomatic truth that a library cannot function without an appropriate collection. The efficiency of the library services is governed largely by the quantity and quality of its collection. It preserves and disseminates knowledge among the educated people and all reading and research activities are radiated from the library. Library collections are measured not only in terms of number but also in terms of their value and utility to the clientele. Definition 1. David H. Stam, borrowing from Rene Dubos, urges us to “think globally and act locally” in developing collections. He observed that all libraries are linked in a great chain access. 2. Harrods’s Librarian’s Glossary 6th edition defines as “the process of planning a stock acquisition programme not simply to cater for immediate needs but to liquid a coherent and reliable collection over a number of years, to meet the objectives of the services”. 3. Shipman “Building a collection may occasionally involve a selection and acquisition of materials in most cases. It is likely to mean the planned systematic development of an already existing collection”. COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT Collection development focuses on the building of library collections, ideally following guidelines already established and articulated in the libraries written collection development policy. It is a concept that fits most happily during times of expansion and financial prosperity, and one which has tended to be associated primarily with libraries with large research collections. Although this term is sometimes used synonymously with the term collection management, the two are not identical [1]. COLLECTION MANAGEMENT Collection management encompasses the activities concerned with the selection and acquisition of library materials, sometimes described as collection development bit goes beyond this; it also includes the systematic maintenance of a library’s collection, covering resource allocation, technical processing,

All Rights Reserved Page 7 Journal of Advancements in Library Sciences ISSN: 2349-4352(online) Volume 3, Issue 3 www.stmjournals.com What Librarian’s Think of Theft, Mutilation and Misplacement of Library Resources? A Study of Karnataka University Libraries Jagadish M.V.*, P. Sarasvathy Department of Studies in Library and Information Science, University of Mysore, Mysore, Karnataka, India Abstract Library is a place of study such as quite peace full and safe for learning and research activities, libraries are spirit of the academic institution and it plays a vital role by providing knowledge to the people without any bias. But some selfish users are doing the unlawful activities such as theft, mutilation and misplacement of library resources in library. The present study focused on librarian response towards theft, mutilation and misplacement of library resources in university libraries in Karnataka. The study found that more than seventy percent of the librarians have felt that illegal incidences at the university libraries such as theft, mutilation and misplacement of library materials have become serious problems. Even previous studies have identified illegal acts in the library; it has still persisted and has negatively impacted the academic spirit of the library. Keywords: Theft, Mutilation, Misplacement, Illegal incidences, University Libraries, Karnataka INTRODUCTION Libraries in academic institutions has regarded as one of the important space for enrichment of knowledge. Even it is called as the heart of the institution. As the function of heart is essential for the wellbeing of the human body, the good and well organized library is important for the good functioning of academic institutions. The growth and the development of the libraries depends internal interest in its developments from the parents institutions (Infrastructural supports, man power and collection development) on the other hand external interest mainly its utilization, following rules and regulations of the libraries for its longevity from users side is also important for its maintenance and development. But illegal incidences in libraries mainly theft, mutilation and misplacement have often been reported in the library literature has shown that illegal incidences effects both libraries and users equally in terms of providing access to required material and using library resources without any hindrances to the fullest. The review literature part of the study shows how serious theft, mutilation and misplacement of library resources in libraries. Many of the studies that have been found in scholarly literature on this subject looked at how library users are affecting from illegal incidences in libraries [1, 2, 3]. There is very little research from the librarian’s perspective with regard to theft, mutilation and misplacement of library resources. Here in this study we have attempted to address this issue from the librarian’s perspective of what libraries specifically university libraries think of these problems, how seriously it affects the administrator and library users, and also what measures can prevent these problems? DEFINITIONS OF CONCEPT Theft According to Tata Rao [4], Theft refers to the purposefully remove of material from the library without checking it out, it implies either instant it keep the material for an indefinite of time.

Bellary1, *, Ramesh R. Naik2 1 Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies, Vile Parle (W), Mumbai, Maharashtra, India 2 Department of Library and Information Science, Karnatak University, Dharwad, Karnataka, India Abstract The library is a growing organism it demands highly skilled and experienced library and information science (LIS) professionals to fulfil needs of the user and for information management. It is also very important for the professionals to satisfy their own needs because only satisfied professionals can provide innovative services to the end user. In this article, we analyse the various literature related to the job satisfaction of LIS professionals and highlighted important information. Keywords: Library, LIS professionals, job satisfaction, literature study, experts view INTRODUCTION The idea that organisation competes through people highlights the fact that achieving success increasingly depends on an organization’s ability to manage talent or human resources. The human resource describes the economic value of employee’s knowledge, skills, and capabilities. It has a tremendous impact on an organisation’s performance [1]. To build healthy human resources in any kind of organisations, management must continue to develop superior knowledge, skills and experience within their workforces and retain and promote to performers to get best out from them and train the non-performers to do better in future. Job satisfaction is very important for both to the employee and employer. It influences the degree of performance of the employee. Job satisfaction is the favourableness or unfavourableness with which employees view their work. It expresses the amount of consonance between one’s expectations of the job and the rewards that the job provides. One of the elements that are assessable is the employees’ performance through the level of their productivity. This includes the quality, quantity, knowledge or creativity of individual towards the accomplished works that are in accordance with the responsibility during a specified period. However job stress, motivation, and communication do simultaneously affect the employees’ performance. JOB SATISFACTION Job satisfaction is a person’s attitude towards the job. Job satisfaction is also an emotional response to a job situation which cannot be seen, it is only be inferred and simply how the people feel about their job and different aspects of it. Jobs are multi-dimensional. The size, nature and aim of an organization, its technology and administrative procedures, the whole environment of location, pay facilities and fellow workers all come together to produce for each job a unique profile of tasks, conditions and rewards. There is an enormous range of possible interactions between people and job. Positive attitudes towards the job are equivalent to job satisfaction whereas negative attitudes towards the job are equivalent to job dissatisfaction. Job satisfaction represents a complex assemblage of cognitions, emotions, and behavioural tendencies. It also correlates certain characteristics such as age, education, length of employment, performance, salary, abilities, marital status and sex with the satisfied- dissatisfied dichotomy.

However, there are different criteria for success in developing countries, which are brought out in this review. Open source has been hailed as a solution to the economic problems, but there are still organizational problems to be surmounted. There is also the possibility to develop one’s own system. Internet bandwidth will improve in developing countries and open source may prove useful but economics may not improve and power supply problems are likely to remain. Keywords: Library, automation, countries, acquisition INTRODUCTION Automating a library is the process, which restructures its functions and reinvents its services. By keeping a database as the basis, automation converge new technologies of information storage and retrieval with traditional housekeeping operations. An automated library can serve the teaching and learning community more effectively. A reduction in the time needed for routine operations can be utilized to give customized services to the users. The process of library automation has a short history in our country. It needs proper planning and active implementation. DEFINITION OF LIBRARY AUTOMATION Library automation may be defined as the application of computers to perform traditional library housekeeping activities such as acquisition, circulation, cataloguing, and reference and serials control [1]. Automation is used to reduce the amount of staff time devoted to repetitive activities that must be done in any properly functioning library. It is to be remembering that, various library operations are automated, not the library as such. HISTORY OF LIBRARY AUTOMATION Punched cards were invented by Hollerith in 1880 and used in tabulating the US census data. The library at the University of Texas was perhaps the first to use punched cards in 1936 for circulation control. The Library of congress used the unit record machines for the production of catalogues in 1950. Many libraries in the US followed the system for automating their activities. Library automation entered into its second era in 1960s with the advent of computers. The notable ventures were MEDLARS, MARC, etc. Until the early 1990s, “automating the library” involved generally the same features as those in place since the advent of machine readable cataloguing record in the late 1960s. Libraries created integrated text based systems using micro/mini computers in which traditional library housekeeping operations were computerized using the library’s database as the foundation. In the last decade, library automation has undergone a transformation that reflects changing definitions of library service in general and access to resources in particular. The introduction of global networking such as internet, cheap availability of technology and new media technologies made information more accessible. Today’s integrated library systems must not only provide modules which automate traditional library functions but also capable of connecting through the local systems into systems of other information or knowledge suppliers, databases and internet [2].

Library automation is very important task for engineering college libraries, today is information technology era, we update to advance technologies in field of library and information science, major automation areas and outline the various factors needed to be considered by the librarians while doing automation work for their respective libraries. We have been using NewGenLib library management software in central library; successfully completed bar coding work for 30000 volumes of books, and have successfully completed library automation work. Keywords: Library automation, engineering colleges, BGS institute of technology, central library, NewGenLib INTRODUCTION The main aim of BGS institute of technology central library is to provide access to proper information, to the right users in as possible as short time. In an environment of information explosion, due to growing demands of the user and shrinking of financial resources, library is not able to get all the study materials on needs. The only way to overcome this problem is resources sharing thorough networking. The development of library services in engineering college libraries to cover advances of branch of knowledge include planning for acquisition, use of information management techniques, use of new technologies and regular updating etc. BGSIT central library is fully automated and is using advance technologies for users. LITERATURE REVIEW The review of related studies is an essential part of any investigation. The related studies are a crucial aspect of the planning of any study. A literature review is an account of previously published material by experts and researchers in the particular area of interest. It gives the author an opportunity to refer previous research publications to provide strengths and weaknesses of the research. Azeez focuses on TKMCE library automation system; the system provides an overall perspective of the functions and the package is user-friendly and menu driven [1]. Special efforts have been made during the design and development stage to ensure data integrity and security. This project was done at the TKM college of engineering, Kollam, Kerala, using Visual Basic 6.0 as front end and MS Access 7.0 as back end, under Windows 98 environment. Mulla and Chandrashekara examined the effective use of web online public access catalogue (Web-OPAC) in engineering college libraries in Karnataka [2]. Understanding the importance of knowing various search facilities available on effective use of integrated library software packages and their services, the engineering college libraries have started using advanced information technology in providing services to the users. Mulla and Chandrashekara have highlighted the Indian library automation. Many studies on library automation have been undertaken in the developed countries [3]. It gives a status on

Data were extracted from Web of Science (on-line version database) database. The study reveals that distribution of citations for document type, language wise distribution of citations and country wise distribution of citations. Further the study also lists out the most productivity journals in the area of zoology literature. The analysis of the results shows that out of 5332 citations, research articles (74.81%) contribute the highest number of citations and it is the most preferred sources of information used by researchers in the area of zoology. The USA (33.75%) is the most cited country in the world and the English language (98.59%) is the most preferred language in the world. Bradford’s law well fitted into the given data set for the present study. Finally, it can be concluded that, The Significant research activity is being taking place in the field of zoology and it is one of the emerging research field in the biological sciences. Keywords: Zoology literature, citation analysis, journal ranking, Bradford’s law of scattering, half-life, KS-test INTRODUCTION Journals are no doubt the most preferred source of information in any field of research due to the nascent information that they carry and faster delivery of research output. But the increasing subscription rates and budget constraints forcing libraries to select and subscribe only the popular journals from the huge number of journals published in different subject fields. Bibliometrics and citation analysis have emerged as the important tools for selection of popular journals in any area of research or subject. As Zafrunnisha (2012) [1] explains, bibliometric techniques are being used for a variety of purposes such as determination of various scientific indicators, evaluation of scientific output, selection of journals for libraries and even forecasting the potential of a particular field. Anyi et al. (2009) [2] are of the opinion that bibliometric analysis of single journal creates the portrait of that journal and indicates the quality, maturity and productivity of the journal in any field, in a country or region. It also informs us about the research orientation that it supports to disseminate and its influence on author’s choice as a channel to communicate or retrieve information for their research needs. Zoology is the aspect of science that deals with the study of the animals' evolution, habitat and behaviour. It is also concerned with every level of biological organization from the gene to the ecosystem, and with the structure, physiology, behaviour, genetics, development, distribution, and evolution of animals in all taxonomic groups. In a broad sense, zoology also deals with the interrelationships between humans and other animals. There is ample scope for students to obtain a broad education in zoology. It is a wide field offering many career opportunities for research, especially because there still is a great deal to learn about it. In this subject field research is increasing day by day. There is huge amount of information resources are available in the field of zoology. This has led to the explosion of information. Hence, selecting the appropriate periodicals can be a challenging job. As such it is necessary to find a solution to tackle with the growth of literature and changing needs of the users. To take a right decision in this
