Descriptive Essay On Buying A Car
Car/Firechicken
I always had dreamed of buying my own muscle car in high school. After I got my license, I would
shop every day trying to find one that was affordable, and fast. I never could find the right one until
one day while I was at a family gathering, my Dad asked his cousin, Neil if he had any older cars
around the farm that were for sale.
Neil said, I have the one for you.
A 1982 Pontiac Firebird.
It is not pretty, but it was fast , Neil said.
A few months passed, while we figured out a time to go look at this car. Finally the day came. On the
way there I was imagining this car to look amazing. My dad was trying to talk me out of buying this
car and waiting to find a different one instead.
We arrived and sure enough, I got my hopes crushed, It was an ugly green color. We looked it over
anyway and Neil took me for a ride in the car. During the test ride he hit the throttle around the corner
and we slid sideways. I was sold. This car was quick. I was going to buy this project car no matter
what it took. We gave him $500, loaded the car up on the trailer, and we headed back home. A few
weeks passed before we started working on the car. We attacked all the cars issues, getting it to run
smoothly. We were able to keep the engine cool by adding dual electric fans. We found a set of used
tires to put on it. The tires were not the right offset, so the rear tires stuck out about two inches on each
side. I eventually started to drive it on the streets and all over

... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Incarceration of African American Males Essay
Introduction
The trend of African American males between the ages of 25 and 29 has seen a dramatic increase of
incarceration. Attention has been focusing on areas of housing, education, and healthcare but the most
prominent problem for African American males is the increase in the incarceration rate. African
American males between the ages of 25 and 29 incarceration rate has been thought, by many, to be
caused by economic factors such as under employment or unemployment, poor housing, lack of
education, and lack of healthcare. Yet, others believe it is due to the imbalance of minorities within the
criminal justice system, such as judges, lawyers, and lawmakers.
This paper will explore two different outlooks; society has come up with ... Show more content on

Decades of failed public and private remedies for chronic disparities and disadvantages in
communities of color invite us to reexamine systems and institutions that provide and restrict
opportunity in new ways (Lawrence, K., 2011). The causes seem to be intertwined being poor equals,
equals a poor education, equals lack of employment, and ultimately equals an increased rate of crime.
Consequences
The causes seem to be intertwined being poor, equals lack of education, which equals lack of
employment, which equals increased rate of crime which equals impossibility to join criminal justice
system. Also, many of these men are incarcerated while all the other non incarcerated American young
men are finishing school, starting careers, earning seniority at work, marrying and having children
thus gaining capital. Even when released from prison, these men return back to their communities with
a felony record that will pose extreme problems for them. The incarceration leads the released convict
into a lower social class even if they were considered lower class Americans prior to their
incarceration; they now are lower in social class standing in most instances. This leads to a poor
African American community, perhaps as many as 50% of the male population will have been in
prison. These incarcerated African American Males, who are in their prime of life,

Life In My Life
Life is 10% what happens to is and 90% how we react to it said Dennis p. Kimbro. The lives of most
people are not always perfect and probably never will be; and that s ok because having a life with its
ups and downs is absolutely normal and ok. My life has had all of its up and downs and still does. I m
pretty sure most people or maybe just a few can relate to the kind of things that have shaped me into
the person I am today. Some may be bad or good experiences or people that have made any person
they are today. It might be surprising to some people how much in common we have just by looking
into our similar life changing experiences and encounters. These kind of events or people can make
you into the person you are today and give you the personality that you think fits you best. Being in
touch with God and my faith has really shaped me into the strong and independent person I am today,
also going through depression and having a child at a young age has made me stronger as well.
Not many people seem to fully understand how real depression is and how serious these feelings can
be. But I do in dealing with depression, medication, and surviving suicide attempts. I can discuss my
experiences truthfully and clearly. I remember the first time I thought of suicide. I thought of different
ways to do it, when and where. The days would be endless when I was depressed. I felt like a piece of
trash that was always getting stepped on or not seen. The mental institution I stayed at was so cold and
dull. Every day I would wake up and hear the screams and cries of other children, some younger than
me; They would beg to go home and cry saying i want to go home...let me see my mommy! I was
constantly reminded of this situation every time I looked down at my wrist and arms. Cuts and bruises
everywhere. Some from the doctors who constantly took out my blood or put stuff inside me, and
some caused by myself. I did not see this as getting help at first, i felt like i was in prison. I felt like i
was in trouble for what i had done. During my time of depression, i constantly felt alone. I was scared
all the time and feared the thoughts of being alone forever. This time in my life has really shaped me
into the kind or strong and

Volunteer Spirit Research Paper
The volunteer spirit, in essence, is a feeling of pride that I have for having the opportunity to attend
the University of Tennessee. It means embracing the traditions, the history, and especially the color
orange. The volunteer spirit is the pride that you see at every football game in all the students, alumni,
and other fans that are yelling Rocky Top as loud as they can. It is the sense of wonder you can see in
the students expanding their horizons and working to learn so that they can make their mark on the
world and improve it. The volunteer spirit is something that is different for everyone. It is a different
experience for every student; however, it stems from one thing, a love for the University of Tennessee.

I want to take challenging courses, attend sporting events, join clubs, and just get involved in whatever
ways I can. I want to have the best experience I can in college and I can only do that through leaving
my comfort zone and trying out everything that Tennessee has to offer. I am going to stud hard so that
I can use the knowledge that I gain at Tennessee to build a life for myself and hopefully, I can impact
the world. This is not an easy task; however, I believe that the University of Tennessee has the
resources and professors that will allow me to accomplish this. I plan to completely accept the spirit of
the campus when I arrive and to branch out so that I can become a well rounded person and so that I
can expand my knowledge as much as possible. In the end, I think that the volunteer spirit boils down
to the love and pride that I, and many others, have for UT. It is this love that causes us to cheer for it
no matter what, and even to wear orange despite it not matching with anything. It is a desire to have
the full experience while attending the University and learning all you can from it. It is making the
most of your years at the University of Tennessee and asking sure that you get involved and make
strong, lasting friendships. The volunteer spirit is different for everyone, and everyone can interpret it
differently; however,

The Greek Gods And Goddesses
Many greek gods and goddesses possess paradoxical characteristics. This makes some of them
hypocritical and others well rounded. Artemis shows her versatility through her two sided role as an
influential women in society and her opposite qualities apparent during acts of mass destruction.
Artemis was born to Zeus, God of lighting, and titan Leto along with her twin brother Apollo
(Hamilton 31). Right as Leto was about to give birth, she was prohibited by Hera, Zeus s jealous
primary suitor, from having the children where the sun could reach her. To avoid upsetting Hera, Zeus
took Leto to a floating island shielded from the sun by a wave. Leto had the babies there because
technically she was not on any ground where the sun was showing (Wickersham 1:60). Artemis is the
huntress of the gods. She maintains adolescence s safety and values virginity highly. She is also called
Diana in Roman Mythology (Wickersham 1:59). The cypress is her holy tree and deer are especially
holy to her in addition to her passion for all wild creatures (Hamilton 32). She is characterized as
...lover of the woods and the wild chase over the mountains, (Hamilton 31). Artemis was a strong
female from the beginning. She and her brother, Apollo, were brought to Olympus by Zeus because of
their amazing beauty. On their third birthday, when he pulled them up to the heavens, he asked
Artemis what gifts she would like. She knew exactly what she wanted and promptly explained her six
requests. First she

American Puritanism And American Romanticism
The way people viewed the world changed significantly between the time of American Puritanism and
American Romanticism. American Puritans believed in a flawless society based on the core beliefs of
the Church. As presented in Arthur Miller s The Crucible, American Puritans feared challenging the
social norm because it would essentially lead to possessing a corrupt society. American Romanticism
ideas differed from American Puritanism beliefs. Romanticists emphasized the power of individuals
and believed in valuing feeling and intuition over reason. As opposed to American Puritans,
Romanticists believed in seeking nature and objecting the artificiality of civilization. American
Romanticism literary works impact society because it enforces the importance of human imagination,
the importance of seeking nature, and the importance of valuing feeling over reason. American
Romanticist ideas were widely expressed through poetry and short stories. Literary works such as Rip
Van Winkle by Washington Irving, Thanatopsis by William Cullen Bryant, The Devil and Tom Walker
by Washington Irving, The Pit and the Pendulum by Edgar Allen Poe, The Tell Tale Heart by Edgar
Allen Poe, and The First Snowfall by James Russell Lowell are examples of American Romanticism
stories in which have a significant impact on society. Washington Irving s Rip Van Winkle exemplifies
the significance of seeking unspoiled nature. Rip Van Winkle s wife is presented as a mean individual
and often times exposes

Christianity And Paganism In Beowulf And The Dream Of The...
Christianity with a hint of Paganism
In the 11th Century, cultures in Europe were experiencing cultural diffusion. The previously Pagan
values were being replaced with the rapidly expanding Christian faith. Although this change was
occurring, the literature still held on to Pagan values. Previously, literature was based on the
prominent warrior culture. Cultural diffusion caused the writers to include more Christian values into
their works while also referring elements of Pagan values and the Warrior s code. Two literary works
in particular, Beowulf and the The Dream of the Rood are influenced by this culture shift. In Beowulf,
the main character is a hero who slays beasts and rules his people, applying to both the Warrior s code
of the Pagan culture and Christian values. In The Dream of the Rood, the narrator dreams of Christ s
crucifixion which exemplifies the values of Christian culture by telling the story of the most important
event in Christian beliefs, along with subtly including Pagan values to apply to the audience of their
time. Among the many traits of Pagan and Christian values, heroism is most prominent.
In The Dream of The Rood, an unknown narrator dreams of a beautiful Rood or cross. The cross was
the one used in Christ s crucifixion, the most important event in Christian belief. The Dreamer
described it as, the most splendid tree (4). In his dream, the Rood tells its story of Christ s crucifixion.
The Rood described the nails that are driven into its

We provide more complete results regarding the effectiveness of the amphotericin B as an antifungal
treatment for chytridiomycosis. As an attempt of finding novel antifungal therapeutic agents for Bd,
we tested the viability of the zoospores, sporangia and biofilm associated cells in the presence of
different concentrations of methyl chavicol, curcumin, allicin and 6 gingerol. Plant extracts have been
used to treat different microbial diseases of humans, animals and plants for decades. Methyl chavicol
is not soluble in water; instead it is highly soluble in ethanol and DMSO. Ethanol and DMSO both kill
Bd. Therefore, testing its ability to kill Bd was determined in mixed cultures by directly adding
different volumes of oil into 10 ml H broth cultures. The minimal inhibitory concentration of methyl
chavicol was 1 µl/ml which completely killed a mixer of both zoospores and sporangia. Our results
match with the previously reported MIC of 1 µl/ml for methyl chavicol which completely inhibited
the mycelial growth of Moniliophthora perniciosa (Costa et al. 2015). Antibacterial activities of
Ocimum sp. essential oils, which consist methyl chavicol as the major component, have been proved
to be effective against different bacteria and fungi (Moghaddam et al. 2014, Pandey et al. 2014). Even
though methyl chavicol seems very promising in mitigating Bd in vitro, in vivo studies are highly

Compare And Contrast Archetypal Journey In As I Lay Dying

Archetypal Journey As I Lay Dying and Little Miss Sunshine are two stories about a family s journey
and the setback they face along the way. The type of journey the families endure follows the path of
rising and then falling that occur throughout their time together. Little Miss Sunshine is an effective
contemporary version of the archetypal journey when compared to As I Lay Dying because of the
similar archetypal events, characters and symbolism. The events in Little Miss Sunshine allow the
story to be an effective archetypal journey because each event adds more to the plot, and the plot
allows the story to unfold into the archetypal journey they endure. The ... Show more content on

In As I Lay Dying, the Bundren family uses a wagon to get to Jefferson, but the wagon proves to be a
symbol of the family s dysfunction. During the wagon ride Jewel refuses to sit with the family in the
wagon and rides his horse a mile further then the rest of the family (Faulkner 108). The wagon proves
to be a symbol of dysfunction because the family can work together as a whole or even come together
as a whole. The mechanic tells the family that You get enough people you just get behind there and
push. Just push it up to ten, fifteen miles and hour, and you just go. Everybody jump inside, and you
just go! (Arndt 37). Shortly after, the family works together to get the bus moving and their journey
continues. The VW bus in Little Miss Sunshine shows to be the family s connection to one another
and allows the family to come together and work as a whole. This bus is a symbol of the family s
function as a whole, but also represent the family s individual problems because each person in the car
is going through their own battle, Olive winning the pageant, Dwayne trying to get to flight school,
Richard trying to make a business deal and Frank trying to get over a past lover. There are many
incidents in Little Miss Sunshine when the literary device foreshadowing is used. For example, when
the car breaks down early on, the family should have used that as a sign that this is just the beginning
of the problems that they will face throughout the journey. Similarly, in As I Lay Dying the Bundrens
had many signs that foreshadowed into the horrible journey that they faced. For

Nature And Nature In Keats s Ode To A Nightingale
Edleen Begg was in 1948 among the first to question Keats s supposed love for nature. Her study,
taking aim primarily at Keats s travel correspondence, concluded that natural beauty rarely impressed
him other than through literary mediation or association. If the letters in question might come off as
suspicious by Romantic standards of scenic devotion, they describe with a hint of Heinrich Heine s
irreverent travel writing experiences that must be considered emblematic to the modern sightseer.
While Keats deplores the tourist invasion of the Lake District, disfiguring the noble tenderness of
Lake Windermere with its miasma of London (KL, I, 299), he also expresses a longing for a seat, and
a Cup o tea when picturesque mountains, castles and Lakes have become common (KL, I, 351) goods.
In the renditions of his spontaneous Scottish impressions into verse, a more important kind of
positioning can nonetheless be discerned. Describing his eagerness to visit the ... Show more content

The Ode to a Nightingale is exemplary in this regard. To follow the bird in its ascent, the speaker in a
Dante like movement descends along an underground path to a garden of embalmed darkness (43)
trading bacchic ecstasy for the musk rose s dewy wine (49): a more appropriate substitute of the nectar
from blushful Hippocrene . Through the appearance of the Rosa Moschata, poetically associated with
the wild, but in fact known only through human horticulture, the poem s circle of origins from the
source of divine inspiration to the deep delved earth of the grape vine closes in what appears to be the
subjugation of nature under aesthetics. One might thus agree with Helen Vendler who stresses that this
dwelling of Keats can represent nature only as it exists in the repository of memory and

Electronic Cigarettes Essay
Abstract
Smoking traditional cigarettes causes various adverse health effects; however, the causes of smoking
electronic cigarettes remains unknown. The proposal presents a study that will measure fundamental
frequency. Approximately eighty University of Central Florida students who are non smokers, ages 18
to 24 years old, will smoke an electronic cigarette. Each student will be measured on fundamental
frequency before and after an electronic cigarette smoking session. It is predicated that a non smokers
use of an electronic cigarette will immediately produce a reduction in fundamental frequency, which
may serve as a precursor to signal future medical pathologies similar to that of traditional cigarettes.
The comparisons of pre versus post smoke sessions for vocal fold vibration will be analyzed based on
the fundamental frequency scoring. The demographic variable, gender, may also impact fundamental
frequency results, and will too be analyzed. The proposal provides an overview of the literature and
specific methodological strategies for implementing the research. Expected outcomes and future
research will be discussed.

My Adulthood Memories And Memories Of A Childhood Home
Places are more than less often full of memories. Rooms have narratives that can be told through the
items and furniture they contain. These narratives are often overlooked and not thought about,
especially in places where one does not want to spend a particularly large amount of time. Rooms
speak, even though we often don t want to listen, or don t want to know. Basements are often like this,
full of broken thing and memories, knee deep castaways, childhood toys and holiday lights. The
basement in my childhood home is this way, completely divided into then and now; simply, entirely,
depressing. This room is split into two distinct halves. The stairs are creaky and off white, stained grey
and black from soda spills, muddy shoes, snow slush and dirty dog feet. Clumps of dog hair sit in the
corners of each step, wrapped up into dust balls. At the bottom, to the immediate left, is where a
playroom used to be. There are drawings and old bits of paper stuck up on the walls, hinting as to
what this space used to contain. Now, a large, professional grade ping pong table sits in the middle of
the room. Once loved, the table is now stacked high with towels and laundry. On the wall parallel to
the length of the table is a child s growth chart, drawn in Sharpie on the rigid wall that ruined many a
marker tip. Starting in June 2004 and ending in June of 2017, about 18 lines with corresponding dates

Sebastian Bach Accomplishments
From 1600 to 1750, Western Europe music was known as the Baroque period. The most known
composers of this era were Bach, Vivaldi and Handle. Their music and styles inspired the people of
their time and continue to do so 400 years later in the modern world. The Baroque era was considered
a time of flamboyant lifestyles; a style that filled the space. When the church began to distance
themselves from the political control of Europe, composers began to come up with more radical styles
to be used in their pieces that had not been seen before. For this reason, Baroque music became known
for its highly energetic and dramatic styles. Of course, behind this great music came amazingly
talented composers who made it all happen. Perhaps one of the ... Show more content on

Violence In Colonial America
The process of colonization in the Americas was a complex and complicated series of events, each
driven by the varied interests of an array of European empires. For some, the Americas were a world
of untold riches, while for others, this discovery allowed for missionary efforts to convert Native
Americans to their faith. Regardless of the reason, violence against the many Native Americans who
inhabited this new land was a common colonization tool to achieve these means. Direct violence is the
most well known approach, one that Spain wielded so effectively that the Black Legend was created to
attest to their cruelty. Yet, the violence used was not all direct in nature. Cultural violence, which
England employed itself, was used just as often. Overall, though the Black Legend has led to Spain
being viewed as the most violent colonizer in the Americas, England s use of indirect violence through
engagement in the fur trade and missionary efforts was just as destructive to Native Americans. As
mentioned above, the concept of violence used in colonization, especially that of the Americas, is
usually thought of in only one form. The word conjures images of conquistadores storming villages,
officials forcing Natives into slavery, and the brutal killings of those who did not adhere to European
rule and religious ideals. This is a direct and vivid form of violence. However, violence in colonization
extended into another variety. Indirect violence, which was much more common after

The Role Of Emergency Department Physiotherapists And The...
History
Physiotherapists were first able to serve as primary contact providers in Australia in 1976 with the
lifting of the Australian Physiotherapy Association s ethical principle stating It is unethical for a
member to act in a professional capacity except on referral by a registered medical or dental
practitioner . [1, pg 217] Although the change met much debate, the United Kingdom followed suit in
1978. [1] This legislation had yet to pass in all 50 American states, the District of Columbia, and the
US Virgin Islands until July 1, 2014. [2]
Primary contact physiotherapists first arrived in emergency departments in the United Kingdom, with
the role quickly expanding to Australia. [3, 4] The profession has continued to expand and evolve to
better service in Emergency Departments. [3, 5, 4] Many studies have been performed regarding the
roles of Emergency Department physiotherapists in both Australia and the United Kingdom, the data
of which will be reviewed. However, with the implementation running behind in the United States,
there are few studies pertaining to physiotherapists in American Emergency Departments.
Definition
Physiotherapists in the ED are identified by many different titles both in the United Kingdom and
Australia. In the United Kingdom they may go by Emergency Department Physiotherapy Practitioners

Symptoms of Lupus Essays
Lupus is an autoimmune disease that attacks women between the ages of 15 and 40. It occurs less
often in men than in women. The people affected by lupus vary depending on the country or region. In
the US alone, the prevalence rate is highest among Asians of Hawaii, blacks of Caribbean origin, and
Native Americans of the Sioux, Arapahoe, and Crow tribes. Lupus is a disease that affects the immune
system. We can think of the immune system as an army within the body with hundreds of defenders
(known as antibodies). They defend the body from attack by germs and viruses. In lupus, however, the
immune system becomes overactive and creates antibodies that attack healthy tissues in the body, such
as: the skin, kidneys, lungs, heart and brain. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The most common drugs that can cause lupus are procainamide, used for heart problems, hydralazine
used for high blood pressure, and dilantin used for seizures. Drug induced lupus is usually found in
older men and women of all races. The cause is not known, but certain factors combined are thought
to be significant contributors to the development of lupus. These include genetic defects, hormonal
factors, medications, some infections, exposure to ultraviolet B light, and chemical exposure. Some of
the infections that are suspected triggers are the Epstein Barr virus, cytomegalovirus, parvovirus, and
hepatitis C. Some known chemical exposures include trichloroethylene found in well water and silica
dust.
The most common symptoms are fatigue, rashes, or joint pain. Other symptoms that might develop are
skin problems, sensitivity to light, neuropsychiatric problems, fever, changes in weight, hair loss,
and/or swollen glands. Some specific skin problems are skin rashes, i.e., the facial butterfly rash.
Raynaud s phenomenon is often common, affecting the fingers, toes, ears, or tip of the nose. About
90% of lupus patients have fatigue in various degrees. Symptoms depend on what body organs are
affected and how seriously they are affected. This disease can cause problems in nearly any system of
the body, including the:
• Heart
• Kidney
• Lung
• Digestive system
• Blood cells and related organs
• Blood s clotting factors

Impact Of Technology On The Banking Industry Essay
Introduction
Technological advancement has had a gigantic effect in the banking industry. Over the past few
decades, the financial services industry has changed considerably with banking transforming from the
pen and paper method to the computers and internet method. The pen and paper method took weeks or
even months for the transaction to be eventually completed, and then the dramatic introduction of the
computer and internet method which changed that time frame to only a matter of seconds to be
completed, which reduced the amount of time and labor needed to complete a transaction
significantly. Banking is considered one of the most important economic sectors with it being severely
influential and responsive to any little change, whether it is domestic or international. Some extreme
changes that were brought about by the development of this new technology turned into a globalized
nature for the financial services industry. One stroke of a key on a computer could and would change a
person s life extensively or even have a global impact. The new technologies that were created and
introduced changed how the consumers managed their money from that time on. Technology has
helped to protect peoples hard earned money and make it much more impossible for people to be able
to write out bad checks or even holding up a bank. The advancement in technology however, also
came with some security risks as most things do, that could affect the money that people trusted with

Ozzy Osbourne went through some tough times dealing with drug and Alcohol addiction. However,
after his brief disappearance for over a month. Ozzy made a comeback as a solo artist. Ozzy came

Western Operas Depict Inaccurate Facts about the Orients
In this essay, I am going to discuss and make a stand that western operas depict inaccurate facts about
the orients. In order to substantiate my stand, I will also look into some of the western operas that are
based on the orient. There are many definitions of Orientalism. Some examples are as followed.
According to the oxforddictionaries.com, Orientalism is Style, artifacts, or traits considered
characteristic of the peoples and cultures of Asia. (Oxford University Press 2014) Edwards Said,
author of the book Orientalism defines Orientalism as a corporate institution for dealing with the
Orient , dealing with it by making statements about it, authorizing views of it, describing it, by
teaching it, settling it, ruling over it: in short, Orientalism as a Western style for dominating,
restructuring, and having authority over the Orient. (Locke 1993, under Reflections on Orientalism in
Opera ) From the definitions available, it can concluded that the word orient in the term of Orientalism
is referring to either the Islamic Middle East (e.g. North Africa, Turkey, Arabia, Persia), or East and
South Asia (the Far East , e.g. India, Indochina, China, Japan).
Orientalism has been part of western arts for a long time. Orientalism in Music occurred since the late
Renaissance. This can be seen by a widely performed dance during that period, called the Moresca,
which was associated with the Moors of North Africa and was often performed with dark skin makeup

Junior College Student Analysis
In High school I was a C plus B minus student, which was a substandard grade point average. Due to
academic and financial reasons, I was confined to a Junior college. Nevertheless, making that the best
decision that was ever made for me.
Union County College gave me a second chance to truly grow into the student I am today. In all
honesty, I was reluctant to go to a Junior college. From high school, I wanted to go straight to a four
year, the way that it should be. Alas, my path was not outlined that way; and instead of looking at the
negatives, I sought out the complete opposite. In high school, I did not put forth by best efforts as I
was complacent with being just an average student. With moving forward, I discovered the error of
my ways and made an oath not to underestimate myself as a student.
After abandoning that negative mindset, I became the student that I envisioned for myself. In
academia, I have achieved three point six great point average, and by the time I graduate I am hoping
to raise it to a three point eight. Not only am I currently in two honor societies (Psi Beta and Chi ...

What The Homestead Act Is Through Its Powerpoint Slideshow...
I found a great lesson to work off of for my lesson plan on history of the Homestead Act. The original
lesson was well organized but very short. I chose to focus on Domain 2 Conceptual Understandings
because this lesson plan only had one assessment and I felt that the assessment was weak in whether a
teacher could gage students understanding of the material. This lesson did a below average job of
explaining what the Homestead Act is through its powerpoint slideshow and worksheet activities. I
also didn t like how the lesson plan was designed to show a video clip of the Western Expansion at the
very end of the lecture. I feel that by showing this video is pointless and students might lose interest
by the end of the lesson.
Overall, I agree with the lesson objective but modified it to make it fit my lesson. I also thought that
the opening question was a good way to start a discussion of what the Homestead Act is and why
settlers moved west. I think this question really gets students thinking and is a great segway to the
powerpoint lecture. After the class discussion the lesson plan went right into the the powerpoint
lecture. I think this is a great next step but the powerpoint was very dry and boring. There is no way a
class of 4th graders could sit for 20 minutes listening to the provided powerpoint. The worksheet
packet is a great idea but it did not follow along with the powerpoint and at points is confusing. I
believe if a teacher is going to provide a worksheet packet

Why Cars Are Better Than Trucks
You are making a long term commitment by buying your first car. You are faced with a tough decision
between a truck or a car, and you must weigh the options you have. Trucks are the better choice of
vehicle because of off road capabilities, they can pull heavy loads, and they have more power If you
are on the pro truck side of the argument then you are probably looking at it with more of a sense of
adventure and discovery than a car, and you are most likely more focused on making memories with
your time rather than nice physical things with your money. Yes, it is true that trucks do not have near
as good gas mileage as more fuel efficient cars however. they use that fuel for different things such as
off roading, towing trailers and pulling things. Trucks are often seen in more rural settings of the
country and are used primarily to carry things such as trailers full of hay, or to do manual things like
pulling a tractor out of mud. They are the ideal vehicle when you need raw power to get you out of a
tough situation like when your car is buried so deep in mud that you can t get to the frame. ... Show

people do not have to have the beds of trucks to move things or even the ability to tow things. If you

Tale Of Two Cities Analysis
Charles Dickens, a brilliant author back in the 1850 s, wrote A Tale of Two Cities in order to describe
the similarities between the forces that led to the revolution and the oppression and unrest occurring in
England. The French revolution impacts history because the time period in which it takes place is
before and during the French revolution. The French revolution signifies the essence of a rapid
change, nevertheless, this change tore France right at the heart, where all the government was
functioning . France was torn apart because of the rebellions of the Bourgeoisie, against the rich
aristocrats, consequently the monarch Louis 14th. Charles Dickens went further. He conveys the idea
of the French revolution through the use of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The discrimination in the novel is shown through the ways the royalty and aristocracies live compared
to the lives of the lower class. During the French revolution, the aristocrats were significantly
prosperous than the poverty, as shown in the wine scene. The difference in classes is shown in a scene
where the wine bottle breaks in front of a store, and peasants run to lick up the wine, (book one
chapter five), without any disregard of the mud that is mixed within it. The breaking of the wine bottle
affects the entire poverty class, All the people within reach had suspended their business, or their
idleness, to run to the spot and drink the wine. The peasants were so poor they did not care about the
wine being dirty, they were just happy to be capable of having a drink. In Tale of Two Cities there are
2 types of social classes due to aristocracy being the main idea to govern, This idea for centuries, was
dictated by social and religious convention. The gap in the classes and the lack of care for peasants
caused hatred among the peasants towards the aristocracy. The mistreatment of the peasant class of the
aristocrats lead to the French revolution. The hatred of the peasant class towards the rich is what the
French revolution or any revolution is built on. These inhumane discriminations led to a massive

Six and Seven in Masque of the Red Death
Edgar Allan Poe was a writer who believed every single word contained meaning and in his own
words expressed this idea in brevity only he is capable, there should be no word written, of which
tendency, direct or indirect, is not to the one pre established design. (Poe 244). To this effect, Poe
drenches his works in symbolism and allegory. Especially in shorter works, Poe assigns meaning to
the smallest object, explicitly deriving exurbanite significance within concise descriptions. The
Masque of the Red Death tells the story of a Prince Prospero who along with his one thousand friends
sought a haven from the plague that was ravishing their country. They lived together in the prince s
luxurious abbey with all the amenities and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And the seventh, and most westerly apartment, is black with red accents and represents the end of life,
the setting of the sun, and death. Poe did not intend a specific meaning for the number seven, just for
the reader to be aware of the passing of time and the idea that the prince was trying to recreate a
perfect world complete with all the appliances of pleasure Without was the Red Death. (238). The
Prince s recreation of the world is ironic because it is modeled after the one the Prince and his
followers are trying to escape. The seven perfect rooms foreshadow the evitable downfall of
perfection. The number seven appears six times in the text which may lead to some significance
behind that number as well. Six could represent human morality, the devil, spiritual imperfection. The
masquerade takes place in the sixth month of isolation in the abbey; the sixth apartment is where the
Prince finally confronts Red Death and eventually dies, falling in to the seventh apartment. The sixth
apartment is also colored violet, which has meaning of royalty and power. It may be irony that the
prince succumbs to the Red Death in the violet room and may have more to do with the fact that it is
the sixth room they meet. It is the number six that represents the defiance of god and marks several
anti Christ like figures in

Comparison Of Jeremy Bentham And Arthur Schopenhauer
Pleasure and pain are emotions that are used in the lives of people daily. Both pleasure and pain evoke
emotional and physical responses from them. Pleasure allows human beings to experience happiness,
joyfulness, and laughter through their lives. Pain allows them to be exposed to sadness, remorse, and
crying. Most people do not realize the philosophical importance that is placed on these emotions. Two
philosophers, Jeremy Bentham and Arthur Schopenhauer, are well known for their research regarding
pleasure and pain. Jeremy Bentham believed that pleasure and pain were directly related to happiness.
Because of this, he developed a scale to show the relevance of pleasure and pain to man s happiness.
Arthur Schopenhauer believed like Bentham ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Schopenhauer believed that pleasure is just the absence of pain, like Bentham. The world is full of
strife and frustration which produces much conflict. Schopenhauer believed that the escape of all this
conflict, or pain, was to reject it. However, philosophical art held the key to a temporary release. Since
his philosophy is based on sympathy, Schopenhauer expressed the idea in which feeling one s hurt or
sorrow can be an effort in relieving pain (Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia, 6th Edition). In order to
lose the strife in the world, the people need to minimize their desires so there will be a tranquil frame
of mind and arrangement towards the universe (Wicks, Robert). Schopenhauer explains that suffering
is caused by the willing, therefore the more intense the willing the more intense the suffering. In every
want there is a willing, and in every willing there is a suffering. Suffering is just an uncompleted
willing or want, including the pain felt in the body (Kerns, Tom). Schopenhauer explains suffering as a
continuous cycle, because when a want or desire is fulfilled, a new desire is replaced with old. In
Schopenhauer s eyes, suffering is completely caused by the frustration and conflict that arises from
competition between individual wills (UK

  • 2. Descriptive Essay On Buying A Car Car/Firechicken I always had dreamed of buying my own muscle car in high school. After I got my license, I would shop every day trying to find one that was affordable, and fast. I never could find the right one until one day while I was at a family gathering, my Dad asked his cousin, Neil if he had any older cars around the farm that were for sale. Neil said, I have the one for you. A 1982 Pontiac Firebird. It is not pretty, but it was fast , Neil said. A few months passed, while we figured out a time to go look at this car. Finally the day came. On the way there I was imagining this car to look amazing. My dad was trying to talk me out of buying this car and waiting to find a different one instead. We arrived and sure enough, I got my hopes crushed, It was an ugly green color. We looked it over anyway and Neil took me for a ride in the car. During the test ride he hit the throttle around the corner and we slid sideways. I was sold. This car was quick. I was going to buy this project car no matter what it took. We gave him $500, loaded the car up on the trailer, and we headed back home. A few weeks passed before we started working on the car. We attacked all the cars issues, getting it to run smoothly. We were able to keep the engine cool by adding dual electric fans. We found a set of used tires to put on it. The tires were not the right offset, so the rear tires stuck out about two inches on each side. I eventually started to drive it on the streets and all over ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
• 4. Incarceration of African American Males Essay Introduction The trend of African American males between the ages of 25 and 29 has seen a dramatic increase of incarceration. Attention has been focusing on areas of housing, education, and healthcare but the most prominent problem for African American males is the increase in the incarceration rate. African American males between the ages of 25 and 29 incarceration rate has been thought, by many, to be caused by economic factors such as under employment or unemployment, poor housing, lack of education, and lack of healthcare. Yet, others believe it is due to the imbalance of minorities within the criminal justice system, such as judges, lawyers, and lawmakers. This paper will explore two different outlooks; society has come up with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Decades of failed public and private remedies for chronic disparities and disadvantages in communities of color invite us to reexamine systems and institutions that provide and restrict opportunity in new ways (Lawrence, K., 2011). The causes seem to be intertwined being poor equals, equals a poor education, equals lack of employment, and ultimately equals an increased rate of crime. Consequences The causes seem to be intertwined being poor, equals lack of education, which equals lack of employment, which equals increased rate of crime which equals impossibility to join criminal justice system. Also, many of these men are incarcerated while all the other non incarcerated American young men are finishing school, starting careers, earning seniority at work, marrying and having children thus gaining capital. Even when released from prison, these men return back to their communities with a felony record that will pose extreme problems for them. The incarceration leads the released convict into a lower social class even if they were considered lower class Americans prior to their incarceration; they now are lower in social class standing in most instances. This leads to a poor African American community, perhaps as many as 50% of the male population will have been in prison. These incarcerated African American Males, who are in their prime of life, ... • 5. Life In My Life Life is 10% what happens to is and 90% how we react to it said Dennis p. Kimbro. The lives of most people are not always perfect and probably never will be; and that s ok because having a life with its ups and downs is absolutely normal and ok. My life has had all of its up and downs and still does. I m pretty sure most people or maybe just a few can relate to the kind of things that have shaped me into the person I am today. Some may be bad or good experiences or people that have made any person they are today. It might be surprising to some people how much in common we have just by looking into our similar life changing experiences and encounters. These kind of events or people can make you into the person you are today and give you the personality that you think fits you best. Being in touch with God and my faith has really shaped me into the strong and independent person I am today, also going through depression and having a child at a young age has made me stronger as well. Not many people seem to fully understand how real depression is and how serious these feelings can be. But I do in dealing with depression, medication, and surviving suicide attempts. I can discuss my experiences truthfully and clearly. I remember the first time I thought of suicide. I thought of different ways to do it, when and where. The days would be endless when I was depressed. I felt like a piece of trash that was always getting stepped on or not seen. The mental institution I stayed at was so cold and dull. Every day I would wake up and hear the screams and cries of other children, some younger than me; They would beg to go home and cry saying i want to go home...let me see my mommy! I was constantly reminded of this situation every time I looked down at my wrist and arms. Cuts and bruises everywhere. Some from the doctors who constantly took out my blood or put stuff inside me, and some caused by myself. I did not see this as getting help at first, i felt like i was in prison. I felt like i was in trouble for what i had done. During my time of depression, i constantly felt alone. I was scared all the time and feared the thoughts of being alone forever. • 6. Volunteer Spirit Research Paper The volunteer spirit, in essence, is a feeling of pride that I have for having the opportunity to attend the University of Tennessee. It means embracing the traditions, the history, and especially the color orange. The volunteer spirit is the pride that you see at every football game in all the students, alumni, and other fans that are yelling Rocky Top as loud as they can. It is the sense of wonder you can see in the students expanding their horizons and working to learn so that they can make their mark on the world and improve it. I want to have the best experience I can in college and I can only do that through leaving my comfort zone and trying out everything that Tennessee has to offer. I am going to stud hard so that I can use the knowledge that I gain at Tennessee to build a life for myself and hopefully, I can impact the world. This is not an easy task; however, I believe that the University of Tennessee has the resources and professors that will allow me to accomplish this. I plan to completely accept the spirit of the campus when I arrive and to branch out so that I can become a well rounded person and so that I can expand my knowledge as much as possible. In the end, I think that the volunteer spirit boils down to the love and pride that I, and many others, have for UT. It is this love that causes us to cheer for it no matter what, and even to wear orange despite it not matching with anything. It is a desire to have the full experience while attending the University and learning all you can from it. • 7. The Greek Gods And Goddesses Many greek gods and goddesses possess paradoxical characteristics. This makes some of them hypocritical and others well rounded. Artemis shows her versatility through her two sided role as an influential women in society and her opposite qualities apparent during acts of mass destruction. Artemis was born to Zeus, God of lighting, and titan Leto along with her twin brother Apollo (Hamilton 31). Right as Leto was about to give birth, she was prohibited by Hera, Zeus s jealous primary suitor, from having the children where the sun could reach her. To avoid upsetting Hera, Zeus took Leto to a floating island shielded from the sun by a wave. Leto had the babies there because technically she was not on any ground where the sun was showing (Wickersham 1:60). Artemis is the huntress of the gods. She maintains adolescence s safety and values virginity highly. She is also called Diana in Roman Mythology (Wickersham 1:59). The cypress is her holy tree and deer are especially holy to her in addition to her passion for all wild creatures (Hamilton 32). She is characterized as ...lover of the woods and the wild chase over the mountains, (Hamilton 31). Artemis was a strong female from the beginning. She and her brother, Apollo, were brought to Olympus by Zeus because of their amazing beauty. • 8. American Puritanism And American Romanticism The way people viewed the world changed significantly between the time of American Puritanism and American Romanticism. American Puritans believed in a flawless society based on the core beliefs of the Church. As presented in Arthur Miller s The Crucible, American Puritans feared challenging the social norm because it would essentially lead to possessing a corrupt society. American Romanticism ideas differed from American Puritanism beliefs. Romanticists emphasized the power of individuals and believed in valuing feeling and intuition over reason. As opposed to American Puritans, Romanticists believed in seeking nature and objecting the artificiality of civilization. American Romanticism literary works impact society because it enforces the importance of human imagination, the importance of seeking nature, and the importance of valuing feeling over reason. American Romanticist ideas were widely expressed through poetry and short stories. Literary works such as Rip Van Winkle by Washington Irving, Thanatopsis by William Cullen Bryant, The Devil and Tom Walker by Washington Irving, The Pit and the Pendulum by Edgar Allen Poe, The Tell Tale Heart by Edgar Allen Poe, and The First Snowfall by James Russell Lowell are examples of American Romanticism stories in which have a significant impact on society. • 9. Christianity And Paganism In Beowulf And The Dream Of The... Christianity with a hint of Paganism In the 11th Century, cultures in Europe were experiencing cultural diffusion. The previously Pagan values were being replaced with the rapidly expanding Christian faith. Although this change was occurring, the literature still held on to Pagan values. Previously, literature was based on the prominent warrior culture. Cultural diffusion caused the writers to include more Christian values into their works while also referring elements of Pagan values and the Warrior s code. Two literary works in particular, Beowulf and the The Dream of the Rood are influenced by this culture shift. In Beowulf, the main character is a hero who slays beasts and rules his people, applying to both the Warrior s code of the Pagan culture and Christian values. In The Dream of the Rood, the narrator dreams of Christ s crucifixion which exemplifies the values of Christian culture by telling the story of the most important event in Christian beliefs, along with subtly including Pagan values to apply to the audience of their time. Among the many traits of Pagan and Christian values, heroism is most prominent. In The Dream of The Rood, an unknown narrator dreams of a beautiful Rood or cross. The cross was the one used in Christ s crucifixion, the most important event in Christian belief. The Dreamer described it as, the most splendid tree (4). We provide more complete results regarding the effectiveness of the amphotericin B as an antifungal treatment for chytridiomycosis. As an attempt of finding novel antifungal therapeutic agents for Bd, we tested the viability of the zoospores, sporangia and biofilm associated cells in the presence of different concentrations of methyl chavicol, curcumin, allicin and 6 gingerol. Plant extracts have been used to treat different microbial diseases of humans, animals and plants for decades. Methyl chavicol is not soluble in water; instead it is highly soluble in ethanol and DMSO. Ethanol and DMSO both kill Bd. Therefore, testing its ability to kill Bd was determined in mixed cultures by directly adding different volumes of oil into 10 ml H broth cultures. The minimal inhibitory concentration of methyl chavicol was 1 µl/ml which completely killed a mixer of both zoospores and sporangia. Our results match with the previously reported MIC of 1 µl/ml for methyl chavicol which completely inhibited the mycelial growth of Moniliophthora perniciosa (Costa et al. 2015). Antibacterial activities of Ocimum sp. essential oils, which consist methyl chavicol as the major component, have been proved to be effective against different bacteria and fungi (Moghaddam et al. 2014, Pandey et al. 2014). • 12. Compare And Contrast Archetypal Journey In As I Lay Dying Jackie Larremore Mr. Rosenast AP Literature and Composition 15 December 2014 Archetypal Journey As I Lay Dying and Little Miss Sunshine are two stories about a family s journey and the setback they face along the way. The type of journey the families endure follows the path of rising and then falling that occur throughout their time together. Little Miss Sunshine is an effective contemporary version of the archetypal journey when compared to As I Lay Dying because of the similar archetypal events, characters and symbolism. The events in Little Miss Sunshine allow the story to be an effective archetypal journey because each event adds more to the plot, and the plot allows the story to unfold into the archetypal journey they endure. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In As I Lay Dying, the Bundren family uses a wagon to get to Jefferson, but the wagon proves to be a symbol of the family s dysfunction. During the wagon ride Jewel refuses to sit with the family in the wagon and rides his horse a mile further then the rest of the family (Faulkner 108). The wagon proves to be a symbol of dysfunction because the family can work together as a whole or even come together as a whole. The mechanic tells the family that You get enough people you just get behind there and push. Just push it up to ten, fifteen miles and hour, and you just go. Everybody jump inside, and you just go! (Arndt 37). Shortly after, the family works together to get the bus moving and their journey continues. The VW bus in Little Miss Sunshine shows to be the family s connection to one another and allows the family to come together and work as a whole. This bus is a symbol of the family s function as a whole, but also represent the family s individual problems because each person in the car is going through their own battle, Olive winning the pageant, Dwayne trying to get to flight school, Richard trying to make a business deal and Frank trying to get over a past lover. There are many incidents in Little Miss Sunshine when the literary device foreshadowing is used. For example, when the car breaks down early on, the family should have used that as a sign that this is just the beginning of the problems that they will face throughout the journey. Similarly, in As I Lay Dying the Bundrens had many signs that foreshadowed into the horrible journey that they faced. For ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Nature And Nature In Keats s Ode To A Nightingale Edleen Begg was in 1948 among the first to question Keats s supposed love for nature. Her study, taking aim primarily at Keats s travel correspondence, concluded that natural beauty rarely impressed him other than through literary mediation or association. If the letters in question might come off as suspicious by Romantic standards of scenic devotion, they describe with a hint of Heinrich Heine s irreverent travel writing experiences that must be considered emblematic to the modern sightseer. While Keats deplores the tourist invasion of the Lake District, disfiguring the noble tenderness of Lake Windermere with its miasma of London (KL, I, 299), he also expresses a longing for a seat, and a Cup o tea when picturesque mountains, castles and Lakes have become common (KL, I, 351) goods. Through the appearance of the Rosa Moschata, poetically associated with the wild, but in fact known only through human horticulture, the poem s circle of origins from the source of divine inspiration to the deep delved earth of the grape vine closes in what appears to be the subjugation of nature under aesthetics. • 14. Electronic Cigarettes Essay Abstract Smoking traditional cigarettes causes various adverse health effects; however, the causes of smoking electronic cigarettes remains unknown. The proposal presents a study that will measure fundamental frequency. Approximately eighty University of Central Florida students who are non smokers, ages 18 to 24 years old, will smoke an electronic cigarette. Each student will be measured on fundamental frequency before and after an electronic cigarette smoking session. It is predicated that a non smokers use of an electronic cigarette will immediately produce a reduction in fundamental frequency, which may serve as a precursor to signal future medical pathologies similar to that of traditional cigarettes. The comparisons of pre versus post smoke sessions for vocal fold vibration will be analyzed based on the fundamental frequency scoring. The demographic variable, gender, may also impact fundamental frequency results, and will too be analyzed. The proposal provides an overview of the literature and specific methodological strategies for implementing the research. Expected outcomes and future research will be discussed. These narratives are often overlooked and not thought about, especially in places where one does not want to spend a particularly large amount of time. Rooms speak, even though we often don t want to listen, or don t want to know. Basements are often like this, full of broken thing and memories, knee deep castaways, childhood toys and holiday lights. The basement in my childhood home is this way, completely divided into then and now; simply, entirely, depressing. This room is split into two distinct halves. The stairs are creaky and off white, stained grey and black from soda spills, muddy shoes, snow slush and dirty dog feet. Clumps of dog hair sit in the corners of each step, wrapped up into dust balls. At the bottom, to the immediate left, is where a playroom used to be. There are drawings and old bits of paper stuck up on the walls, hinting as to what this space used to contain. Now, a large, professional grade ping pong table sits in the middle of the room. Once loved, the table is now stacked high with towels and laundry. On the wall parallel to the length of the table is a child s growth chart, drawn in Sharpie on the rigid wall that ruined many a marker tip. • 16. Sebastian Bach Accomplishments From 1600 to 1750, Western Europe music was known as the Baroque period. The most known composers of this era were Bach, Vivaldi and Handle. Their music and styles inspired the people of their time and continue to do so 400 years later in the modern world. The Baroque era was considered a time of flamboyant lifestyles; a style that filled the space. When the church began to distance themselves from the political control of Europe, composers began to come up with more radical styles to be used in their pieces that had not been seen before. For this reason, Baroque music became known for its highly energetic and dramatic styles. Of course, behind this great music came amazingly talented composers who made it all happen. • 18. Violence In Colonial America The process of colonization in the Americas was a complex and complicated series of events, each driven by the varied interests of an array of European empires. For some, the Americas were a world of untold riches, while for others, this discovery allowed for missionary efforts to convert Native Americans to their faith. Regardless of the reason, violence against the many Native Americans who inhabited this new land was a common colonization tool to achieve these means. Direct violence is the most well known approach, one that Spain wielded so effectively that the Black Legend was created to attest to their cruelty. Yet, the violence used was not all direct in nature. Cultural violence, which England employed itself, was used just as often. Overall, though the Black Legend has led to Spain being viewed as the most violent colonizer in the Americas, England s use of indirect violence through engagement in the fur trade and missionary efforts was just as destructive to Native Americans. As mentioned above, the concept of violence used in colonization, especially that of the Americas, is usually thought of in only one form. The word conjures images of conquistadores storming villages, officials forcing Natives into slavery, and the brutal killings of those who did not adhere to European rule and religious ideals. This is a direct and vivid form of violence. However, violence in colonization extended into another variety. Indirect violence, which was much more common after ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In order to substantiate my stand, I will also look into some of the western operas that are based on the orient. There are many definitions of Orientalism. Some examples are as followed. According to the oxforddictionaries.com, Orientalism is Style, artifacts, or traits considered characteristic of the peoples and cultures of Asia. (Oxford University Press 2014) Edwards Said, author of the book Orientalism defines Orientalism as a corporate institution for dealing with the Orient , dealing with it by making statements about it, authorizing views of it, describing it, by teaching it, settling it, ruling over it: in short, Orientalism as a Western style for dominating, restructuring, and having authority over the Orient. (Locke 1993, under Reflections on Orientalism in Opera ) From the definitions available, it can concluded that the word orient in the term of Orientalism is referring to either the Islamic Middle East (e.g. North Africa, Turkey, Arabia, Persia), or East and South Asia (the Far East , e.g. India, Indochina, China, Japan). Orientalism has been part of western arts for a long time. Orientalism in Music occurred since the late Renaissance. Yes, it is true that trucks do not have near as good gas mileage as more fuel efficient cars however. they use that fuel for different things such as off roading, towing trailers and pulling things. Trucks are often seen in more rural settings of the country and are used primarily to carry things such as trailers full of hay, or to do manual things like pulling a tractor out of mud.
