Project planning steps like defining the goal and developing drawings are reviewed.
This document describes several common types of wood joints:
Dowel joints use dowels inserted into drilled holes for strength. Dado joints cut away wood to hold shelves without fasteners. Rabbet joints cut wood at specific lengths then glue them together. Lap joints overlap cut wood and glue or nail them together. Dovetail joints cut interlocking wood shapes to join drawers strongly. Mortise and tenon joints cut a tenon that inserts into a mortise for a very strong connection. Miter joints at corners can be strengthened with hidden wood splines. Tongue and groove joints insert a tongue into a groove to join flooring or panels edge to edge into a flat surface.
This document defines and describes the various mechanical properties of wood, including stiffness, tensile strength, compressive strength, shearing strength, bending strength, toughness, hardness, cleavability, and resilience. It provides details on how each property is measured and how it impacts the performance and uses of wood. The properties consider how wood resists both internal and external forces acting parallel or perpendicular to the wood grain.
The document discusses plumbing components and equipment. It describes common piping components like pipes, fittings, flanges, valves and bolting. It then discusses various plumbing equipment often hidden from view like water meters, pumps, expansion tanks, backflow preventers, filters, softeners, heaters, heat exchangers, gauges and control systems. Finally, it lists and describes common plumbing fixtures visible to users such as bathtubs, bidets, drinking fountains, sinks, showers, pools and fountains.
The document discusses various carpentry tools and wood joints. It provides details on 8 common tools: try square, steel rule, marking gauge, coping saw, tenon saw, panel saw, ironjack plane, and bench vice. It describes what each tool is used for and key features. The document also briefly explains two types of wood joints - the lap joint and mortise & tenon joint. It notes the mortise & tenon joint is very strong and often used in leg and rail construction.
This document provides information about various types of wood and timber. It discusses hardwoods which come from broad-leaf deciduous trees like oak. It also discusses softwoods which come from coniferous trees that do not lose their leaves. Softwood is used widely in construction. Manufactured boards like plywood and MDF are also described, which are made from gluing wood layers or fibers together. The document also covers wood properties, classifications, elements of a tree, defects in timber, and uses of different wood types.
The document provides an overview of plumbing fixtures and systems. It defines common fixtures like water closets, urinals, sinks, bathtubs and showers. 1) DC generators convert mechanical energy to electrical energy through Faraday's law of electromagnetic induction. When a conductor moves through a magnetic field, an EMF is induced in the conductor.
2) The main components of a DC generator are the yoke, field electromagnets, armature, commutator, and brushes. The armature is wound with coils and rotates within the magnetic field produced by the field electromagnets to generate an EMF.
3) As the armature rotates, the commutator and brushes are used to periodically reverse the direction of current in the external circuit, thereby producing direct current. Losses in the generator arise from copper, iron, and mechanical components
This document discusses various topics related to woodworking and carpentry. It defines key terms like board foot, which is a unit used to measure lumber. It also lists common woodworking tools categorized into testing tools, marking tools, holding tools, cutting tools, smooth facing tools, boring tools, and fastening tools. 1. A DC motor runs on direct current electricity. It has a field winding that produces a magnetic field when energized, and an armature winding that rotates when placed in this magnetic field.
2. The key parts of a DC motor include the yoke, poles, field winding, armature core, armature winding, commutator, and brushes. The field winding produces flux, and the rotation of the armature winding within this flux induces voltage that is used to power the load.
3. DC motors can be shunt wound, series wound, or compound wound depending on how the field and armature windings are connected. Shunt and series motors have different torque-speed characteristics due

Why did we create Joinery Trade?
Back in March 2014 I was approached by a close friend to see if I could create a flat pack website that
could automatically import into his cabinet making software. Being somebody who can’t resist a good
challenge I started looking into the complexity of the task. I started by reviewing other flat pack websites on the
market and pretty quickly noticed some alarming trends. Out of the hundreds of websites I reviewed, I
noticed that the vast majority were asking for customers to download a PDF order form and fax or
email it for processing. This seemed very time consuming for both parties and the risk of mistakes
was extremely high. The remaining websites had a basic online ordering system that restricted the
buyer to choose from stock cabinet sizes. This approach really over complicated the ordering process.
A simple Floor 1 Door cabinet with 1 shelf was available in 50mm increments from 200mm to 700mm.
If you wanted an extra shelf this would require you to order a completely different cabinet.
The only thing more convoluted than the ordering process was figuring out how much the cabinet was
going to cost! When I first started looking it appeared like a relatively simple pricing chart / spreadsheet.
But then I realised all the prices I could see were for 560mm deep and 720mm high cabinets. So what
happens if I want to make my cabinets 710mm high? I would have to manually calculate the price of my
chosen cabinet by adding an extra 25% surcharge! This was not only difficult and time consuming to
figure out, it was also a complete rip off. I was requesting to make the cabinet smaller therefore using
less material and I was expected to pay much more for the cabinet. This thought baffled me as I knew
the end cost to the manufacturer would, if anything, be slightly less. The only reason for the 25%
surcharge was the labour intensive task of building something that wasn’t in stock.
This thought ate away at me for a few months while I was travelling around Australia integrating cabinet
making software into small businesses. It seemed crazy that there were so many companies with the
capacity to manufacture custom cabinets very quickly and efficiently yet, it seemed impossible for a
consumer to leverage that automation to order custom cabinets online without jumping through hoops
or paying ridiculous sums of money. During my travels I noticed that so many small business owners
who had just taken the leap to buy a CNC machine wanted to see the machine running as often as possible.
The idea of the expensive new machine sitting there idle irritated most business owners. Lots of guys
started asking me if I knew of anyone who needed jobs cut on a CNC.
All of a sudden it dawned on me. What if I could somehow link consumers to manufacturers who have
CNC machines with excess capacity? What if I could automate the whole process so consumers had the
flexibility to customise their order and know how much it will cost them instantaneously? What if that
order could import directly into the manufacturers cabinet making software and keep their CNC
machine running at capacity while increasing their turnover? Could it really be possible that I could create
something that would simultaneously benefit both parties? It was in this moment that the concept of
joinerytrade.com was born.
It has taken over 2 years to turn this concept into a reality. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with some
of the most creative minds from all corners of the world to create joinerytrade.com. I can honestly say
that we wouldn’t be launching at AWISA 2016 without the help of my two incredibly talented business
partners Jamie Silver and Adam Moretti. But it doesn’t end here… we have big plans for the future of
joinerytrade.com and invite you all to join us in the movement that will reshape how people buy cabinets,
kitchens and other joinery items online. If you haven’t already, visit joinerytrade.com
It’s where to buy cabinets, where to sell cabinets.
Sincerely, David Carr

Can I set my own prices for cabinets?
We have spent many months developing a pricing
algorithm that we believe is fair and reasonable for the
buyer. We researched other flat pack websites and found
that most of them are affordable until you need to alter the
depth or height of a cabinet beyond the standard sizes. We
wanted to make Joinery Trades pricing realistic at any size
and have developed the pricing algorithm accordingly. As
a Seller you can increase or decrease the prices by a
percentage. If you feel our pricing is a little too sharp then
you can simply increase our pricing by a set percentage.
What happens after a buyer purchases
a product from me?
You will be sent an email notification that explains the
order details. This email will also contain a file that can be
imported into your cabinet making software to save
manually re-entering the order in your manufacturing
software.
