This document discusses the relationships between health, foreign policy, security, and development. It makes three key points: 1) Health is a central global concern that impacts economies, politics, development, and security. Sanctions that reduce health budgets can increase child mortality, and globalization can facilitate the spread of diseases. 2) Poor health both causes and exacerbates poverty, and conflicts are financially burdensome and hinder development. Investing in health can help break cycles of violence. 3) Effective global governance is needed to assess risks, prepare for health crises, and support response and recovery efforts through alliances like the G8 and Commission for Africa.
