This document discusses self-directed learning projects and how one school uses student exhibits as a form of assessment. It describes how Google allows employees to spend 20% of their time on self-directed projects to increase productivity. The school has students create 4 exhibits per year with pieces from different subjects that have a cohesive theme. Teachers assess students by walking through the exhibits, looking for evidence of understanding, and questioning students about their projects and understanding. Every 9 weeks the school has a family celebration where students share and explain their projects.
