1) Joanna Wilcox intends to explore how knowing learners, explicit teaching, targeting future thinking skills, and promoting self-managed learners can raise achievement for all learners, especially Maori and Pasifika children.
2) In Term 1, she focused on getting to know learners' backgrounds through home visits and displays. She explicitly taught learning strategies like rubrics and helped learners understand themselves as learners.
3) In Term 2, she introduced learning buddies to promote peer learning and self-management. Learners discussed must-dos and can-dos to guide their work. She taught the concept of problems and problem-solving.
