Miró and Picasso met in Paris, and it was just then when their
strong friendship started, in which the 12 years difference
between them wasn't an important issue. Their different
styles weren't a problem neither, and they became stronger
over the years, so people considered them a reason for a
great rivalry between the two friends.
Miró in Paris
Miró left Spain when the Civil
War started and settled in Paris.
During those years he designed
posters for the republican army
and participated in the Spanish
Republican Pavilion, in the
Universal Exhibition of Paris in
1937.
The dark and shocking influence
of the war is conveyed in that
period´s paintings.

communicated with the
general public.

Something about his
curiosities
Assesine(of paint)
At a certain moment, Miró manifested his desire to "kill the
painting". In reality, he intended to experiment with new
materials, supports and techniques, although he once took the
motto to practice almost literally.
·
● First exposure a total failure
On February 16, 1918, at the age of twenty-four, he
opened his first solo exhibition at the Dalmau Galleries
in Barcelona. There were no less than 64 works that
included landscapes, portraits and still lifes. The reviews
were not very complacent, and he did not sell a single
painting.
He imposed his definitive vocation after a retirement due to
illness. The family owned a farmhouse in Mont-roig, a town in
the Baix Camp region of Tarragona. There he retired at
nineteen to recover from typhoid fever. But, in addition to
breathing the healthy country air, he made the firm decision
not to dedicate himself to anything other than painting, with
the consequent displeasure of his parents.
He suffered a stroke from which he left with little mobility,
Miró died on December 25, 1983 in Palma de Mallorca
