Joan Miro was born in Barcelona in 1893 and started painting at age 8 with simple works. After visiting Paris in 1920 and meeting artists like Picasso, he began incorporating bright colors, shapes, and symbols from his dreams into his paintings. He was also a sculptor and tapestry artist. In 1959, Miro moved to Majorca, where he had a studio and lived until his death at age 90 in 1983.
