In 1620, European settlers who arrived in America on a boat that sank were helped by Native Americans. To celebrate a good harvest after planting European vegetables, the settlers had a meal with the Native Americans that included turkey and vegetables, establishing the Thanksgiving tradition of families and friends sharing a special meal. Thanksgiving later became a four-day holiday known for parades featuring balloons and events with communities celebrating together.
