HISTORY OF LAS VEGAS
 A Spanish merchant called an area “Las Vegas.”
 Some years later a man built a ranch and named it
Las Vegas Ranch.
 When the man died his wife took over and she sold
the ranch to a railroad company.
 As they built the railroad people made houses.
GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION
 Las Vegas is 36º North and 115º West, it’s in the
USA, in the state of Nevada.
RELATION WITH PARALLELS
 Las Vegas is located in the north hemisphere next
to the Tropic of Cancer and away from the Equator.
Las Vegas is very far away from the Prime
Meridian.
DISTANCE FROM OUR HOME TOWN
This city is 8.830 km away from Villamayor.
By plane, it takes 8 hours .
VEGAS TIME ZONE
 Las Vegas is 9 hours behind Villamayor. If here it’s
3 pm there it’s 4 am.
POPULATION
 The population in Las Vegas is about 633.000
people in 2016 in a surface of 352 km2.
 The 48% of the people is American, there is an 11%
of Afro-American or black people, there is a 32% of
Hispanic population.
 People older than 55 is not very common there and
the number of men and women is very similar.
 The casinos are the most known attraction of Las
Vegas. There is some important people like Greg
Anthony (basketball player) or DeMarco Murray
(football player).
CURRENT SEASON
 Now in Las Vegas it’s the same season as here.
 In general it doesn’t rain very much in Las Vegas.
 In summer the temperature is about 35ºC and it is
very dry and at night the temperature is about 20ºC.
 Winter in Las Vegas is not very cold, the
temperature is about 15ºC.
ECOSYSTEM AND CLIMATE
 The climate in Las Vegas is a desert climate. It’s
very hot and dry and very cold at night.
 There aren´t too many animals and there is little
vegetation.
 Due to this desert climate we can find plants like
cactus and thorny bushes and some salamanders,
iguanas, mice, bats and some birds.
ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES.
In Las Vegas there is a serious lack of water and it
is a serious problem because the water is required
to the ecosystem. Because the animals need the
water to live … and the humans, too.
