4. INTRODUCTION
• Matter is defined as anything that have mass and takes up
some space
• It is found in three major states,they are:I) solids,II) liquids and
III)gases.
• All matters are made up of atoms.
• Atoms are the basic unit of all matters and also atoms are the
smallest particles of matters
• Atoms cannot be visible to our bare eyes but we can see and
analyse them using various microscopes. eg:S.E.M.(Scaning
Electron Microscope)&T.E.M.(Tunneling Electron Microscope)).

5. Physical nature of matter
• Mass occupies some space and it have its own mass All
matter is made up of very small particles.
• for example:gold is made up of tiny gold particles and water is
made up of tiny water particles.these tiny particles present in all
matter are called as atoms or molecules.
• We can only able to see an group of particles using powerful
microscopes but we can't see an single particle even under an
powerful microscope.

7. CHARACTERISTICS OF THE PARTICLES OF
MATTER.
• Particles of matter have a lot of space in between them(except
solids). In different form of matters this spacing will be
different.
• Since particles are tightly packed in solid state of matter it consist
of low spacing that's why they have definite shape(eg:ice
cubes,fruits,stones etc.) .
• Space between the particles in liquids are quite larger than the
solids. They do not have an definite shape but they have the
ability to adopt the shape of the container in which they have been
stored.

10. DIFFUSION
• When a drop of paint or a drop of ink is dropped in a container
consist of water we can observe an slowly spreading of the colour in
water this moment is known as diffusion
• Diffusion is the tendency of particles to spread out inorder to
occupy the available space

• Matter is nothing but an object which have mass and
occupies some space..it is classified into three types
they are:solid,liquid and gas.All matters are made up
of atoms or moleccules.

matters are held together by an attraction force which
differs for different types of matters.diffusion is defined
