Jef Staes discusses the transition from 2D to 3D thinking and innovation. In the current 2D age, education and work focus too heavily on standardized testing and rigid job descriptions rather than passion and talents. This has stifled innovation. However, a new 3D age is emerging where information is abundant and open innovation thrives at the edges through crowd-sourcing and fusion of ideas. For innovation to succeed, we must reinvent how we educate, work, and manage innovation using a model of organic crowd-based evolution rather than restrictive top-down processes.
