EXPERIENCE (continued)
NOVA TECHNOLOGY INTERNATIONAL, INC., Rochester,NY
ChiefEngineer/Owner [1981 – 2003]
Comprehensive responsibility for the strategic launch, development, and day-to-day management of a project
engineering firmspecializing in the design, fabrication, and installation of custombulk material handling systems
for the glass industry. Sell systems to customersthroughout the U.S., South America, and part of Asia. Purchased
Dynamec Corporation in 1981.
Built the business from the ground floor into a $3M/year operation
Supervised 15 engineers and draftsman to manage multiple projects
Managed all facets of electrical and mechanical design, estimating, sales, and project installation
Professional Accomplishments
Provided plant audits for a variety of manufacturers to identify problemareasand to make recommendations for
production, labor and environmental improvements.
Assisted major manufacturerin improving antiquated production facilities at a number of locationsthroughout
the U.S. These plantssought to address the following problems.
Inconsistency in product quality
Spillage of raw material leading to material waste, hazardous working environment and OSHA issues
Labor intensive system of production and maintenance
Archaic system to collect manufacturing data for quality control and production monitoring
Frequent mechanical break-downs resulting in loss of production
Solution
Taking in budget and shut-down time constraints, implemented a multi-year plan for plant improvements.
Phases were prioritized by significance to production improvements and return on investment benefits.
First phase consisted of installation of state of the art process control system to address the quality and data
issues. Production efficiency improved from 65-75% to 88-90%.
Second phase consisted of replacing mechanical equipment to address breakdown and spillage issues.
Ensuing phases included installing new process control equipment to address various production,
environmental improvements and labor reduction issues.
Provided all engineering services including electrical, mechanical and automation controls
Provided project management including construction and fabrication bid packages, awarded sub-contracts and
supervised all installation contractors
Commissioned equipment and trained operators and maintenance personnel.
Presently plants are operating at mid-90% efficiency, meet OSHA requirements and labor is reduced 50 to
75%.
Assisted major manufacturerwho was undertaking significant capital improvements with in-house staff of
engineers. Prior to my involvement, construction was proceeding to meet aggressive production timetable.
Engineering fell behind schedule resulting in issuance of costly time and material contracts and inefficient
construction labor management.
Solution
Redirected engineers to prioritize areas that were pertinent to construction
Prepared electricalconstruction and wiring drawings.
Prepared bid packages for firm price quotations
Prepared installation schedule and managed installation contractors.
Delivered project on schedule and stopped construction cost overruns.
