New – Tax Centers open, free!
Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall has TWO (2 – count ‘em) tax centers to take care of
all of us at tax time.
 There is the Military District of Washington Tax Center on the Fort Myer portion
of the joint base in Building 205 (new location from previous years) 101 Bloxon
Street. This Tax Center is now open for appointments or walk-ins Monday
through Friday and every other Saturday (Monday, Wednesday and Friday -8:30 to 4 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday – 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., and every other
Saturday, Feb. 8-April 12 – 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. – walk ins only.
 There is the Headquarters, U.S. Marine Corps Tax Center aboard the Henderson
Hall portion of the joint base, Building 29, Room 105. They are open now from 8
a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Appointments are not necessary, but
appointments are available for more complex tax returns. Bring your military ID,
all W2s, all 1099s, 1098s, etc., social security cards for all family members, EIN for
day care providers, all documents supporting deductions and credits, copies of
your 2012 federal and state tax returns, tax power of attorney or IRS form 2848

NEW – Marine Corps Exchange to undergo renovations
Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS) Henderson Hall announces an
upcoming renovation to the Marine Corps Exchange (MCX) on Joint Base MyerHenderson Hall. Equipment and crews have begun arriving to facilitate the
construction of an additional 7,455 square feet to the third floor of the existing store. The
project’s start date is February 3.
The renovation is projected to take approximately eight months. When
completed, the additional space will allow the Navy Exchange (NEX) Uniform Shop to
move from its temporary location on the Physical Training (PT) Field near the Cpl.
Terry L. Smith Gymnasium into space on the MCX third floor. Other departments
expected to be added include children’s clothing and accessories and firearms.
Pedestrians and drivers should expect to encounter detours during the
construction. Some parking already has been impacted in the flood basin, the base of
operations for the contractor. In upcoming weeks, a construction crane will be moved
into place near the rear of the MCX. Updates to detours, impacts, and access to MCCS
facilities will be posted to the MCCS website, www.mccsHH.com.
For their safety, patrons are asked to obey all signage in and around the
construction site. Any concerns may be directed to MCCS Operations at 571-483-1947.

New – Henderson Hall Chaplain’s office update
The kitchen in the Henderson Hall Chaplain’s office (Bldg. ) is scheduled to reopen Feb.
7 beginning at 11 a.m. There will be food available; donations are accepted and will be

NEW – Mobile DMV to visit Fort Myer portion of JBM-HH
The JBM-HH Army Career and Alumni Program will sponsor the Virginia
Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) mobile unit Feb. 25 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the
parking lot in front of the Bowling Center and Spates Community Club. They will
provide all or most services provided at a regular DMV office. The mobile until
provides JBM-HH Servicemembers, their Families, DoD civilians and retirees a different
and convenient venue exclusively without having to go to a regular office. For more

Rader Clinic opens enrollment to adults, children
Andrew Rader Health Clinic is opening up enrollment to adult and pediatric
patients. Priority will go to Tricare Prime eligible beneficiaries, though Tricare For Life
will also be considered. Below is the information you need for enrollment:
Who: Military Healthcare Beneficiaries wanting to get their primary care at Rader
Health Clinic
What: Bring your DEERS ID Card and inquire about signing up for RelayHealth as
well (Note: using Relay Health is not a requirement for enrollment)
When: 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday with exception of Thursday,
which is from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Rader Dental Clinic closed Feb. 26; no sick call Feb. 13
Rader Dental Clinic, Building 525 on the Fort Myer portion of Joint Base MyerHenderson Hall, will close for mandatory staff training Wednesday, Feb. 26 from 7:30 to
11:30 a.m.
In addition, there will be no “sick call” at the Rader Dental Clinic – from 7:30 to 9:30
a.m. – but all other appointments will still occur. In an emergency during this time,
report to the Fort Belvoir Dental Clinic between 7 and 7:30; or return to Rader the
following day.

Henderson Hall CONAD Pentagon road show
CONAD (Consolidated Administration) will be conducting a road show at the
Pentagon every Wednesday unless otherwise advised. The road show will be located in
Room 4B548 (Division of Public Affairs Conference Room) from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
CONAD will continue with the road shows every Wednesday at the same location in
order to provide administrative support for the Marines who work in the Pentagon.

4. CONAD sends e-mails to Marines who are due to have their triennial audits, dependent
over 21 audits and CSB audits completed on a weekly basis.

Barber Shop Renovations
The Barber Shop on the Henderson Hall portion of the joint base will be open
Feb. 3-5 from 8:30 a.m. and close early at 1 p.m. and will be closed February 6-7. Regular
hours are expected to resume Saturday, February 8. For more information, please call

Free throw – test your skills
Come test your skills! The Cpl. Terry L. Smith Gymnasium will have a free throw
contest Friday, Feb. 14 starting at 12:30 p.m. The event is open to authorized patrons
age 18 and older. Registration ends Feb. 11. Contestants have one minute to shoot 15
basketballs from the free throw line. The contestant who makes the most shorts will be
declared champion, and prizes will be awarded for the top three performers.

Prostate Cancer Support Group Meetings at Belvoir
The Prostate Cancer Support Group meets at Fort Belvoir Community Hospital the
2nd Thursday of every month. Next meeting will be Thursday, Feb. 13 from 1 to 2 p.m.
and from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the Urology Clinic, Sunrise Pavilion, 2nd floor.

Prostate Cancer Support Group Meetings at Walter Reed
The Prostate Cancer Support Group meets at Walter Reed National Military Medical
Center the 3rd Thursday of every month. The next meeting will be Thursday, Feb. 20
from 1 to 2 p.m. and from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the America Building, River Conference
Room (next to the Prostate Center), 3rd floor. Spouses/partners invited. Military ID
required for base access to Walter Reed. For those without a military ID, call Prostate

the military services, the Department of Defense ASBP has many components working
together to collect, process, store, distribute and transfuse blood worldwide.

Civilian employees need annual leave assistance
JBM-HH Directorate of Families and Morale, Welfare and Recreation employee
Leonard Toyer, Directorate of Human Resources employee Edward Green, Directorate
of Public Works employees Myrtle Bowen and Rich Richards, Directorate of Plans,
Training, Mobilization and Security employee Shari Dixon, and Rader Health Clinic
employee Frank Housen are approved recipients of the civilian personnel annual leave
donor program. Due to medical issues, they have exhausted both sick and annual leave.
Department of the Army civilian employees who would like to donate annual leave
to Toyer, Green, Housen, Bowen, Richards and Dixon must fill out Form OPM 630A,
"Request to Donate Annual Leave to Leave Recipient Under the Voluntary Leave
Transfer Program (Within Agency)" at www.opm.gov/forms/pdf_fill/opm630a.pdf.
If you are a federal government civilian employee outside the Department of the
Army and want to donate annual leave to Toyer, Green, Housen, Bowen, Richards and

6. ACAP supports spouses in transition
Army Career and Alumni Program offers services to the spouses of military
personnel who are transitioning: both retiring or ETSing (Expiration of Term in Service).
Some of the services offered to transitioning spouses include one-on-one assistance
with a resume, a Veterans Affairs benefits briefing, Department of Labor Employment
Workshop (includes the interview process, dress for success, building a resume, salary
negotiation) and financial planning.
More services include classes on home buying, credit scores, investing, TRICARE,
finding and applying for federal jobs and much more.
If your spouse is preparing to transition from the military -- retiring or ETSing, make
an appointment with ACAP.

Applications for Scholarships for Military Children available
Applications for the 2014 Scholarships Program are available at the commissary on
the Fort Myer side of the joint base and online at www.militaryscholar.org.
Applications must be turned in to a commissary by close of business Feb. 28, 2014.
Packages must be hand-delivered or shipped via U.S. Postal Service or other delivery
methods, not emailed or faxed.
This year's award amount has risen to $2,000, and the program awards at least one
scholarship at each commissary with qualified applicants. Applicants should ensure
that they and their sponsor are enrolled in the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting
System (DEERS) database and have a military ID card.

Army Officers Wives Club of the Greater Washington Area offers
child, spouse scholarships
The Army Officers Wives Club of the Greater Washington Area provides
scholarships for children (high school students and college students) and spouses of U.
S. Army personnel. Funds for the scholarships are from the Fort Myer Thrift Shop.
Applications for the three programs must be mailed to the Thrift Shop by March 28,
2014.

Family Readiness
Anger Management workshops offered
Marine & Family Programs offers anger management workshops weekly,
Wednesdays from 9 to 11 a.m. The workshops are designed to teach eight tools for
managing anger. Participants may start at any time, but must attend all eight sessions to
receive a certificate of completion.
Sessions are in Building 12’s conference room on the Henderson Hall portion of the
joint base. The workshops are open to active duty personnel, their family members, and

Stress workshops held Tuesdays
Marine & Family Programs offers workshops on coping with work and family stress
on an ongoing basis. The 12-session, evidence-based series, designed to teach strategies
for dealing with stressors, is held Tuesdays, from 2:30 to 4 p.m., in Bldg. 12’s conference
room on the Henderson Hall portion of the joint base. Topics include identifying
stressors, deep breathing and muscle relaxation, assertive communication, changing

8. yourself talk, eating right, exercise and developing a personal stress management plan.
The workshops are open to active duty personnel, their family members and military
retirees.

Transparenting
This two-part seminar Monday, Feb. 3 and 10 from 9 to 11 a.m., is designed to
provide parents who are separated or divorced with the tools to ensure they are able to
continue supporting and encouraging their children despite the breakup of the family
unit. Class is held in the ACS classroom in Building 201 on the Fort Myer side of the
joint base.

Play, Learn, Grow – The 5 Love Languages of Children
Parents bring your children (ages 0-5) Thursday, Feb. 13 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. for a
time of play, crafts and stories. Parents will be given an overview of the concept of a
Love Language, and be given a copy of the book “The Five Love Languages of
Children.” The book includes instructions for the “Love Languages Mystery Game” for
families to play at home. Class is held in the ACS classroom in Building 201 on the Fort
Myer side of the joint base.

Anger Management
Learn about the basic principles of emotions management Wednesday, Feb. 19 from
9 to 11 a.m. in the ACS classroom in Building 201 on the Fort Myer side of the joint base.
Get specific information about the impact of unmanaged anger, and get resources on
how to recognize and manage the anger triggers in your own life. Registration
required. Class is held in the ACS classroom in Building 201 on the Fort Myer side of
the joint base.

Baby Bundles
Prepare your home and relationship for the changes that are needed when your baby
arrives in “Baby Bundles,” Friday, Jan. 31 from noon to 2 p.m. in the Army Community
Service classroom, Building 201 on the Fort Myer side of the joint base. A brief overview
of the labor and delivery process, newborn care and baby-proofing your home will be
discussed. Upon completion of this class you will receive a bag of free baby care and
safety items.

Traffic, roads and grounds
New – Columbia Pike and Washington Boulevard Weekend Closures
Columbia Pike will be closed in both directions between South Queen Street and
South Orme Street for the next three weekends as crews finish demolishing the old
Washington Boulevard bridge. Closures will be over the next three weekends (Jan. 31Feb. 2, Feb. 7-9 and Feb. 14-16), from 9 p.m. each Friday to 4:30 a.m. Monday. Traffic
will be detoured around the work zone via the interchange ramps and temporary
pavement.
This work is part of the $51.5 million project to replace the Washington Boulevard
bridge over Columbia Pike. See
