the Camp Zama Army Substance Abuse Program,

    on the second Wednesday of each month.

Transition from Heating to Cooling Season

           Intermittent heating is scheduled
       until mid-April. Heating will be provided
              based on following criteria:

68 degrees Fahrenheit or below (from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m.)
55 degrees Fahrenheit or below (from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.)
Transition from Heating to Cooling Season

       Following the intermittent heating period,
             the Directorate of Public Works
will transition into a “No Heating/No Cooling” period,
which will allow DPW to perform necessary preventive
      maintenance, checks and services required
               on air-conditioning systems
throughout the installation prior to the cooling period.

       Based on historical weather records,
    the intermittent cooling period is projected
         to begin on or around early June.
  Implementation of the cooling period is based
on an outside heat index of 78 degrees Fahrenheit
        or higher for five consecutive days.

Same-Day Appointments at MEDDAC-J
       In an effort to improve access to care,
             Army Medicine is moving to
         a same-day appointment system,
           also known as “Open Access.”
    The intent is to do today's work today and
offer same-day appointments whenever possible.

         To accommodate this intent,
the BG Sams Health Clinic is offering increased
           same-day appointments
       as much as the schedule permits.
   Call 263-4175 to make an appointment.
   Walk-ins will be given the same options
      as call-in patients, but calling in
     is the preferred method of access.
Same-Day Appointments at MEDDAC-J
   When appointments are no longer available,
 patients will be referred to the Takahashi Clinic,
                located near Gate 1
(closed on Wednesdays, but open on Saturdays).
  Other options include the Yokota Urgent Care
     or the Yokosuka Emergency Department.

CLEP/DSST: Monday through Thursday, 1:30 to 3 p.m
              Pearson Vue: Friday, 2 to 6 p.m.
         For CLEP, DSST and Pearson Vue exams,
  appointments and questions, call 263-469 Monday

Reminder of Pet Owners’ Responsibilities
 The following list of responsibilities for pet owners
      living on Camp Zama, Sagamihara Family
   Housing Area and Sagami Depot was released
         by the Housing Management Division:
      - Sponsors are responsible for cleaning the areas
        used by their pets.
      - If kept outside, the pet’s area must be policed daily
        to prevent a buildup of trash and fecal material.
Reminder of Pet Owners’ Responsibilities

     - Owners must clean up waste left by their pet
       during walks.
     - Fecal droppings must be disposed of in sealed
       plastic bags (preferably double bags) and be
       placed in garbage receptacles.
     - Un-bagged waste must not be placed in garbage
       receptacles.

Pass Procedure for Cherry Blossom Festival

Access to the Visitor Control Center and Gate 1
                 will be limited
        between 10 a.m. and 7:30 p.m.
  for inbound and outbound vehicle traffic.

   Gate passes will not be issued at Gate 4
         during this time on April 6.

    but visitor/vehicle passes will not be issued
and USAG-J form 1529 entrance will not be accepted.

    SOFA members who need to get a visitor pass

   The Office of the Secretary of Defense
    has delayed the release of furlough
proposal notices to all civilian employees for
        approximately two weeks.

Food Handling and Preparation Course
     Private organizations that are providing or
  selling food to the general public of Camp Zama

    are required to attend a Safe Food Handling
 and Preparation Class, which lasts approximately
two hours, and includes a PowerPoint presentation
                immediately followed
    by a 20-question multiple-choice-format test.

Household Goods Weight Allowance Change

                Effective Dec. 1, 2011,
weight allowance to and from Japan was reduced
       for all Soldiers to 2,500 pounds (net)
   or 25 percent (net) of full weight allowance,
               or whichever is greater.
 All civilians are authorized 4,500 pounds (net).
      Unaccompanied baggage is inclusive.

Portions of the roads on the east side of Bldg. 350 and
also D Street on Camp Zama will be closed to install
underground steam piping as part of an ongoing
construction initiative.
The closure dates are as follows:

Notice of
   Suspension of Tuition Assistance
           Due to current fiscal challenges,
       the secretary of the Army has approved
        the suspension of Tuition Assistance
              effective March 8 at 5 p.m.
 The suspension applies to all components and
will remain effect until the fiscal situation matures.
  Soldiers will no longer be permitted to submit
         new requests for Tuition Assistance
            through the GoArmyEd portal.

       in courses approved for tuition assistance
            are not affected and will be allowed
          to complete current course enrollment.
 Soldiers can continue to access their GI Bill benefits,

(grants, scholarships or Army National Guard Soldiers
              using state Tuition Assistance).

2013 Road Tax Program

The 2013 Road Tax Program, during
which vehicle owners can pay
their Japanese Road Tax and be issued
their 2013 USFJ vehicle decal,
is scheduled to take place April 16 through 19
at the Camp Zama Community Club's
Firelite Lounge.

Cost for the renewal, all payments for which

Mail Room is tentatively scheduled to open April 29.
Combinations for boxes at the new Mail Room will be

Residual mail will be transferred from the current Mail Room
April 26 after closing (6 p.m.), and mail will be processed
and ready for pickup at the new location on April 29.

 When disaster strikes, emergency responders
 address the most critical needs and may not
even be able to get to an area until it is deemed
 safe. While they work on behalf of the entire
 community, it is your responsibility to ensure
your family’s well-being during times of crisis.
 Emergency kits to sustain for 72 hours are an
   essential tool for meeting that challenge.
Make a Plan
• Ensure everyone understands the plan, and practices.
• How to communicate during an emergency.
• Consider what to do, where to go, what to take.
• Plan for members with disabilities or special needs.
• Include pets in family plan.
• Report status through ADPAAS.

A portion of 1st Avenue near the Camp Zama gas station will be

  • 1. Monthly Alcohol Safety Seminar An alcohol safety seminar, coordinated by the Camp Zama Army Substance Abuse Program, is scheduled to be held April 25 at 1 p.m. at the Community Activity Center here.
  • 2. Monthly Alcohol Safety Seminar The seminar, titled “Alcohol and High Adventure Do Not Mix,” is open to all Soldiers, Department of the Army civilians, retires and family members assigned to the installation. John Senatore will be the guest speaker. Call 263-8059 for more information.

  • 4. Transition from Heating to Cooling Season Intermittent heating is scheduled until mid-April. Heating will be provided based on following criteria: 68 degrees Fahrenheit or below (from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m.) 55 degrees Fahrenheit or below (from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.)
  • 5. Transition from Heating to Cooling Season Following the intermittent heating period, the Directorate of Public Works will transition into a “No Heating/No Cooling” period, which will allow DPW to perform necessary preventive maintenance, checks and services required on air-conditioning systems throughout the installation prior to the cooling period.
  • 6. Transition from Heating to Cooling Season Based on historical weather records, the intermittent cooling period is projected to begin on or around early June. Implementation of the cooling period is based on an outside heat index of 78 degrees Fahrenheit or higher for five consecutive days. Call 263-4035 or 263-3965 for more information.
  • 7. Same-Day Appointments at MEDDAC-J In an effort to improve access to care, Army Medicine is moving to a same-day appointment system, also known as “Open Access.” The intent is to do today's work today and offer same-day appointments whenever possible.
  • 8. Same-Day Appointments at MEDDAC-J To accommodate this intent, the BG Sams Health Clinic is offering increased same-day appointments as much as the schedule permits. Call 263-4175 to make an appointment. Walk-ins will be given the same options as call-in patients, but calling in is the preferred method of access.

Reminder of Pet Owners’ Responsibilities The following list of responsibilities for pet owners living on Camp Zama, Sagamihara Family Housing Area and Sagami Depot was released by the Housing Management Division: - Sponsors are responsible for cleaning the areas used by their pets. - If kept outside, the pet’s area must be policed daily to prevent a buildup of trash and fecal material.

  • 14. Pass Procedure for Cherry Blossom Festival Access to the Visitor Control Center and Gate 1 will be limited between 10 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. for inbound and outbound vehicle traffic. Gate passes will not be issued at Gate 4 during this time on April 6.
  • 15. Pass Procedure for Cherry Blossom Festival Gate 7 will operate as normal, but visitor/vehicle passes will not be issued and USAG-J form 1529 entrance will not be accepted. SOFA members who need to get a visitor pass on April 6 will be require to obtain it at the Visitor Control Center at Gate 1 before 10 a.m.

Post Office New Hours of Operation The operation hours at the Camp Zama Main Post Office have been revised as follows: Monday through Thursday: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.  The Main Post Office is no longer open on weekends. Saturday mail service is available at the Naval Air Facility Atsugi Post Office.
