This document discusses fast channel zapping for IP video delivery. It proposes a destination-oriented multicast assisted zapping acceleration (DAZA) scheme. DAZA uses time-shifted subchannels to ensure a bounded zapping delay while maintaining picture quality during zapping. It analyzes the optimal subchannel data rate and addresses a start-up effect. DAZA implements scalable time-shifted subchannels using destination-oriented multicast independently of zapping request signaling delay. Simulation results demonstrate DAZA's validity and performance benefits over traditional IP multicast for large distributed systems.
