Effects of Cartoon on Children
Effects of cartoons on children
INtroDucTioN:Cartoons have been a staple of childhood development since the early 20th
century. Two thirds of infants and toddlers watch an average of two hours of television a day,
according to a recent study. While watching cartoons, a child s brain processes graphic images,
educational information and violent acts. These brain stimulating factors have both positive and
negative effects on children s development. Cartoons are the most frequent and easily accessible
source of entertainment which we provide to our children. With the vastness of media and
extension of channels, it has become easier for children to watch their favorite cartoons on a single
click and at the same time it has become more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Regardless of the effects, children must have a balanced lifestyle that includes exercise and outdoor
activity.
Violence
* Many cartoons depict scenes of violence or danger, yet whitewash the effects of that violence.
For instance, a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle may beat up a bad guy in one scene, only to see that
bad guy appear unharmed in the next scene. Without proper lessons to counterbalance those effects,
children may grow up aggressive and eager to engage in violence unaware that the real world
contains far more consequences than what a TV show depicts.
Injury
In 2004, Dr. Ruebert Saturnine III presented an argument on the negative effects of cartoons on
children for the Animation World Network, Inc. One of Saturnine s criticisms focused on copycat
incidents where children injured themselves by trying to imitate fictional characters. The first case
of a cartoon related lawsuit occurred in 1928, when a small boy, Dickie Johnson, took his family
s yacht out on a lake as he tried to replicate a cartoon sea captain. Dickie crashed the boat and his
family filed a case against Walt Disney on charges of corrupting a minor. During the trial, Dickie
testified and stated, I thought if a lowly, common mouse could drive a boat, surely I could, too.
Saturnine stated that cases of cartoon related injuries increased steadily each year

Criminology Theories
Criminology Theories Dealing with Characters from Boyz N the Hood
Jamar Tyms
Westwood College
Criminology
Ms. Peete
Abstract
This Paper will discuss what theories can explain the deviant behavior of the characters in the
movie Boyz N the Hood.
What Starts Criminal Behavior? History shows that through life violence is a cycle within itself.
Criminology shows different views on how and why criminal behavior happens. By watching the
movie Boyz in The Hood we see the crimes take place and show why these events happened.
Based off the information from class and from past theories I formulate my own theories of why
crime happens.
The movie Boyz in the Hood is based off ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That s hurts Doughboy and it seems like he is into the streets because that s the only thing that is
giving him the attention that he wants and needs. Doughboy feeds on the attention that he gets
from the streets of L.A. It helps him think he is wanted by people that love him. In his mind it s
a lost relationship with his mother because even if he tries to do stay out of jail, try and do right
by her she still wouldn t care or even notice that he is trying to build a mother son bond between
them. So it gets to the point where he seeks and gets revenge on the guys who killed his brother
Ricky. And he doesn t care if their guys come back in retaliation to kill him. There was a quote
he said in the movie saying either they don t know, don t show, or don t care about what s going
on in the hood. He has a good point because the people that do care is either scared to say
anything or has never lived in the ghetto before so they can only go by what other people say that s
happening in the streets.
Most people get killed over what is known as the Code of The Street. In the movie it shows that
their code of the street was revenge. They killed Ricky Doughboy and his friends killed them. It
also shows that violence and crime happens all over something petty. In one scene in the movie
they show Ferris walking into Ricky

Franz Kafka Literary Analysis
When a society determines that a group of people is detrimental or dangerous, this designation
often comes from an underlying fear concerning that group of people. Social structures respond to
this fear by isolating, controlling, or destroying the group of people in question. Franz Kafka
juxtaposes Gregor s abnormal body with a conventional human environment to symbolize how
society s perceptions of an outcast changes over time.
Environmental factors which surround an individual accentuates his abnormal features, creating a
negative societal image. Such abnormal features can be acquired in a number of ways. In the case
of Gregor Samsa, he finds himself waking up in the body of a cockroach, while in an environment
which caters to the human body he had possessed. Literally overnight, basic tasks, become a
challenge to Gregor. In his abnormal body, getting out of bed became difficult... as he was so
exceptionally broad. (Kafka 9) Kafka displays how Gregor would ve normally had his arms and
his hands to push himself up; but instead of them he only had all those little legs continuously
moving in different directions... (Kafka 9) Extricating himself from a human environment
highlighted the shortcomings of his new cockroach body. This is shown again when attempting to
return to his room after seeking out the Chief Clerk. Gregor s large flat body provides resistance,
so he pushed himself into the doorway without regard for what might happen. One side of his body

Bank Medici Ag Essay
Founded by Sonja Khon in 1994, Bank Medici AG was a bank located in Vienna, Austria. It
became incorporated as a bank in 2003. The bank s president and majority stakeholder is the
founder, Sonja Khon. Its major institutional shareholder is Austria s biggest banking group, Bank

Prosecutors from the United States, United Kingdom and Austria investigate Ms. Sonja Khon on
her involvement business with Bernad L. Madoff. He is a former NASDAQ chairman and
founder of the Wall Street firm Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities LLC (BLMIS). For about
23 years, it is alleged that Khon, operating mostly from overseas, was the go to link for bankers,
hedge fund managers and wealthy people outside the United States who wanted to invest indirectly,
through feeder funds, in Madoff s financial services.
Khon s relationship with the financier commenced in 1985 to help grow the Vienna based bank,

Things We Didn T See Coming
Things We Didn t See Coming (TWDSC) is a characteristic dystopic novel written by Steven
Amsterdam, which provides insight on the changing human behaviour during continual periods of
environmental volatility. Readers learn about their proposed future of a food less world, heartless
periods of ceaseless rains, breakouts of disease and savagery, through the narrator s lens. While
Amsterdam presents a dystopian future of continuous environmental deterioration, corruption and
disease, there are glimmers of hope brought about by the narrator s attempts to maintain morality
and his relationships with other characters.
Amsterdam illustrates that environmental deterioration is a catalyst of demoralization in humans.
This is shown in Dry Land where narrator s stealing habits are further exploited by his job as an
evacuation officer of Land Management . He ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His illustration of loss of democracy during environmental and social breakdown further frightens
the readers. It demonstrates the corruption of society through the megalomaniac character of Juliet,
who is shown to charming and extremely photogenic on the outside, however is portrayed as an
emotionally exploitative leader on the inside. She got famous by showing up at the front of all the
protests , however her concern for the common man is a facade. This is demonstrated through her
extreme wealth, where she owns her own vineyards and an island . Under the deliberate influence
of drugs, she even burns down the forest with Margo and the narrator, symbolizing environmental
and moral destruction at the hands of corruption. Thus her exploitation of her position, provides
little hope to the reader about political stability, as she is enjoying her life at the expense of the
rights of the common

Outline Of The AFLP Procedure (RFLP)
Figure 7. Outline of the AFLP procedure (Vuylsteke et al., 2007)
(2) Restriction fragment length polymorphisms (RFLP)
When utilizing PCR RFLP, a DNA fragment is first amplified by PCR, then it is digested by a
certain restriction endonuclease to generate a restriction polymorphic profile for the test subject
species (Shaw et al., 2002). PCR amplification should be highly conserved among a species so that
it can be easily amplified. Each fragment length is considered an allele, and RFLP occurs when the
length of a detected fragment varies between individuals.
(3) Random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD)
RAPD is effective in screening the differences in DNA sequences. The RAPD markers are also
DNA fragments from PCR amplification,

Critical Appreciation Of John Keats
British Romantic Literature Assignment (Semester IV)
Nayan Srivastava (1116)
Keats s Escape from Reality
John Keats, a second generation Romantic poet, is considered the perfect Romantic poet. His works
have been read, appreciated and studied across the world, though this was not done during his
lifetime. Only in the twentieth century did Keats get due credit and respect for the complexity of
his odes, his pursuit of truth and beauty and dealing with human difficulty and suffering.
The Romantic poets, as a whole, strived for perfection. Romanticism grew as an opposition to the
Enlightenment Age or the Age of Reason and as a result the poets focused on emotion, motives and
imagination. Keats is known for his aestheticism, sensuousness and captivating imagery in his
works. On analysis of his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This ode is the simplest of all his odes and describes the scenes of autumn as a season of
abundance. It has a mellow tone and this ode picks up where all the others left off. The simple
and sincere appreciation of the season and its reflections in nature as well as the calm
acceptance of the upcoming winter project Keats as an evolved individual. Even though a
season too is transient in nature, he is inspired in its fleeting beauty and does not yearn
permanence as in Ode on a Grecian Urn . Keats preoccupation with mortality and death as in Ode
to A Nightingale , too simmers down in this work. The wafting wind is described as living or
dying, and the use of these words emphasize an acceptance on his behalf about the natural
inevitability of this process. Winter is viewed as a season of absolute decay when everything
freezes, and hence To Autumn can be seen as a period prior to the death when one begins to
accept one s fate and does not fear death anymore. This ode essentially provides a serene and
tranquil closure to all the other odes that preceded this and places Keats in a more stable position in

Persuasive Essay On Acadia National Park
Michael Forme once said, A national park is not a playground. It s a sanctuary for nature and for
humans who will accept nature on nature s own terms. In a technology focused world, national
parks allow us to escape everyday life and focus on nature and all it has to teach us. In July of
2017 my family went on our fifth trip to Acadia National Park. Acadia is located on Mount Desert
Island in Maine, which is actually a peninsula that has only two ways to enter: by car on a
singular, two lane road or by boat. This remote location allows for peace and seclusion that is
difficult to find throughout our country. On the fourth day of our ten day trip, I would experience
something that would drive home a statement I had known for years: unfortunately, for all the
beauty and peace hikingcan expose you to, your safety is not guaranteed. That day, my family and
I planned to hike the Acadia Mountain and St. Sauveur Mountain Trail Loop, which totals in at
about 3.8 miles and is rated strenuous by the most Acadia hiking guides, with the addition of the
Flying Mountain trail, which is about 1.5 miles. This meant the hike would be just over five
miles, which would not usually be challenging for experienced hikers, but much of this hike is
uphill, across uneven, rocky surfaces. Before hiking, my mother and I had sat down to research
the trail. Again and again, guide book after guide book, the steepness and rockiness of this trail
was noted, but we weren t worried. We had done

Abortion and Disability
With reference to abortion, examine and comment upon the issues that emerge from keeping up
with developments in medical ethics, whilst maintaining religious principles and/or ethical values.
(Total for Question 1 = 50 marks)
There are several issues that arise when it comes to the development in medical ethics whilst also
maintaining religious principles and ethical values. The development of medical knowledge has
allowed for humans to practice different ways in helping society. But these new discoveries have
found to clash with religious principles and ethical values. This can be related to the topic of
abortion as it goes against monotheistic religious teachings.
In the 21st Century it is allowed for a mother to abort a healthy ... Show more content on

Living in a world set up and built for able bodied people, it s difficult for a disabled person to be
brought up and adapt to carry out even the most simplest of everyday tasks. Aborting a disabled
foetus may not intentionally be biologically discriminating, but instead, weighing up the
consequences of continuing with the pregnancy until the stage of giving birth, taking into account
what life will be like for the foetus in the future.
To conclude, I believe that abortion should only be considered concerning the best interest of
the foetus because that is what is seen to be ethically right (by ending the possibility of suffering
and low quality of life that the foetus may have to endure if it was to be born). Situation Ethics,
devised by Joseph Fletcher could be a religious stance as to why the allowance of abortion for
disabled foetuses may be in accordance to religious principles also. For example, dependent on
the severity of a disability of a foetus, it might be reasonable to suggest aborting a foetus because
it would be the most loving thing to do. Agape love, the kind of love Jesus had for everyone in
which this theory teaches us to practice.

The Chosen Ones By Pablo Neruda Analysis
Resuscitation Pablo Neruda s poem The Chosen Ones is a perfect incorporation of torment and
influence, acting to sadden as well as impact the reader to influence further action against
intolerance. Neruda uses allusion when referencing the years of events of significant suffering
that are important in Cuban and world history, recalling his own first hand experiences himself,
and the significance of understanding these dates and events. Neruda uses a tone that is
volatile, characterized by an increase in imagery, especially of death and violence, as the piece
goes on. Neruda uses a couplet at the end to shift the poem from lengthy description of violence
and death, to a sardonic reference of those who were killed, operating as a call to action. This
poem uses allusion, tone, and personification to exemplify violence as a result of prejudice and
their legacy forgotten. Neruda s use of historical allusion is significant as several dates
mentioned are specificexamples of genocide, especially as a result of hatred towards complex
institutions of race, nationality, and religion. In this piece Neruda references several dates:
1925, 1926, 1933, 1940, 1918, 1905, and thousands of nineteen hundreds (Neruda,1). Each date
representative of a significantly negative event in world history; However several dates also
coincide with important years in Cuban history. For example, in the year 1925, Gerardo
Machado was elected Cuba s president, he would resist the rise of a healthy labor movement,
which he would enforce using deportation and police brutality. Cuba s economic downfall would
lead to uprisings in the future, all ultimately having Cuban legislature and law enforcement being
taken advantage of, while at the same time several mass killings world arise before crimes against
humanity would be identified and prosecuted at the International Military Tribunal in Nuremberg.
Neruda s first hand experiences with oppression and fascism growing up in Cuba allowed many
to learn from the Chilean because he offered a way of identifying with the masses and engaging
the problems of society (Pettingell, 3). Neruda s use of allusion allows the hatred from these mass
killings to be tied in with the selfishness and extortion of

Hamlet Soliloquy Compare And Contrast
Here are two extremely famous productions both portraying one of the most famous speeches of
all time, Hamlet s To be or not to be soliloquy. Kenneth Branagh s version is approximately three
minutes and ten seconds, while Franco Zeffirelli is about three minutes and thirty five seconds.
Branagh chose himself to be the star of his own play, while Zeffirelli chose a young Mel Gibson.
This soliloquy occurs in Act 3 scene 1.
Both of the directors takes on this scene could not have been more different. In the two versions,
the physical appearance of Hamlet is practically opposite. Branagh presented himself with bright
blonde hair and very strange goatee and mustache, he looks like royalty. To contrast, Mel Gibson
looks more like an average person wearing all black. Branagh is in the middle of his huge castle,

Branagh has Polonius and Claudius spying on him from the other side of the mirror. He then
has Hamlet speak into the mirror that they are hiding behind. By doing this, he has the audience
in suspense because you have no idea if Hamlet knows that they are actually behind it. Branagh
does not seem insane in that he would take his own life, rather he is enraged and searching for
revenge. In this version we are left to wonder if Hamlet is talking to himself or to Polonius and
Claudius. This also goes along with the recurring theme of the play, appearance vs reality. In
Zeffirelli version, he has Hamlet alone in a dark tomb which symbolizes death and sorrow. This
Hamlet is very much contemplating committing suicide. It also emphasizes his great depression.
Zeffirelli has Hamlet in a tomb with really low lighting and is taken in multiple shots(edited a lot).
This enables the scene to focus on the pain in Hamlets voice and

How To Lose Weight Essay
My life was almost like an endless routine that went on continuously with no end. Sure, there
were some highlights of my life but I guess I lived a normal life . Change was something I had
never truly experienced before high school. One night at the local bowling alley there was a dance
for the high school students. I went with some my friends and we were just chilling at a table. It
was typical high schooldance, girls on one side and guys on the other side. Everyone was taking
their pictures and soon I was asked to take picture a with my older friend, Alex. We took the picture
of each of us holding dollar bills in our hands. One of my friends later told me I looked fat in the
picture. I looked at repeatedly in denialbecause I couldn t believe what he had said. I kept making
up excuses of why I admittedly, looked a bit over weigh. Later, that week a couple of my friends
could tell I was feeling down. I simply played it off as stress caused from school which what any
sissy would do. I came to the realization that I was overweight. I started researching ways to lose
weightand found a bunch of ways to lose weight. The problem was I didn t know how to lose
weight to I just decided to eat three times a day with no snacks. It had been about 3 weeks since I
started trying to lose weight and I was at the gym playing basketball. My friend, Eric said You
look skinnier, have you lost weight? This made me feel like I had accomplished something.

I can relate to being a teenage girl. Fearing the worse, that someone will see evidence that my

see some in a soft pastel pink. The ad contains a package of tampons with a heart shape on the
box. The heart gives the feeling of sensitivity and is appealing to female emotions. All women
can relate to the feeling of menstrual cycles. Most women feel sluggish, and bloated with water
weight. With the font being very tall and stick like, it takes away the feeling of bloating and gives
more of a tall and slender feel. The words used in the ad are also very persuasive. When thinking
of a menstrual cycle, the words that come to my mind are dirty, bothersome, and bulky. The ad
clearly changes my mind by using such words as protection, clean, carefree, small and compact.
The brand Tampax has been around for several years. The fact that they have a product they now
call Tampax Pearl is a clever way to advertise, as many consumers relate pearl to the color white
and the color white to cleanliness. In order for Tampax to persuade consumers to buy their product
they effectively used popular teenage role models, genuine settings, props, and context that is
clearly relatable to teenage girls. Good advertising approaches like role models and relatability help
consumers to make tough decisions when picking one brand over another. With this ad

Jobs Where Stress Never Ends
Jobs Where Stress Never Ends
The world population is rising at an extreme rate, making it harder for people to find a job for a
living so that almost every job in this highly competitive world is increasingly stressful. Can
anyone find a job that has no stress? Perhaps, the answer for this question is always no because
stress actually comes from many sources whether people like it or not. For example, stress comes
from bosses, colleagues, wages, and job pressures. Stress mostly depends on the type of job. There
are many types of jobs that are stressful, but people often think about the top three stressful jobs
such as police officers, airline pilots, and firefighters.
One of the most stressful jobs is to be a police officer. Three causes that make police officers
stressed are working long hours and unusual shifts, strictly conforming to non disclosure policy, and
dealing with many kinds of perpetrators. First, working long hours and unusual shifts makes them
stressed because they cannot spend enough time with their family and take care of their children.
They start working in the early mornings but get off duty late at nights. Working during weekends
does not become an unusual task for their job, and sometimes they unexpectedly have to report to
duty due to serious cases. They unintentionally lose a lot of good chances to celebrate holidays or
birthday parties together with their family. Their jobs bring in a lot of stress for them. Second, they

Who s Afraid Of Virginia Woolf Essay
Who s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? and The Birth of the MPAA Ratings System
The 1960s were a volatile time and an important season of change in American history. The
revolutions in social mores that the country experienced extended to the cinema. Previously, films
sought the endorsement of production associations and religious organizations. That trend began
to be challenged by bold directors and their films that earned success without the approval of these
establishments. With its brash dialogue and suggestive situations, Mike Nichols screen adaptation

films in the 50 s and 60 s, leading to content changes as well the advisory of who should see it.

At this meeting, Valenti suggested a one time exemption for the film, citing many reasons,
including the NCOMP s shocking decision to give the film an A IV rating (Leff 50). The voting

script. Who s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? was released in theaters on June 22, 1966, with a special

success, staying atop the summer box office and becoming the second highest grossing film of the
year. It also received critical acclaim; being nominated in every category of the Academy Awards

Chickens Range Free Language Analysis
Chickens Range Free Language Analysis
Following the recent incident in a Melbourne suburb during which hundreds of chickens were
illegally released from cages on a truck, writer Jo Smith contended in his opinion piece Chickens
Range Free issued on January 2009 that our actions towards farm chickens are both inhumane and
brutal. The piece draws attention to us as the human species, the need to raise awareness, the desire
to stop such inhumane treatment and to enact action by supporting the activists who freed the
chickens in an attempt to encourage readers to feel a sense of empathy as an act which
disadvantages both themselves and others. The opinion piece was also accompanied by a

Pros And Cons Of The 1920s
After WWI, the United States entered an era of conservative values and a supposed return to
normalcy. The 1920s were marked by a desire to return to the way of life before the left leaning
reforms of the Progressive Era and WWI. However, the nation was not unified during the decade.
Many rifts began to form in American society and economy. The 1920s were marked by discord
among many Americans in the areas of immigration, religion, and with the issue of socialism,
marked especially by the Red Scare. When it came to the topic of immigration, nativists largely won
during the 1920s. In response to nativist demands, the government introduced literacy tests in 1917.
This measure to restrict immigration helped pave the way for even more strict regulations in the
1920s. Beginning in 1920, the government began to introduce quotas to further regulate
immigration. While President Wilson was opposed to such regulations, newly elected President
Harding was in favor of them. Under Harding, quotas became increasingly strict over the first half
of the decade, culminating with the Immigration Act of 1924. The Act restricted anyone who was
ineligible for becoming a citizen of the United States from even immigrating into the county. People
of Asian descent, for instance, were previously restricted from becoming US citizens and were
therefore unable to even immigrate into the country under the Act. Because of these restrictions,
immigration rates plummeted. Nativism was rampant in

To Whom It May Concern, My name is Keegan Drawe and I have been educating myself
regarding the movement for the English Only movement in the state of Nevada. I have been made
aware of many states, more so than not, that have moved forward in passing the English Only bill;
the last state being West Virginia, which was the 32nd state to recognize English as the official
language. I feel it is important for the state of Nevada to continue to move forward with this
movement and continue to progress that many of our neighboring states have made. Since the early
1800 s, our nation has been trying to adopt English as a universal language among our citizens.
Louisiana, in 1807, was the first state to begin this movement in its constitution as a condition to
admittance to the Union. After the Mexican American War in 1848, there were several tens of
thousands Spanish speaking civilians that moved into our country, and this didn t include the other
non English speaking people who lived among us. While we remain to be a free country, we are a
people who needs to be on the same page. Laws and education need to remain consistent throughout.

Sidewinder Snakes
Dr. Joseph Mendelson from the Georgia Institute of Technology and Atlanta Zoo presented his
research on the mechanism used by sidewinder snakes for locomotion on sand with the
implementation of a robot snake as a model system. The research study involved the collaboration
of the physics, engineering and biology departments to further understand the nature of snake
movements. Sidewinders are snakes that are able to move on sand at different inclinations because
they do not slither but rather employ a different mechanism of movement. Dr. Mendelson was able
to determine that the robot snake which mimics a snake that slithers is unable to move on sand
with an inclination greater than zero degrees. The research involved the use of a sandbox which...

From the observations of snakes in nature, the results showed that their locomotion is truly
optimized based on their repeated operations being maintained in an effective zone. The robot
snake was manipulated with different durations and amounts of lifts and contacts that would vary,
but be maintained in the ineffective zone due to the failed movement on sand. Another research
study involved the examination of the mechanisms employed by sidewinders for turning in a
different direction of movement. The results suggested that sidewinders change directions
horizontally or vertically by changing the angle of their head. An analysis of the robot snake
demonstrated an unobservable locomotion that it is possible to move in both a horizontal and
vertical wave movement on the sand in order to change directions via a differential or reversal
turning locomotion. Through the investigation of these research studies, Dr. Mendelson and his
co researchers were able to discover that in effect sidewinders suffer a cost of being able to
implement a different locomotion on inclinations of sand. Sidewinders are not able to avoid
obstacles as easily as snakes that slither which can just turn their heads in a slight angle away
from the obstacle in order to avoid it. The results showed that the reason for this cost is due to the
mechanism that sidewinders use for which the head does not reach the obstacle first to avoid the
obstacle beforehand instead of being tangled by it with their body. A study that is currently being
conducted involves the investigation of the interface between a floor substrate and the skin of a

The September 11th Attacks And Its Impact On The United...
The September 11th attacks became a turning point in the evolution of security systems and models
in the United States. These horrific events also challenged the security status quo around the globe.
The current evidence suggests that the level of planning in the September 11th attacks was truly
unprecedented. The complexity of the activities, systems, resources, and decisions involved
eventually translated into a terrorist attack of enormous scope and magnitude. The September 11th
acts of terrorismset the stage for reconsidering the effectiveness of all airport security
methodologies and techniques. The concern continues to be whether or not the continued
improvements that are needed to ensure that the measures implemented to boost airport security do
not violate the rights of passengers.
For the passengers of the four flights hijacked on September 11, 2001, that day became the end
of everything. According to the 9/11 Commission (2004), one of the first flights to be boarded
was American 11 in Boston. In the meantime, passengers of United 175 were checking in for their
flight (9/11 Commission, 2004). The hijackers of both flights passed a number of security checks
and, without any suspicion, boarded both planes. Their aircraft pushed back from the gates without
any delays (9/11 Commission, 2004). At that same time, a group of hijackers was checking in at the
American Airlines flight 77 to Los Angeles (9/11 Commission, 2004). They passed routine security

Reflection Paper On Cheers
It was March 2017, and the tryout cheers had just been put on Moodle. I had already been
practicing my tumbling skills at Corner House for about five months, but I still wasn t confident
with my skills. We had cheer camp for the next week to go over the cheers and how the tryout
process was going to go. During the week I had gotten pretty good at the cheers but I lost my
runningtumbling from being so nervous. This made me so scared for tryouts and I thought for
sure I wasn t going to make the team, especially compared to other girls who had outstanding
tumbling skills. I knew that now I couldn t rely on my tumbling to get me on the team so I
focused on my jumps and cheers. It was the night before tryouts and I couldn t sleep because of my
nerves. Later that night at around 3:00 AM, I threw upfrom thinking about it so much. I stayed up
the rest of the night practicing my cheers as quietly as I could without waking my sister or my
parents up.
When it was finally time to go to the tryouts I was getting ready and now I was worried I was
going to be late even though I had plenty of time. While I was putting my hair up in a ponytail, I
wasn t able to get it up without hair sticking out on the sides. Once I realized I was just going to
have to deal with it, I started putting my bow in. I was rushing because I lost a lot of time with all
the times of trying to get my ponytail perfect. I was twisting my bow around for the third time to

Fox Hunting Should Be Banned Essay
Fox hunting is one form of hunting. It is a pursuit of a wild fox with a pack of hounds, which
are specially bred and trained for the sole purpose of fox hunting, and are followed by hunters
who usually ride on horses. When the hounds pick up the scent of a fox, they will follow it until
the fox evades them, goes to ground, or is overtaken and killed by the hounds. This form of hunting
is exercised in several countries around the world, but this essay will concentrate on fox huntingin
the United Kingdom. It has been practiced in Britain for around 300 years, with its popularity at its
height in the late 19th century. The debate concerning fox hunting has heated up in the past few
years.

An opposing view is that the fox is not a serious threat to agriculture, and should not be
considered as a vermin. According to the League Against Cruel Sports the foxes actually help
farmers by eating small animals, such as rabbits, rats and voles, which are considered to be pests
on arable land. In addition, foxes are territorial animals, which means that once a fox is killed
another soon moves into its place from a surrounding area. Left to control their population
naturally the number of foxes would be controlled by scarcity of food, whereas when used fox
hunting for controlling the populations, it only serves to lessen the amount of the animals
temporarily, for more foxes to take advantage of the increase in food thus breeding again.
Furthermore, foxes do not cause significant loss or damage in livestock. For example the League
Against Cruel Sports, an organization strongly against fox hunting, mentions a York University
study that states that only a minimal amount of 0.4% of lambs are killed by foxes, and of other
livestock the percentage is extremely low as well. According to the study foxes are not a
significant danger to livestock.
Supporters of fox hunting present the opinion that foxes do not suffer from stress or pain as a
result of the hunt. According to them, hunting with hounds allows the foxes to be killed
immediately by one nip to the back of the fox s neck, as the dogs are significantly larger than the

The Change In Macbeth And Lady Macbeth s Wickedness
In William Shakespeare s Macbeth, there are multitude of changes throughout the play within
Macbeth and Lady Macbeth s wickedness. A metamorphosis takes place deep inside both
characters; however, the changes oppose each other. The witches chant: The weird sisters, hand in
hand, posters of the sea and land, thus do go about, thrice to thine and thrice to mine and thrice
again, to mine and thrice again, to make up nine. Peace! The charms wound up. (Act 1.2 Lines )
The witches pour prophecies into Macbethgiving him an insight of what is to come in his future as

become King. She thinks to herself: Yet do I fear thy nature it is too full o th milk of human

my tongue all that impedes thee from the golden round. (Act 1.5 Lines 13 15 and Lines 22 25).
When he returns home, she says Look like the time; bear welcome on you eye (Act 1.4 Line 61).
She implies that with the strength she has she will over power Macbeth thought and get him to
the throne to make it their own. Lady Macbeth has a lot in mind and through all the thoughts that
are cramming into her head only one stuck, and it was to kill King Duncan while he is asleep. It
is time for their rebellious move to become the new reign of Scotland. Macbeth is still not up for
the murder of his King because King Duncan is loyal to Macbeth as he is with King Duncan.
Lady Macbeth does not care she would love to go ahead and kill him and become Queen of
Scotland for her to conduct this horrible crime she has in mind. Macbeth and Lady Macbeth
have to wait till everyone leaves the castle. Later on that night, Macbeth is feeling delusional he
starts to imagine the dagger that he will kill King Duncan with. Macbeth says: is this the dagger
which I see before me, the handle toward my hand...A dagger of the mind, a false creation
proceeding from the heat oppressed brain? (Act 2.2 Lines 32 33 and Lines 37 and 38)
Throughout all the trauma, Macbeth loses his mind he kills the King and the guards without
knowing what he was doing. As soon he becomes King of Scotland, he kills with no hesitation.

ATOM Risk Management Paper
Risk management needs to be an ongoing process, occurring throughout the project, because of
the ever changing aspect of risk. ATOM process includes both major and minor reviews to
maintain the vigilance required when dealing with project risk. Major reviews are designed to
occur at key points in the project to review the status of the risks and to evaluate the actions taken.
Reviews evaluate the effectiveness of the riskplan and make changes to that plan to keep up with
the changes in the risks. The major review is scheduled for major milestone points in the project,
identified as part of the risk. managementplan. The risk register should have all the current
information about the risks when the review begins. In addition, the project manager will
provide information with regards to the project status and the review point. The risks will be
reviewed with regards to their status, changes in probability or impact, and the actions described
for the risks. Any new risks will be assessed and actions will be identified. Because risk needs to
be monitored throughout the project and not just at major points, our process would contain
provisions for minor reviews too. Minor reviews are designed to fill the gap between the initial
risk assessment and the major review and to be ongoing throughout the project. It carries out the
reviews of the major review on a less detailed scale. After a review of both, an updated risk
register is produced. Updates to the project plan to better manage potential risks may also be an
outcome of the review. We will have risk review meetings also. Performance measurement system

Feminist Theory Applied to Hamlet
Representing Ophelia: Women, Madness, and the Responsibilities of Feminist Criticism Elaine
Showalter Though she is neglected in criticism, Ophelia is probably the most frequently
illustrated and cited of Shakespeare s heroines. Her visibility as a subject in literature, popular
culture, and painting, from Redon who paints her drowning, to Bob Dylan, who places her on
Desolation Row, to Cannon Mills, which has named a flowery sheet pattern after her, is in inverse
relation to her invisibility in Shakespearean critical texts. Why has she been such a potent and
obsessive figure in our cultural mythology? Insofar as Hamlet names Ophelia as womanand frailty,

According to David Leverenz, in an important essay called The Woman in Hamlet. Hamlet s
disgust at the feminine passivity in himself is translated into violent revulsion against women,
and into his brutal behaviour towards Ophelia. Ophelia s suicide, Leverenz argues, then
becomes a microcosm of the male world s banishment of the female, because woman represents
everything denied by reasonable men. To liberate Ophelia from the text, or to make her its
tragic center, is to re appropriate her for our own ends; to dissolve her into a female symbolism
of absence is to endorse our own marginality; to make her Hamlet s anima is to reduce her to a
metaphor of male experience. I would like to propose instead that Ophelia does have a story of her
own that feminist criticism can tell; it is neither her life story, nor her love story, nor Lacan s story,
but rather the history of her representation. This essay tries to bring together some of the categories
of French feminist thought about the feminine with the empirical energies of American historical
and critical research; to yoke French theory and Yankee knowhow. Tracing the iconography of
Ophelia in English and French painting, photography, psychiatry, and literature, as well as in
theatrical production, I will be showing first of all the representational bonds between female
insanity and female sexuality. Secondly, I

Homeschooling Vs. Private Schools
Education, after all, is a process intended to produce a product. So we have to ask ourselves: What
sort of product is being produced by the current system? (Prose 99). Education is something every
parent wants for their child, but many parents are starting to question modern days public and
private school systems. Nowadays, there are many educational options for students. Homeschooling
is an increasingly popular alternative to public and private schools. Homeschooling has many
advantages and disadvantages, but homeschooling is an option for students to benefit themselves
individually.
Reasons for homeschooling, over attending public or private school, vary greatly. Teyle Carbajal, a

Along with reasons one might choose homeschooling, there are deeper benefits that can enhance a
student s education. One thing homeschooled students do not have are classmates. In a public or
private school there are around twenty five to thirty five kids in one class room. A large amount
of students of all different paces which can cause certain student s education to suffer. Ralph
Waldo Emerson, a well accomplished essayist, gave a speech to college graduates that would
soon be teaching. Emerson said to them, You have to work for large classes instead of
individuals; you must lower your flag and reef your sails to wait for the dull sailors... (Emerson
105). By holding back a class for slow learners, students who learn quicker loose interest. As a
result of lost interest, such students start receiving poor grades. A homeschooled student has no
classmates to hold them back from learning. On the other hand, if a student grasps concepts slower
than most, homeschooling offers more individualized help. A homeschooled student has one
teacher to their self or to share with any siblings, but not thirty four completely different
individuals. Carbajal said If I need any help I can spend as much time as I need... (Carbajal).
Carbajal has an advantage over public school students. She is the only student the teacher must care
about, therefore, Carbajal s teacher will spend as much time needed to help her understand
something fully.

The Conduct of British Generals in World War One In 1914 the First World War, or the Great

Birds In The Scarlet Ibis By James Hurst
The Scarlet Ibis is written by James Hurst is a short story that takes place on a cotton farm in the
south during World War 1. A boy named Doodle dreams about flying because he is not very
mobile. The author uses different types of birds to compare Doodle too. James Hurst used
flying as a metaphor for Doodle throughout the whole story. Since Doodle couldn t mobilize like
the other boys, he dreamed about flying. Brother said, Although Doodle learned to crawl, he
showed no signs of walking, but he wasn t idle(3). Doodle started to walk when he was 5 years
old, but before that, his older brother had to pull him around in a gocart his father had made. His
brother taught him how to walk out of embarrassment. They were talking about lies and dreams
when brother mentioned, People in his stories all had wings and flew wherever they wanted to

Harvey is easily the bravest person in the holiday house. The first place that Harvey shows his
bravery is when he is transmutes into a vampire. The narrator of the story admits that Harvey is
brave enough to do this prank to Wendell. His cry became a whoop;his terror to joy (46). This
quote explains how Harvey cares about Wendell and didn t want to harm him at first but when
Jive pushed off the roof and into the night sky he was brave. He also has a mischievous side
underneath all the sweet, caring Harvey. Harvey s joy got the best of him and turned into
bravery. Wendell is a coward compared to his best friend Harvey. Wendell truly shows his
cowardness when Harvey transforms himself into a vampire. Wendell cries for mercy and
eventually gets his way. Don t kill me! Please, please, I beg you don t kill me (46)! This quote
truly proves that Wendell is a coward. It also proves he doesn t have the investigation side to this
scene. Harvey knows when something is wrong or something isn t right. And this shows that
Wendell does not have what it takes to be as brave as Harvey. This exemplifies that Wendell is
not the hero but the hero s sidekick who later on, helps Harvey a lot. This is the most important
part of Harvey and Wendell s friendship. They care about each other. Harvey is kind about Wendell
s weaknesses.

Dementia Memory Impairmentia
Over the centuries, the term dementia has evolved from one that described any change in intellect
or judgement in the elderly, to a collection of cognitive and behavioral symptoms correlated with
specific neuropathology. The aging process is thought to have three possible cognitive outcomes:
(1) normal age related decline, which is often described as normal and healthy aging; (2) age
associated memory impairment, which is not as severe and does not have all of the features of
dementia; (3) dementia, for which there are many types (Christensen O Brien, 2000). The
Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, fourth edition, text revision (DSM IV TR)
(American Psychiatric Association, 2000) defines dementia is an impairment in memory with
related changes in another cognitive domain (language, abstract thinking, judgement, executive

The Great Purges
To begin with, it can be assumed that Stalin was an irrational leader because he was
simultaneously also a very paranoid individual. He was constantly concerned that people in his
own territory and those abroad were going after him to destroy him. As a result, he was ruthless
in making sure his enemies would be punished. One of his most ferocious acts of terror was The
Great Purges between 1934 and 1939. During those five years, Stalin executed and imprisoned
even his own admirals and Red Army officers. The terror had no boundaries and nobody was safe
from Stalin s punishment. With the help of the Soviet secret police (NKVD), Stalin aimed to
eliminate all potential opposition thus even members of the Communist party who were deemed

During World War II, the United States experienced approximately 405,000 fatalities whereas the
Soviet Union neared 20 million (Jansson 72). Stalin was aggravated as he believed the majority of
Soviet deaths was due to betrayal from his Western Allies. Thus, paranoia in the idea that the many
deaths were intentional led him to dislike the West even more. He wanted to spread his sphere of
influence, the only true mentality, as well as protect Russia. Stalin decided that no other war should
ever be Popov 6 fought on Russian soil. The irrational fear that attacks from the enemy might occur
once again, Stalin chose to disregard the Eastern Europeans and instead sacrifice the lives of these
buffer states to prevent a direct attack to the MotherLand . This textbook example of inability to
trust others and thus hurting people for own benefit clearly demonstrates high symptoms of
paranoia. Research reiterates that individuals who experience such paranoia are more likely to
possess a history of maltreatment as children, such that Stalin experienced. As symptoms of
paranoia express difficulties with stability and trust, it can be concluded that Stalin may have been
an undiagnosed paranoid individual since qualities of healthy individuals flourish in nurturing
developmental environments (Tyrka et al

Analysis Of The Article Notes On A Politics Of Location...
In Adrienne Rich s article Notes towards a Politics of Location, Rich argues that positionality is a
way of understanding how power and privilege affect perspective. I am in agreement with Rich that
recognizing one s own politics of location is a useful starting point for feminist theory. Rich s main
arguments are that the US education system failed to provide an adequate retelling of world
histories, that white feminismis ignorant of its privileges, and that through the awareness and
inclusion of racial movements can feminist theory grow. I will also compare Rich s article to
Simone de Beauvoir s first chapter, Biological Data from her book The Second Sex, and to Judith
Butlers article Performative Acts and GenderConstitution: An Essay in Phenomenology and
Feminist Theory. Lastly, I will explain how Rich s article is valuable to myself, to the WOMN 2000
Feminist Thought course, and in broader social contexts. Rich effectively argues that white
feminism recreates the power structures feminism seeks to disassemble.
Rich maintains that white feminism begins with the faulty US education system, or for this paper s
purposes, the North American education system. Rich (1984) contends that Any United States
citizen alive today has been saturated with...the warning that any collective restructuring of society
spells the end of personal freedom....But we are not invited to consider the butcheries...of white
supremacism (p. 220). The lack of perspective for North Americans

Business Case And Moral Case Justification For Diversity...
Organisations have sought out to have a more diverse workforce, as it is claimed to increase
organisational effectiveness. A team with individuals from different social group, personalities,
values and beliefs, and etcetera, when managed well, can be an asset to the organisation. More often
than not, there will be some sort of discriminationin the workplace, especially with a very diverse
workforce. Therefore, with proper training and benefits to ensure the development of these
employees, and legislation and policy to ensure equality and reduce discrimination within the
workforce, it can drive competitive advantage and organisational profit. When looking at diversity
in the workforce, the business caseand the moral case justification are often necessary. The
following paragraphs will talk more about the business case and moral case, and the linkages
between them, as well as the theories and conceptual frameworks for the business and moral cases
justification for diversity managementin organisations.
The business case for diversity is often expressed in terms of managing diversity (Urwin et al.
2013). It is defined as managing the diversity in the workforce to reduce or eradicate the
discrimination amongst the employees in the workplace. From the business case perspective, the
main focus will usually be on equality practices, or diverse workforce that will possibly benefit the
organisation. Thus, from the business case perspective, organisations will recruit and select

Intimate Partner Violence and Substance Abuse in Women Essay
According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), twenty four people per minute are affected
be intimate partner violence. (2013) It is estimated that twelve million people in the United States
alone are affected each year. Intimate partner violence includes anything from physical or sexual
abuse to psychological abuse to stalking or threats by a current or former partner. This form of
violence can occur among couples that identify with any sexual orientation. The CDC reports that
individuals who identify as gay, lesbian, or bisexual are at an equal or higher risk for intimate
partner violence. (2013) Sexual intimacy within the relationship is not a requirement for violence to
be considered intimate partner violence. (CDC, 2013) The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

(Catalano, 2006) Researchers Smith, Homish, Leonard, and Cornelius admit that it is well
known that a risk factor for intimate partner violence is substance use. (2012) However, we have
a very limited understanding of the association between specific substance use and intimate
partner violence. These researchers set out to bring about a deeper understanding of this. For the
purpose of this study, researchers examined intimate partner violence in the presence of alcohol,
cannabis, cocaine, and opioid use, as well as poly substance use of alcohol and cocaine and
alcohol and marijuana. (Smith, et al., 2012) Further, this study looked at substance use and
intimate partner violence and differentiated between perpetration and victimization. Alcohol and
cocaine use disorders were highly associated with intimate partner perpetration whereas cannabis
and opioid use disorders were more highly associated with intimate partner victimization. (Smith,
et al., 2012) Individuals diagnosed with both an alcohol use disorder and a cannabis use disorder
were reported to have a lower likelihood of intimate partner perpetration compared to having the
diagnosis of any one substance use disorder. Having a poly substance use disorder with the
combination of alcohol and cocaine increased the likelihood of an individual to perpetrate intimate
partner violence. However, if you remove the diagnosis of alcohol use disorder and only have a
cocaine use disorder, the

Critique of Ecology of Youth Collective Socialization by...
In Ecology of Youth Collective Socialization , Nicotera, Williams, and Anthony argue that multiple
social ecology influences of peers, school, as well as neighborhoods are extensively related to
youth s well being, as well as misconducts. Within the article written, the intended audience consists
of scholars, professionals, parents, as well as current and future researchers. The three authors
submitted multiple hypotheses regarding the influences of peers, school, as well as neighborhoods
on today s youth while omitting familial influences. As presented above, the author s main
objective for writing this particular article is to present as well as analyze the collectivesocialization
of today s youth through peer, school, and neighborhood influences resulting in both positive as
well as negative results regarding their well being and misconducts. Their main arguments consist
of their presentation as well as analysis of the influences of both positive and negative outcomes.
The author s base their analysis on each of these influences through administered investigations,
current studies, questionnaires, as well as previous research from scholars to support the multiple
hypotheses. The purpose of this particular article consists of the examination of the influences of
perceived neighborhoods, distal peers, and proximal peers regarding the problematic behavior as
well as well being of today s youth. Also within this particular article their purpose consisted of how

The Trait Of Agreeableness By Robert Mccrae And Paul Costa
Assignment 3: The Trait of Neuroticism According to Robert McCrae and Paul Costa, there are five
primary traits that make up the personality. These are neuroticism, extraversion, openness,
agreeableness, and conscientiousness (Schultz Schultz, 2013). Jacobs et al (2011) defines
neuroticism as the subjective and stable tendency toward different states of negative affect (p.1).
Similarly, Jeronimus, Riese, Sanderman, and Ormel, (2014) define neuroticismas the propensity to
experience stress and negative emotions... (p.1). Undoubtedly, these mirror definitions indicate a
high likelihood of negative perceptions and higher stress levels in those who hold a high standing
on the trait of neuroticism.
Individuals with a high standing on neuroticism will be anxious and worried quite a bit of the
time. They may feel guilty often and be very tense. They will be likely to have a low self esteem
and are prone to moodiness and irrational thinking, as well as depression. Someone with a low
standing on neuroticism will be much more laid back and more likely to go with the flow. They
will maintain a more upbeat, positive attitude, even when in negative situations, which contributes
to a higher self esteem. Because of this, they will also be more likely to recover quickly from
negative life events.
While many suggest that the big five personality traits are primarily genetic, an article by
Jeronimus et al. (2014) did not support a specific cause of neuroticism. They instead proposed a

Essay on Georges Auguste Escoffier
REPORT ON: GEORGES AUGUSTE ESCOFFIER
George August Escoffier, later known simply as Auguste Escoffier, was born on October 28,
1846, in the small village of Villeneuve Loubet, near Nice, in the Provence region of France.
Among the key figures in his life was his father, who worked primarily as a blacksmith, yet also
cultivated tobacco plants. His grandmother, an enthusiastic cook, was perhaps more responsible
than anyone for instilling in young August an appreciation for cooking.
Young Escoffier attended the local school until age 12, upon which time his father thought it
necessary that his son learn a trade. His father took him to Nice, where he would work as an
apprentice in his uncle s restaurant, Le Restaurant Francais.
When ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was during this period when Escoffier began publishing his culinary works. He began with Le
Guide Culinaire in 1903, comprised of over 5,000 recipes and garnish preparations. He also wrote
Le Livre Des Menus ( The Book of Menus ), and Ma Cuisine ( My Cuisine ) in 1934.
In 1920, at the age of 73, Escoffier moved back to Monte Carlo with his wife. His intention was to
retire. However, he continued to work, collaborating and consulting on several projects, including
another casino in Upper Monte Carlo. He died in 1935, at the age of 89, only days after the death
of his wife. Escoffier s most noted career achievements are revolutionizing and modernizing the
menu, the codification of of cooking techniques and the organization of the professional kitchen
(Simon, 2001).
I discovered Escoffier when I open Bouchon Bistro Lyonnais, in 1998. I was approached by my
private chef, Thierry Aubert, with a copy of Saveur Magazine, with an article entitled The
Bouchons of Lyon. We traveled to Lyon together, collecting menus from many of the bouchons
in Old Lyon. During that trip I purchased several cook books, one of which was Le Guide
Culinaire. It was in that book that we found most of the recipes for Bouchon s first menu. I have
always been drawn to traditional French cuisine, and this book has been my Bible for years. It was
in this book that I learned about cross utilization of ingredients and sauces. I continue to

Good Food Revolution Analysis
In the book Good Food Revolution, it focuses on the main point of Will Allen s life and how he
has always been around food. I believe the book does a good job with tying in different
connections and references with food and with Will Allen since he has grown up around food
ever since he was little. When the book states The fate of a seed can be predicted by the health of
the soil where it takes the rootI believe that Will Allen is referring and connecting it back to
himself. I believe he relates this to himself because a plant s roots are surrounded by soil and
Will Allen has planted his roots around farming and food. A plant needs soil to survive and Will
Allen needed farming to survive. His whole life and job has revolved around planting. A plant
lives off of what it knows and its surroundings and Will Allen did the same. His parents planted
the seed to get the initial start in farming so he picks up where they left off. Even though he was
not into farming when he was younger he learned to grow and find a passion for farming as he
grew older because it has always been around him. No matter where he went he held onto farming
because that is all he knew. I believe this connection between Will Allen and the quote about the
plant enhances and helps tell the story of how Will Allen got involved in farming.
The connection The Good Food Revolution tries to also make is between ecology and human
development. Ecology is about dealing with relations of organisms to one another

MHPA Research Paper
The Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act of 2008, also known as MHPAEA is defined
as a federal law that prevents group health plans and health insurance issuers that provide mental
health or substance use disorder benefits from imposing less favorable benefit limitations on those
benefits than on medical or surgical benefits (Centers for Medicareand Medicaid Services, para 1).
Originally, MHPAEA applied only to group health plans and group health insurance
coverage, but
was amended by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act to also apply to individual
health insurance coverage (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, para 2). The Mental
Health Parity Act of 1996 (MHPA) defined that large group health plans could not impose annual

Analysis Of The Movie How Father Time A Deadbeat

Chance the Rapper s critically acclaimed mixtape Acid Rap morphed the rap genre for me: No
longer do rhymes have to be structured and/or neat. Beats don t have to bang. And it really is
okay for hip hop, which has long been a tough guys genre, to be eccentric. Plainly put, Acid Rap
was outside the box. Out of my comfort zone. Plus it acted as a flood gate opening wide and
unleashing a unending hoard of pent up talent from Chicago into the realms of legitimacy on the
national scene. The movement couldn t have happened at a better time, either, as the popular

  • 2. Effects of Cartoon on Children Effects of cartoons on children INtroDucTioN:Cartoons have been a staple of childhood development since the early 20th century. Two thirds of infants and toddlers watch an average of two hours of television a day, according to a recent study. While watching cartoons, a child s brain processes graphic images, educational information and violent acts. These brain stimulating factors have both positive and negative effects on children s development. Cartoons are the most frequent and easily accessible source of entertainment which we provide to our children. With the vastness of media and extension of channels, it has become easier for children to watch their favorite cartoons on a single click and at the same time it has become more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Regardless of the effects, children must have a balanced lifestyle that includes exercise and outdoor activity. Violence * Many cartoons depict scenes of violence or danger, yet whitewash the effects of that violence. For instance, a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle may beat up a bad guy in one scene, only to see that bad guy appear unharmed in the next scene. Without proper lessons to counterbalance those effects, children may grow up aggressive and eager to engage in violence unaware that the real world contains far more consequences than what a TV show depicts. Injury In 2004, Dr. Ruebert Saturnine III presented an argument on the negative effects of cartoons on children for the Animation World Network, Inc. One of Saturnine s criticisms focused on copycat incidents where children injured themselves by trying to imitate fictional characters. The first case of a cartoon related lawsuit occurred in 1928, when a small boy, Dickie Johnson, took his family s yacht out on a lake as he tried to replicate a cartoon sea captain. Dickie crashed the boat and his family filed a case against Walt Disney on charges of corrupting a minor. During the trial, Dickie testified and stated, I thought if a lowly, common mouse could drive a boat, surely I could, too. Saturnine stated that cases of cartoon related injuries increased steadily each year ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What Starts Criminal Behavior? History shows that through life violence is a cycle within itself. Criminology shows different views on how and why criminal behavior happens. That s hurts Doughboy and it seems like he is into the streets because that s the only thing that is giving him the attention that he wants and needs. Doughboy feeds on the attention that he gets from the streets of L.A. It helps him think he is wanted by people that love him. In his mind it s a lost relationship with his mother because even if he tries to do stay out of jail, try and do right by her she still wouldn t care or even notice that he is trying to build a mother son bond between them. So it gets to the point where he seeks and gets revenge on the guys who killed his brother Ricky. And he doesn t care if their guys come back in retaliation to kill him. There was a quote he said in the movie saying either they don t know, don t show, or don t care about what s going on in the hood. He has a good point because the people that do care is either scared to say anything or has never lived in the ghetto before so they can only go by what other people say that s happening in the streets. Most people get killed over what is known as the Code of The Street. In the movie it shows that their code of the street was revenge. They killed Ricky Doughboy and his friends killed them. It also shows that violence and crime happens all over something petty. In one scene in the movie they show Ferris walking into Ricky ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Franz Kafka Literary Analysis When a society determines that a group of people is detrimental or dangerous, this designation often comes from an underlying fear concerning that group of people. Social structures respond to this fear by isolating, controlling, or destroying the group of people in question. Franz Kafka juxtaposes Gregor s abnormal body with a conventional human environment to symbolize how society s perceptions of an outcast changes over time. Environmental factors which surround an individual accentuates his abnormal features, creating a negative societal image. Such abnormal features can be acquired in a number of ways. In the case of Gregor Samsa, he finds himself waking up in the body of a cockroach, while in an environment which caters to the human body he had possessed. Literally overnight, basic tasks, become a challenge to Gregor. In his abnormal body, getting out of bed became difficult... as he was so exceptionally broad. (Kafka 9) Kafka displays how Gregor would ve normally had his arms and his hands to push himself up; but instead of them he only had all those little legs continuously moving in different directions... (Kafka 9) Extricating himself from a human environment highlighted the shortcomings of his new cockroach body. This is shown again when attempting to return to his room after seeking out the Chief Clerk. Gregor s large flat body provides resistance, so he pushed himself into the doorway without regard for what might happen. One side of his body ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Things We Didn T See Coming Things We Didn t See Coming (TWDSC) is a characteristic dystopic novel written by Steven Amsterdam, which provides insight on the changing human behaviour during continual periods of environmental volatility. Readers learn about their proposed future of a food less world, heartless periods of ceaseless rains, breakouts of disease and savagery, through the narrator s lens. While Amsterdam presents a dystopian future of continuous environmental deterioration, corruption and disease, there are glimmers of hope brought about by the narrator s attempts to maintain morality and his relationships with other characters. • 9. Critical Appreciation Of John Keats British Romantic Literature Assignment (Semester IV) Nayan Srivastava (1116) Keats s Escape from Reality John Keats, a second generation Romantic poet, is considered the perfect Romantic poet. His works have been read, appreciated and studied across the world, though this was not done during his lifetime. Only in the twentieth century did Keats get due credit and respect for the complexity of his odes, his pursuit of truth and beauty and dealing with human difficulty and suffering. The Romantic poets, as a whole, strived for perfection. Romanticism grew as an opposition to the Enlightenment Age or the Age of Reason and as a result the poets focused on emotion, motives and imagination. Even though a season too is transient in nature, he is inspired in its fleeting beauty and does not yearn permanence as in Ode on a Grecian Urn . Keats preoccupation with mortality and death as in Ode to A Nightingale , too simmers down in this work. The wafting wind is described as living or dying, and the use of these words emphasize an acceptance on his behalf about the natural inevitability of this process. Winter is viewed as a season of absolute decay when everything freezes, and hence To Autumn can be seen as a period prior to the death when one begins to accept one s fate and does not fear death anymore. • 10. Persuasive Essay On Acadia National Park Michael Forme once said, A national park is not a playground. It s a sanctuary for nature and for humans who will accept nature on nature s own terms. In a technology focused world, national parks allow us to escape everyday life and focus on nature and all it has to teach us. In July of 2017 my family went on our fifth trip to Acadia National Park. Acadia is located on Mount Desert Island in Maine, which is actually a peninsula that has only two ways to enter: by car on a singular, two lane road or by boat. This remote location allows for peace and seclusion that is difficult to find throughout our country. On the fourth day of our ten day trip, I would experience something that would drive home a statement I had known for years: unfortunately, for all the beauty and peace hikingcan expose you to, your safety is not guaranteed. That day, my family and I planned to hike the Acadia Mountain and St. Sauveur Mountain Trail Loop, which totals in at about 3.8 miles and is rated strenuous by the most Acadia hiking guides, with the addition of the Flying Mountain trail, which is about 1.5 miles. This meant the hike would be just over five miles, which would not usually be challenging for experienced hikers, but much of this hike is uphill, across uneven, rocky surfaces. Before hiking, my mother and I had sat down to research the trail. Again and again, guide book after guide book, the steepness and rockiness of this trail was noted, but we weren t worried. (Total for Question 1 = 50 marks) There are several issues that arise when it comes to the development in medical ethics whilst also maintaining religious principles and ethical values. The development of medical knowledge has allowed for humans to practice different ways in helping society. But these new discoveries have found to clash with religious principles and ethical values. This can be related to the topic of abortion as it goes against monotheistic religious teachings. In the 21st Century it is allowed for a mother to abort a healthy ... To conclude, I believe that abortion should only be considered concerning the best interest of the foetus because that is what is seen to be ethically right (by ending the possibility of suffering and low quality of life that the foetus may have to endure if it was to be born). Situation Ethics, devised by Joseph Fletcher could be a religious stance as to why the allowance of abortion for disabled foetuses may be in accordance to religious principles also. • 12. The Chosen Ones By Pablo Neruda Analysis Resuscitation Pablo Neruda s poem The Chosen Ones is a perfect incorporation of torment and influence, acting to sadden as well as impact the reader to influence further action against intolerance. Neruda uses allusion when referencing the years of events of significant suffering that are important in Cuban and world history, recalling his own first hand experiences himself, and the significance of understanding these dates and events. Neruda uses a tone that is volatile, characterized by an increase in imagery, especially of death and violence, as the piece goes on. Neruda uses a couplet at the end to shift the poem from lengthy description of violence and death, to a sardonic reference of those who were killed, operating as a call to action. This poem uses allusion, tone, and personification to exemplify violence as a result of prejudice and their legacy forgotten. Neruda s use of historical allusion is significant as several dates mentioned are specificexamples of genocide, especially as a result of hatred towards complex institutions of race, nationality, and religion. In this piece Neruda references several dates: 1925, 1926, 1933, 1940, 1918, 1905, and thousands of nineteen hundreds (Neruda,1). Each date representative of a significantly negative event in world history; However several dates also coincide with important years in Cuban history. For example, in the year 1925, Gerardo Machado was elected Cuba s president, he would resist the rise of a healthy labor movement, which he would enforce using deportation and police brutality. Cuba s economic downfall would lead to uprisings in the future, all ultimately having Cuban legislature and law enforcement being taken advantage of, while at the same time several mass killings world arise before crimes against humanity would be identified and prosecuted at the International Military Tribunal in Nuremberg. Neruda s first hand experiences with oppression and fascism growing up in Cuba allowed many to learn from the Chilean because he offered a way of identifying with the masses and engaging the problems of society (Pettingell, 3). Neruda s use of allusion allows the hatred from these mass killings to be tied in with the selfishness and extortion of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Kenneth Branagh s version is approximately three minutes and ten seconds, while Franco Zeffirelli is about three minutes and thirty five seconds. Branagh chose himself to be the star of his own play, while Zeffirelli chose a young Mel Gibson. This soliloquy occurs in Act 3 scene 1. Both of the directors takes on this scene could not have been more different. In the two versions, the physical appearance of Hamlet is practically opposite. In this version we are left to wonder if Hamlet is talking to himself or to Polonius and Claudius. This also goes along with the recurring theme of the play, appearance vs reality. In Zeffirelli version, he has Hamlet alone in a dark tomb which symbolizes death and sorrow. This Hamlet is very much contemplating committing suicide. It also emphasizes his great depression. Zeffirelli has Hamlet in a tomb with really low lighting and is taken in multiple shots(edited a lot). This enables the scene to focus on the pain in Hamlets voice and ... Change was something I had never truly experienced before high school. One night at the local bowling alley there was a dance for the high school students. I went with some my friends and we were just chilling at a table. It was typical high schooldance, girls on one side and guys on the other side. Everyone was taking their pictures and soon I was asked to take picture a with my older friend, Alex. We took the picture of each of us holding dollar bills in our hands. One of my friends later told me I looked fat in the picture. I looked at repeatedly in denialbecause I couldn t believe what he had said. I kept making up excuses of why I admittedly, looked a bit over weigh. Later, that week a couple of my friends could tell I was feeling down. I simply played it off as stress caused from school which what any sissy would do. I came to the realization that I was overweight. I started researching ways to lose weightand found a bunch of ways to lose weight. The problem was I didn t know how to lose weight to I just decided to eat three times a day with no snacks. It had been about 3 weeks since I started trying to lose weight and I was at the gym playing basketball. My friend, Eric said You look skinnier, have you lost weight? The second phase of the project included tasks like outlining new policies procedure, reviewing information flow, developing prototype of modules and defining external system interface. Therefore the expected deliverables of this phase includes definite business process, report requirement, the support of finance and staff work, customization requirement, new policies procedures, and system interface process booking. The projects basic structures were identified in this stage and Integrated Program Management (IPM) which would finally cover the whole business was also implemented for research and development (Boltena Gomez, 2012). Jobs Where Stress Never Ends Jobs Where Stress Never Ends The world population is rising at an extreme rate, making it harder for people to find a job for a living so that almost every job in this highly competitive world is increasingly stressful. Can anyone find a job that has no stress? Perhaps, the answer for this question is always no because stress actually comes from many sources whether people like it or not. For example, stress comes from bosses, colleagues, wages, and job pressures. Stress mostly depends on the type of job. There are many types of jobs that are stressful, but people often think about the top three stressful jobs such as police officers, airline pilots, and firefighters. One of the most stressful jobs is to be a police officer. Three causes that make police officers stressed are working long hours and unusual shifts, strictly conforming to non disclosure policy, and dealing with many kinds of perpetrators. First, working long hours and unusual shifts makes them stressed because they cannot spend enough time with their family and take care of their children. They start working in the early mornings but get off duty late at nights. Working during weekends does not become an unusual task for their job, and sometimes they unexpectedly have to report to duty due to serious cases. They unintentionally lose a lot of good chances to celebrate holidays or birthday parties together with their family. Their jobs bring in a lot of stress for them. Who s Afraid Of Virginia Woolf Essay Who s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? and The Birth of the MPAA Ratings System The 1960s were a volatile time and an important season of change in American history. The revolutions in social mores that the country experienced extended to the cinema. Previously, films sought the endorsement of production associations and religious organizations. That trend began to be challenged by bold directors and their films that earned success without the approval of these establishments. With its brash dialogue and suggestive situations, Mike Nichols screen adaptation of Who s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? caused controversy by continuing the radical movements of films in the 50 s and 60 s, leading to content changes as well the advisory of who should see it. The 1920s were marked by a desire to return to the way of life before the left leaning reforms of the Progressive Era and WWI. However, the nation was not unified during the decade. Many rifts began to form in American society and economy. The 1920s were marked by discord among many Americans in the areas of immigration, religion, and with the issue of socialism, marked especially by the Red Scare. When it came to the topic of immigration, nativists largely won during the 1920s. In response to nativist demands, the government introduced literacy tests in 1917. This measure to restrict immigration helped pave the way for even more strict regulations in the 1920s. Beginning in 1920, the government began to introduce quotas to further regulate immigration. While President Wilson was opposed to such regulations, newly elected President Harding was in favor of them. Under Harding, quotas became increasingly strict over the first half of the decade, culminating with the Immigration Act of 1924. The Act restricted anyone who was ineligible for becoming a citizen of the United States from even immigrating into the county. People of Asian descent, for instance, were previously restricted from becoming US citizens and were therefore unable to even immigrate into the country under the Act. Sidewinder Snakes Dr. Joseph Mendelson from the Georgia Institute of Technology and Atlanta Zoo presented his research on the mechanism used by sidewinder snakes for locomotion on sand with the implementation of a robot snake as a model system. The research study involved the collaboration of the physics, engineering and biology departments to further understand the nature of snake movements. Sidewinders are snakes that are able to move on sand at different inclinations because they do not slither but rather employ a different mechanism of movement. Dr. Mendelson was able to determine that the robot snake which mimics a snake that slithers is unable to move on sand with an inclination greater than zero degrees. From the observations of snakes in nature, the results showed that their locomotion is truly optimized based on their repeated operations being maintained in an effective zone. The robot snake was manipulated with different durations and amounts of lifts and contacts that would vary, but be maintained in the ineffective zone due to the failed movement on sand. Another research study involved the examination of the mechanisms employed by sidewinders for turning in a different direction of movement. The results suggested that sidewinders change directions horizontally or vertically by changing the angle of their head. An analysis of the robot snake demonstrated an unobservable locomotion that it is possible to move in both a horizontal and vertical wave movement on the sand in order to change directions via a differential or reversal turning locomotion. Through the investigation of these research studies, Dr. Mendelson and his co researchers were able to discover that in effect sidewinders suffer a cost of being able to implement a different locomotion on inclinations of sand. Sidewinders are not able to avoid obstacles as easily as snakes that slither which can just turn their heads in a slight angle away from the obstacle in order to avoid it. The results showed that the reason for this cost is due to the mechanism that sidewinders use for which the head does not reach the obstacle first to avoid the obstacle beforehand instead of being tangled by it with their body. An opposing view is that the fox is not a serious threat to agriculture, and should not be considered as a vermin. According to the League Against Cruel Sports the foxes actually help farmers by eating small animals, such as rabbits, rats and voles, which are considered to be pests on arable land. In addition, foxes are territorial animals, which means that once a fox is killed another soon moves into its place from a surrounding area. Left to control their population naturally the number of foxes would be controlled by scarcity of food, whereas when used fox hunting for controlling the populations, it only serves to lessen the amount of the animals temporarily, for more foxes to take advantage of the increase in food thus breeding again. Furthermore, foxes do not cause significant loss or damage in livestock. For example the League Against Cruel Sports, an organization strongly against fox hunting, mentions a York University study that states that only a minimal amount of 0.4% of lambs are killed by foxes, and of other livestock the percentage is extremely low as well. According to the study foxes are not a significant danger to livestock. Supporters of fox hunting present the opinion that foxes do not suffer from stress or pain as a result of the hunt. According to David Leverenz, in an important essay called The Woman in Hamlet. Hamlet s disgust at the feminine passivity in himself is translated into violent revulsion against women, and into his brutal behaviour towards Ophelia. Ophelia s suicide, Leverenz argues, then becomes a microcosm of the male world s banishment of the female, because woman represents everything denied by reasonable men. To liberate Ophelia from the text, or to make her its tragic center, is to re appropriate her for our own ends; to dissolve her into a female symbolism of absence is to endorse our own marginality; to make her Hamlet s anima is to reduce her to a metaphor of male experience. I would like to propose instead that Ophelia does have a story of her own that feminist criticism can tell; it is neither her life story, nor her love story, nor Lacan s story, but rather the history of her representation. This essay tries to bring together some of the categories of French feminist thought about the feminine with the empirical energies of American historical and critical research; to yoke French theory and Yankee knowhow. A boy named Doodle dreams about flying because he is not very mobile. The author uses different types of birds to compare Doodle too. James Hurst used flying as a metaphor for Doodle throughout the whole story. Since Doodle couldn t mobilize like the other boys, he dreamed about flying. Brother said, Although Doodle learned to crawl, he showed no signs of walking, but he wasn t idle(3). Doodle started to walk when he was 5 years old, but before that, his older brother had to pull him around in a gocart his father had made. His brother taught him how to walk out of embarrassment. They were talking about lies and dreams when brother mentioned, People in his stories all had wings and flew wherever they wanted to go(6). Doodle had a huge imagination when it came to flying. Before Doodle could walk he wasn t making his brother proud and once he did walk, he knew his brother was proud of him. There were moments in the story where Doodle could have been seen as a normal child but instead it was as if he was a bird. This quote explains how Harvey cares about Wendell and didn t want to harm him at first but when Jive pushed off the roof and into the night sky he was brave. He also has a mischievous side underneath all the sweet, caring Harvey. Harvey s joy got the best of him and turned into bravery. Wendell is a coward compared to his best friend Harvey. Wendell truly shows his cowardness when Harvey transforms himself into a vampire. Wendell cries for mercy and eventually gets his way. Don t kill me! Please, please, I beg you don t kill me (46)! This quote truly proves that Wendell is a coward. It also proves he doesn t have the investigation side to this scene. Harvey knows when something is wrong or something isn t right. And this shows that Wendell does not have what it takes to be as brave as Harvey. This exemplifies that Wendell is not the hero but the hero s sidekick who later on, helps Harvey a lot. This is the most important part of Harvey and Wendell s friendship. They care about each other. Harvey is kind about Wendell s weaknesses. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Dementia Memory Impairmentia Over the centuries, the term dementia has evolved from one that described any change in intellect or judgement in the elderly, to a collection of cognitive and behavioral symptoms correlated with specific neuropathology. The aging process is thought to have three possible cognitive outcomes: (1) normal age related decline, which is often described as normal and healthy aging; (2) age associated memory impairment, which is not as severe and does not have all of the features of dementia; (3) dementia, for which there are many types (Christensen O Brien, 2000). The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, fourth edition, text revision (DSM IV TR) (American Psychiatric Association, 2000) defines dementia is an impairment in memory with related changes in another cognitive domain (language, abstract thinking, judgement, executive function) that cause significant social and occupational impairments. He was constantly concerned that people in his own territory and those abroad were going after him to destroy him. As a result, he was ruthless in making sure his enemies would be punished. One of his most ferocious acts of terror was The Great Purges between 1934 and 1939. During those five years, Stalin executed and imprisoned even his own admirals and Red Army officers. The irrational fear that attacks from the enemy might occur once again, Stalin chose to disregard the Eastern Europeans and instead sacrifice the lives of these buffer states to prevent a direct attack to the MotherLand . This textbook example of inability to trust others and thus hurting people for own benefit clearly demonstrates high symptoms of paranoia. Research reiterates that individuals who experience such paranoia are more likely to possess a history of maltreatment as children, such that Stalin experienced. I am in agreement with Rich that recognizing one s own politics of location is a useful starting point for feminist theory. Rich s main arguments are that the US education system failed to provide an adequate retelling of world histories, that white feminismis ignorant of its privileges, and that through the awareness and inclusion of racial movements can feminist theory grow. I will also compare Rich s article to Simone de Beauvoir s first chapter, Biological Data from her book The Second Sex, and to Judith Butlers article Performative Acts and GenderConstitution: An Essay in Phenomenology and Feminist Theory. Lastly, I will explain how Rich s article is valuable to myself, to the WOMN 2000 Feminist Thought course, and in broader social contexts. (2012) However, we have a very limited understanding of the association between specific substance use and intimate partner violence. These researchers set out to bring about a deeper understanding of this. For the purpose of this study, researchers examined intimate partner violence in the presence of alcohol, cannabis, cocaine, and opioid use, as well as poly substance use of alcohol and cocaine and alcohol and marijuana. (Smith, et al., 2012) Further, this study looked at substance use and intimate partner violence and differentiated between perpetration and victimization. Alcohol and cocaine use disorders were highly associated with intimate partner perpetration whereas cannabis and opioid use disorders were more highly associated with intimate partner victimization. (Smith, et al., 2012) Individuals diagnosed with both an alcohol use disorder and a cannabis use disorder were reported to have a lower likelihood of intimate partner perpetration compared to having the diagnosis of any one substance use disorder. Having a poly substance use disorder with the combination of alcohol and cocaine increased the likelihood of an individual to perpetrate intimate partner violence. • 47. The Trait Of Agreeableness By Robert Mccrae And Paul Costa Assignment 3: The Trait of Neuroticism According to Robert McCrae and Paul Costa, there are five primary traits that make up the personality. These are neuroticism, extraversion, openness, agreeableness, and conscientiousness (Schultz Schultz, 2013). Jacobs et al (2011) defines neuroticism as the subjective and stable tendency toward different states of negative affect (p.1). Similarly, Jeronimus, Riese, Sanderman, and Ormel, (2014) define neuroticismas the propensity to experience stress and negative emotions... (p.1). Undoubtedly, these mirror definitions indicate a high likelihood of negative perceptions and higher stress levels in those who hold a high standing on the trait of neuroticism. Individuals with a high standing on neuroticism will be anxious and worried quite a bit of the time. They may feel guilty often and be very tense. They will be likely to have a low self esteem and are prone to moodiness and irrational thinking, as well as depression. Someone with a low standing on neuroticism will be much more laid back and more likely to go with the flow. They will maintain a more upbeat, positive attitude, even when in negative situations, which contributes to a higher self esteem. Because of this, they will also be more likely to recover quickly from negative life events. While many suggest that the big five personality traits are primarily genetic, an article by Jeronimus et al. (2014) did not support a specific cause of neuroticism. They instead proposed a ... Among the key figures in his life was his father, who worked primarily as a blacksmith, yet also cultivated tobacco plants. His grandmother, an enthusiastic cook, was perhaps more responsible than anyone for instilling in young August an appreciation for cooking. His intention was to retire. However, he continued to work, collaborating and consulting on several projects, including another casino in Upper Monte Carlo. He died in 1935, at the age of 89, only days after the death of his wife. Escoffier s most noted career achievements are revolutionizing and modernizing the menu, the codification of of cooking techniques and the organization of the professional kitchen (Simon, 2001). • 49. Good Food Revolution Analysis In the book Good Food Revolution, it focuses on the main point of Will Allen s life and how he has always been around food. I believe the book does a good job with tying in different connections and references with food and with Will Allen since he has grown up around food ever since he was little. When the book states The fate of a seed can be predicted by the health of the soil where it takes the rootI believe that Will Allen is referring and connecting it back to himself. I believe he relates this to himself because a plant s roots are surrounded by soil and Will Allen has planted his roots around farming and food. A plant needs soil to survive and Will Allen needed farming to survive. His whole life and job has revolved around planting. A plant lives off of what it knows and its surroundings and Will Allen did the same. His parents planted the seed to get the initial start in farming so he picks up where they left off. Even though he was not into farming when he was younger he learned to grow and find a passion for farming as he grew older because it has always been around him. No matter where he went he held onto farming because that is all he knew. I believe this connection between Will Allen and the quote about the plant enhances and helps tell the story of how Will Allen got involved in farming. The connection The Good Food Revolution tries to also make is between ecology and human development. Ecology is about dealing with relations of organisms to one another ...
