The colonists in Jamestown built structures out of wood and brick, with masons skilled at brick construction. Wood was also used to build furniture, ships important for fishing and travel between Virginia and England, while tobacco was a key crop grown as a money crop to pay taxes and import goods. Glass blowing was also an early industry that produced bottles, jars, and drinking glasses.
