The document discusses how technology procurement is changing due to trends in IT like technologies having shorter lifecycles, microservices architecture, and agile development. Some implications are that there is no long term planning, goals are determined by budgets, ownership of software and hardware is difficult, and finding alternatives is challenging due to dependencies on open source projects. Technology procurement now involves many smaller deals instead of large long-term contracts. The document provides examples of how technologies like Hadoop have been replaced and suggests procurement must adapt to this new dynamic IT environment through changes like bucket-based budgeting and prioritizing flexibility over large discounts on future purchases.

If COVID-19 has demonstrated anything it is that organizations can no longer rely on traditional long-term strategic direction-setting, in order to succeed and grow. Today, organizations need to be able to quickly identify changes and respond with speed.
Adaptive enterprises have the technical and organizational agility to do this. In this session, we will present the organizational structure, technologies and concepts that make up an adaptive organization and discuss topics such as: Concierge hyper-personalization services; Personalized (PBC) Business Capabilities; adaptive organizational structure; Centers of Excellence; center office; hyper-automation and data centric organizations.

EAC2013 presentation: A Cookbook for Smart EA PracticesRik Farenhorst
Despite the maturation of the discipline, in many organizations Enterprise Architecture is not applied very effectively, mostly because using structured methods and frameworks is preferred over communicating business value and smart planning of IT investments. The various EA frameworks (e.g., TOGAF) that have been proposed over the past years definitely have their merit, but they also seem to seduce architects to focus on blueprints, elaborate process definitions and ivory towers. Architects simply need to work smarter to be of added value. Based on experience in numerous EA projects and EA trainings delivered in the Netherlands, in this presentation a cookbook for smart EA practices is proposed. The cookbook, which is inspired by success stories from the trenches, adopts and adapts elements from contemporary EA frameworks and other methods, (e.g., stakeholder management, architecture visualizations, business model canvas), and as such provides a step-by-step guide for building or professionalizing an EA function.

From project to product mindset and onwards to product platform architecturesJorn Bettin
Is it possible to stay innovative and economically manage many hundreds or even thousands of products or product variants?
Organisations interested in benefiting from a product line and product platform approach must adopt values and organisational principles that encourage the development of deep domain expertise. This includes a deep understanding of the forces that continuously change the environment of the product line. These forces can then be harnessed as part of the architectural foundation for the product line.
The pervasive digitisation of services and the desire to create and operate platforms that can support large digital service ecosystems that include many organisations, have put the spotlight on design principles for product lines, product platforms, and related organisational structures.

Project-based thinking and process is often the largest inhibitor of achieving agility. It explains why the notion of ‘Project to Product' has gained such popularity, to the point of even becoming a buzzword in recent years.
Despite the enthusiasm about becoming a product-driven organisation, many companies still hang onto their old project-based ways due to some “big rock” constraints, including funding and separation of IT and business.
So, what can you do to make a successful shift?
Join Anne Steiner, CEO at Cprime, to explore the challenges you may face in your product agility journey, and how to overcome them. We’ll explore:
=Common constraints you may encounter when shifting from project to product and how to address them
-How to shift to product-based funding models
-The role of the product manager
-Benefits you’ll experience with true product agility

From the lean enterprise to the lean startup, organizations are increasingly turning to lean production practices to create and preserve value with less work. SharePoint’s broad deployment, mature functional capabilities and robust extensibility make it a natural candidate for lean development scenarios, yet realizing the promise of the platform is not without risk.

- Economic,
- Cultural, and
- Engineering dimensions.
This session is appropriate for business leaders exploring lean implementation strategies and experienced SharePoint technologists looking to enhance their development processes with lean practices.

COVID-19 has emphasized the fact that business agility and hence technology agility are the most if not the only factors for business success. However, technology agility in most IT departments is not the “strongest muscle”. Technology adoption of Cloud, Devops, Integration, Low-Code and Zero Trust are affecting all IT departments and even the entire organization. New
processes and relationships between the various branches of the IT department should emerge, forsaking old habits and technologies. New technologies and roles\responsibilities are taking their place.
Technical Debt: A Management Problem That Requires a Management SolutionScott W. Ambler
The primary cause of technical debt in your organization is very likely your managers – not your programmers nor your architects. The management desire to be “on time and on budget” often motivates deployment of poor-quality assets and rarely leaves room for investment in long-term quality. Although technical professionals may readily realize this problem managers often do not, or if they do they don’t view technical debt as a priority. It is time for a change.
This presentation explores the root causes of technical debt within organizations, many of which trace back to the management mindset and the strategies that result from it. Just like the technical challenges of addressing technical debt must be addressed by technical solutions, the management challenges of technical debt must be addressed by management solutions. It works through how to make leadership aware of technical debt and its implications, how to evolve your management practices to avoid and address technical debt, and enterprise-level strategies to embed technical debt thinking and behaviors into your culture. Results from industry research are shared throughout.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. He is known for his dynamic presentations in CI/CD and application security integrated in software delivery lifecycle.

Gopinath Rebala is the CTO of OpsMx, where he has overall responsibility for the machine learning and data processing architectures for Secure Software Delivery. Gopi also has a strong connection with our customers, leading design and architecture for strategic implementations. Gopi is a frequent speaker and well-known leader in continuous delivery and integrating security into software delivery.

Traditional IT procurement principles
• Look at the whole picture & plan
• Budget is planned according to goals
• Long term relationship & deals
• Big deals that include many items
• Discount for large & long-term quantity/deal
• Ownership of SW / HW
• Look for alternatives is top priority

But now:
• There is no big picture
• Goals is reached according to budget

• When life-time is shorter – setup time has higher impact
• What about choosing & setting up alternative that is not the
“natural selection”? Much less appealing!!
• It is safer to be on the main-stream than before
• Finding alternative is harder

• Goals is reached according to budget
(bucket-based budgeting)
• Technology & projects last less
• Many small deals (microservices)
• No ownership of SW & HW
• Harder to find alternatives (opensource
dependencies, shorter project life – no
time for specific integration)

Other issues:
• Discount for future purchase is
big risk (technology might not
be needed anymore!!)
• Its hard to predict cloud budget
• From CPU to container-based
procurement
• Its more important than before
to be safe on the “mainstream”
– harder to be “creative” in
procurement
