• Isaac Newton was a british mathematician,
astronomer, theologian and physicist.
• He was born on Christmas day,25 december
1642.
• He was born in Woolsthorpe , Lincolnshire,
england.
• When he was 18 years old, enrolled himself as a
sizar at trinity college, Cambridge in 1661.
• It was during his years at the Cambridge that
Newton developed an interest in physics,
mathematics, optics and astronomy.
• In 1665 the great plague(which was a terrible
disease) spread in England
• So the Cambridge university had to close down.
 Newton s law of motion
 Universal gravitation
 Calculus
 Newtonian mechanics
Newtons first law of motion:
“objects in motion tend to stay in motion
and object at rest tend to stay at rest
Unless acted upon by an unbalanced
force”
_sometimes it is called LAW OF INERTIA
 An objests ability to resist changes in motion
If an object is at stationary, it will remain at
stationary.
If an object is in motion, it will remain in motion
Net force is equal to mass times acceleration
“for every action, there’s an equal BUT
opposite reaction”
Discovery of gravity
 One day Newton was resting beneath a
tree
 Suddenly an apple fell on his head
 he woke up and got annoyed
 Then he thought(why do apples fall down
instead of rising to the clouds)
 He then realized that there have to be a
force that pulls things toward earth
 He then formed a theory that explains gravity
WHAT IS GRAVITY??
 Gravity is an invisible force which pulls objects
toward earth and keeps the planet moving
around the sun
Newton's law of universal gravitation states
that a particle attracts every other particle in the
universe using a force that is directly
proportional to the product of their masses
and inversely proportional to the square of the
distance between their centers
 gravity=9.81
the size of Earth and the distance we are on its
surface from its center. "9.81 meters per second
squared”
"9.81 meters per second squared" means that
objects on Earth will accelerate (or go faster) 9.81
meters every second
 In 1665Isaac Newton was still studying at
Cambridge university in England.
 He was very interested in learning all about light
and colors.
 One bright sunny day, Newton darkened his room
and made a hole in his window shutter, allowing
just one beam of sunlight to enter the room.
 He took a glass prism and placed it in the
sunbeam.
 The result was a spectacular multicolored band of
light just like a rainbow.
 The multicolored band of light is called a COLOR
SPECTRUM
 Newton believed that all the colors he saw were in
the sunlight shining into his room
 He thought he then should be able to combine the
colors of the spectrum and make the light white
again
 To test this, he placed another prism-upside down
in front of the first prism
 He was RIGHT!!! The band of colors combined
again into white sunlight.
 Newton was able to prove that white is made up of
all the colors we can see
 The Newtonian telescope is a type of reflecting
telescope made by using a concave primary mirror
and a flat diagonal secondary mirror.
 His first one was made in 1668 and is the earliest
known functional telescope
 The Newtonian telescope’s simple design makes it
very popular with amateur telescope makers.
 AMATEUR TELESCOPE MAKING is the activity
of building a telescope as a hobby
 FRS(Fellowship of the royal society)in 1672
 Knight bachelor in 1705
 Arithmetica universalis
 The chronology of ancient kingdom amended
 Method of fluxions
 Opticks
 Philosophiae naturalis principia mathematica
 The queries
•_Isaac Newton was born in 1642, the same year
that Galileo Galilei died.
•_The rivalry between Newton and Robert Hooke is
well known and according to some sources, the
hatred continued even after Hooke’s death and
Newton had all portraits of Hooke destroyed.
•_One of Newton’s teeth was sold in 1816 at an
auction for approximately $3,600
Newton was eccentric by nature and once jammed
a darning needle around the side of his eye. He
was experimenting with properties of light and
used himself as a guinea pig in order to find out
whether the eyes were responsible for collecting
light or creating it.
• He used to suffer from depresion
• Newton died on march 31 1727 at the age of 84 in
kensington
