Managing the Complexities of Conversion to S1000Ddclsocialmedia
If you've ever been faced with the challenges related to converting your data to XML, this webinar is for you! In addition to the basic challenges of converting data to XML, the conversion to S1000D has the complexity of Data Module Requirements List (DMRL), Applicability and other content driven tagging structures. Having a solid plan in place and identifying issues prior to conversion is imperative to the overall success of the project.
This session will specifically address the analysis phase including considerations such as where the inconsistencies lie, how the content is currently being reused or not, how translation services are applied as a measure of quality, what channels does the content need to support, what issues each channel may have in using the content, does task-based authoring make sense and more in order to achieve the maximum ROI.
Minimalism Revisited — Let’s Stop Developing Content that No One Wantsdclsocialmedia

ASME's Digital Path Initiative: Don't Make a Molehill Out of a Mountain!dclsocialmedia
Every decision should be examined from the perspective of ROI. ASME’s path has not been an easy one; many of challenges occurred as a result of early decisions that were made based on a limited perspective of the full project and business requirements. Pitfalls of a large undertaking have dramatic implications for the people, processes, technologies and finances of an organization.
This session will highlight particular issues, including:
- How early decisions influence the course of a project
- How to respond to the project as it emerges
- How to borrow from agile principles
- What to do if you inherit a project midstream
Other topics such as choosing the right partners, understanding scope, identifying anomalies and differences in content, gauging complexities, and when and how to take corrective action while still making progress, will also be covered.

Creating a Hybrid Approach to Legacy Conversiondclsocialmedia
Organizations rarely look at combining the best of breed when planning a legacy conversion project. Most often, they pull employees off their regular tasks to work on the conversion. There is nothing more costly than this siloed approach due to its manual & labor-intensive processes that create huge opportunities for error involving even more resources for clean-up on the backend. But there does not need to be a one-size-fits-all approach nor does everything need to be done in-house in order to meet budget. Combining the appropriate plan, expertise & processes will ensure the highest quality results delivered on schedule & budget. This session will address every aspect of the conversion process & identify ways to maximize your ROI through the benefits of teamwork & automation. We will build a roadmap for the attendees identifying everything from what the right team should look like, how to set priorities & assign tasks, preparing content for conversion, the process that fits the content, managing an automated production process as well as how to avoid the bottlenecks before they occur.
If everyone write their documents with the intent that they be standardized and converted, conversion to S1000D would be easy. But the reality is that most legacy data lacks the details needed for a full conversion or contains anomalies and irrelevant text. This leads us to the question one must ask: should I convert, rewrite, or manually convert the legacy data? In this presentation, we will attempt to answer this question by reviewing:
o A very quick introduction to S1000D conversions
o What the technical headaches are
o Whether to convert or rewrite
o Planning for a good conversion experience
o What the timeline looks like
o Some tools to help

Translation quality evaluation is challenging and costly for many companies, often representing the largest share of spend in the localization budget and having significant impact on time to market. Our own metrics help us understand and refine our own processes, but what could we learn from sharing our quality data – securely and anonymously of course? Could our collective metrics be leveraged as valuable business intelligence? In June of this year TAUS launched the Quality Dashboard, an industry-shared platform that helps providers and buyers of translation as well as translators to measure and benchmark quality, productivity and efficiency. Through an open API users and translation technology providers can connect with the Dynamic Quality Framework (DQF) tools and track performance on the Quality Dashboard. This panel will discuss the value and power of these shared metrics and the impact of the Quality Dashboard.
The panelists are: Steve Richardson (LDS Church), Samuel Läubli (Autodesk), Hyunjoo Han (Autodesk)
The goal of this session is to share best practices and experiences across the panelists in terms of metrics-driven quality management. Discuss the industry’s need for tools and technology to aggregate quality data and provide a standardized approach to quality measurement.
A data driven approach to translation outcomesSmartling
Measuring translation quality is a persistent challenge for the localization industry. As the amount of multilingual content created every year continues to grow, translation quality becomes critical for achieving desired business goals and requires a predictive assessment at the center of the translation process.
These slides of our latest webinar "A data driven approach to translation outcomes" challenges the presumption that translation quality cannot be quantitatively measured and examines the data that is needed to improve modern translation management strategies. The unparalleled transparency made possible by data enables global brands to make shrewd evaluations of translators.
Smartling’s newly-launched Quality Confidence Score™ (QCS) is a prediction of expected accuracy based on the analysis of more than 75 behavior-based success factors. As a result, the QCS™ can identify and predict the likelihood of careless translations, and it can inspire strategic workflow adjustments based on metrics gathered and analyzed throughout the translation process, allowing customers to gain reliable and actionable insights to optimize their business in real time.

Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. An interactive Demo will give you some insides, what approaches I got already working for real.

Q & A
7. The “Big Picture”
Product Life Cycle - from conceptualization to marketplace
• Where do translations fit?
10. • Translations decentralized
• No enterprise-wide Translation Memory (TM) or workflow
process
• Inconsistent pricing
The Headache
Enterprise – Common Problems
11. Typical Translation Process - Problems
The ‘black hole’
1.Submit a document to the Language Service Provider
(LSP)
2.Receive few details
a. Word count
b. TM matches
c. Price
12. Typical Translation Process - Problems
• No real clarity
• Very little accountability
• Difficult to switch LSPs
• Process improvement?
16. No budgetary accountability
Few LSPs, often just one
Tied to a translator’s technology
Translator controlling TM
No translator validation or ratings
Major Management RISKS
17. To avoid the common RISKS:
•Centralize your TM – keep in-house
•Vendor-independence - always choose your best LSP
•View translations as an enterprise-wide process
•Metrics! Measure everything
•Stop “fire-fighting” translation issues
and look at the big picture!
Typical Translation Process – How to Fix
18. Can Current Metrics Solve these Problems?
• Most common metrics:
• Which LSP has the assignment
• Delivery timing
• How long did post-editing take?
19. Can Current Metrics Solve these Problems?
Mostly manual entries
• Emails add extra time
• Spreadsheets & folders
• TM in unsecure environment
• Are you giving the store away?
20. Can Current Metrics Solve these Problems?
What metrics are the translators currently offering?
• TM matches
• 100% matches
• 90-99% matches
• 75-89% matches
• Word content reuse
• Price
• Other (as needed)
21. Can Current Metrics Solve these Problems?
What metrics are the staff currently monitoring?
•Translation quality metrics absent
•In-country reviewer:
– final edits
– was LSP kept in loop?
22. 1. Aggregate volume
2. Turnaround time
3. TM analysis
4. LSP ratings
5. Cost-tracking
Most Valuable Metrics
23. Most Valuable Metrics
1. Aggregate volume:
• Quantifies word count
• Number of projects
• Number of LSPs
24. Most Valuable Metrics
1. Aggregate volume:
• Word count gives you negotiating power
• Number of projects shows the big picture:
• Which business units submit the most projects
• Which source/target languages are most common
25. Most Valuable Metrics
1. Aggregate volume (continued):
• Number of LSPs
• Where are the hidden translators?
• How many translate the same languages?
• Which business units do the same
same languages?
27. Most Valuable Metrics
2. Turnaround Time:
•A clear idea of delays internally AND externally
• Metrics can pinpoint delays to help avoid them on
future projects
• Get realistic timeframes for future projects
28. Most Valuable Metrics
3. TM Analysis:
• Content reuse
• New words submitted, words matched
• Match rates
• 100% & partial matches
• TM match trends (time)
• Overall TM match savings ($)
29. Most Valuable Metrics
3. TM Analysis:
• Provide a blueprint of savings on each
project/enterprise-wide
• Quantifies the value of a centralized TM
(even if segregated by business unit)
• Time savings based on matched language pairs
• Amount being saved based on past project reusability
30. Most Valuable Metrics
4. LSP Performance Ratings:
•Based on common problems:
• Quality - number of defects per 1000 words
• Average delivery times
• Cost-competitiveness
31. Most Valuable Metrics
4. LSP Performance Ratings:
•Which translators are performing better than others
•Which translators are best suited for each specific project
•Better position to negotiate annual contract rates
33. •$37 Billion industry
•28,000+ LSPs
•250,000+ Certified Translators

43. Process Optimization
Project completion stage: turnaround time
•Update your metrics and analyze the data
•Did a delay occur?
• What was the cause and how can it be avoided?
49. • 24-33% savings (average) 1st
year
• 40% second year
• Above 50% in third year
