2. Please Stand
The end of all things is near; therefore, be of
sound judgment and sober spirit for the purpose
of prayer. Above all, keep fervent in your love for
one another, because love covers a multitude of
sins. Be hospitable to one another without
complaint. As each one has received a special gift,
employ it in serving one another as good
1 Peter 4:7–11 2
3. Please Stand
stewards of the manifold grace of God. Whoever
speaks, is to do so as one who is speaking the
utterances of God; whoever serves is to do so as
one who is serving by the strength which God
supplies; so that in all things God may be glorified
through Jesus Christ, to whom belongs the glory
and dominion forever and ever. Amen.
1 Peter 4:7–11 3
10. Vigorous thinking
1 Peter 1:13…Therefore, prepare
your minds for action, keep sober in
spirit, fix your hope completely on
the grace to be brought to you at the
revelation of Jesus Christ.

11. Self control
1 Peter 5:8…Be of sober spirit, be on
the alert. Your adversary, the devil,
prowls around like a roaring lion,
seeking someone to devour.

…you also, as living stones, are being built
up as a spiritual house for a holy
priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices
acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

24. Talents and Accounting
Matthew 25:14–30 (NASB95)
14 “For it is just like a man about to go on a journey, who called his own slaves and entrusted his possessions to them. 15 “To
one he gave five talents, to another, two, and to another, one, each according to his own ability; and he went on his journey.
16 “Immediately the one who had received the five talents went and traded with them, and gained five more talents. 17 “In
the same manner the one who had received the two talents gained two more. 18 “But he who received the one talent went
away, and dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money. 19 “Now after a long time the master of those slaves came
and settled accounts with them. 20 “The one who had received the five talents came up and brought five more talents,
saying, ‘Master, you entrusted five talents to me. See, I have gained five more talents.’ 21 “His master said to him, ‘Well done,
good and faithful slave. You were faithful with a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your
master.’ 22 “Also the one who had received the two talents came up and said, ‘Master, you entrusted two talents to me. See,
I have gained two more talents.’ 23 “His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful slave. You were faithful with a few
things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your master.’ 24 “And the one also who had received the
one talent came up and said, ‘Master, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you did not sow and gathering where you
scattered no seed. 25 ‘And I was afraid, and went away and hid your talent in the ground. See, you have what is yours.’ 26
“But his master answered and said to him, ‘You wicked, lazy slave, you knew that I reap where I did not sow and gather
where I scattered no seed. 27 ‘Then you ought to have put my money in the bank, and on my arrival I would have received
my money back with interest. 28 ‘Therefore take away the talent from him, and give it to the one who has the ten talents.’ 29
“For to everyone who has, more shall be given, and he will have an abundance; but from the one who does not have, even
what he does have shall be taken away. 30 “Throw out the worthless slave into the outer darkness; in that place there will be
weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Seen as a slight but It serves as A warning For us
let us remember that time is only significant to those involved in it. God is not slow, but also God is above time. The nearness of Jesus’ return has been an encouragement and motivator of godly living for every generation of believers.
This section of 1 Peter is emphasized by stating the fact of the immanent return of Jesus Christ. We need to do the following BECAUSE he is returning.
Vigorous thinking-to be of sound mind. 1a to be in one’s right mind. 1b to exercise self control. 1b1 to put a moderate estimate upon one’s self, think of one’s self soberly. 1b2 to curb one’s passions.
Self-control-1 to be sober, to be calm and collected in spirit. 2 to be temperate, dispassionate, circumspect.
1 Peter 1:13…Therefore, prepare your minds for action, keep sober in spirit, fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

RUSH: …One thing about great comedy is that you never should explain it, even to people that don’t get it, but I’m going to take a risk with you since you seem to think that talent on loan from God is bragging. Let me tell you, as I have announced countless times on this program to other people who thought that I was claiming to be God. (Laughing) Talent on loan from God is my way of giving thanks to God for what he has blessed me with, among other things, my talent. The fact that it is on loan signifies that I realize I am but a passing speck in the cosmos, that I am here for a brief instant and will be gone. What I have simply is on loan, created by God, and I am grateful for it.
Ability- something mundane. Driving, cleaning, making a phone call
