3. I AM GIFTED

4. EPHESIANS 4:1-16
1 I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge
you to walk in a manner worthy of the
calling to which you have been
called, 2 with all humility and gentleness,
with patience, bearing with one another in
love, 3 eager to maintain the unity of the
Spirit in the bond of peace.

5. EPHESIANS 4:1-16
4 There is one body and one Spirit—just
as you were called to the one hope that
belongs to your call— 5 one Lord, one
faith, one baptism, 6 one God and Father
of all, who is over all and through all and
in all.

6. EPHESIANS 4:1-16
7 But grace was given to each one of
us according to the measure of Christ's
gift. 8 Therefore it says, “When He
ascended on high He led a host of
captives, and He gave gifts to men.” 9 (In
saying, “He ascended,” what does it mean
but that He had also descended into the
lower regions, the earth?

10 He who descended is the One who
also ascended far above all the heavens,
that He might fill all things.) 11 And He
gave the apostles, the prophets,
the evangelists, the shepherds and
teachers, 12 to equip the saints for the
work of ministry, for building up the body
of Christ,

13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith
and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to
mature manhood, to the measure of the
stature of the fullness of Christ, 14 so that
we may no longer be children, tossed to
and fro by the waves and carried about by
every wind of doctrine, by human cunning,
by craftiness in deceitful schemes.

15 Rather, speaking the truth in love, we
are to grow up in every way into Him who
is the head, into Christ, 16 from whom the
whole body, joined and held together by
every joint with which it is equipped, when
each part is working properly, makes the
body grow so that it builds itself up in love.

10. WHERE IS JESUS AND
WHAT IS HE DOING
TODAY?

11. 1. JESUS IS IN HEAVEN
WITH BELIEVERS.

12. EPHESIANS 4:8
8 … When He ascended on high He led a
host of captives, and He gave gifts to
men.

13. 2. JESUS IS SERVING
THE CHURCH.

14. “The church is like a body.”
It has many parts and they all work
together for health and life and
progress.
Everybody has their bit to contribute.

15. Jesus is working in the church
through the person, and the
presence, and the power of the
God the Holy Spirit.

16. Jesus is empowering leaders and
He is empowering God's people.

17. It’s the Holy Spirit who helps us to
become more like Jesus, and, as the
church, to treat one another more
like Jesus treats us.

18. 3. JESUS IS GIVING
GIFTS.

19. a. HE GIVES JESUS.

20. “CHRIST’S GIFT”

21. b. HE GIVES THE
HOLY SPIRIT.

22. To some degree, the Holy Spirit is
present and at work in the world, but
He is particularly and powerfully at
work in the people of God, particularly
when we assemble together.

23. c. HE GIVES PEOPLE.

24. YOU ARE A GIFT TO OTHERS.

SPIRITUAL GIFTS.

27. 1. It doesn’t really
matter whether it’s a
natural talent or a
supernatural gift.

28. NATURAL TALENT SUPERNATURAL GIFT
- is something you just
innately have from birth.
- is something you can
do before you’re a
Christian.
- is something you have
from your new birth.
- is something that
accompanies the
presence and the
power of the Holy Spirit
when you become a
Christian.

your spiritual gift is
trial and error.

- The leadership exists
to serve you.
- it’s more like a
business transaction.
- “How can I give the
least amount of money
and commitment and
get the most return on
investment?”
- The leadership exists
to equip you to serve
others.
- “How can I give my
money, my time, my
gifts, my capacities, my
abilities, and where
could I help bring unity
and health to our church
family?”

32. b. YOUR GIFT IS NOT
YOUR IDENTITY.

33. In Christ is your identity, and then
your gift is your activity.
Your identity in Christ explains who
you are; your spiritual gift helps
clarify what you do.

34. c. NINETEEN SPIRITUAL
GIFTS

35. That being said, there are four places
in the New Testament you’ll find lists
of what we call spiritual gifts.
For those of you with the gift of
administration, this is where you now
take notes.

lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy,
do it cheerfully.

You love truth and holiness.
This is where you can discern;
teaching the presence of Satan and
demons.

And those with the gift of
discernment are like an early warning
system for the church.

Who or where do you have a passion
to serve?
What do you have a burden to do?
Is there something you’re just
burdened for?

112. What needs do you see in the church?
What do you find joy in doing for others?
What opportunities has God already
provided for you to serve others?
What’s already working?

113. What are you best at and have the most
success in?
What have godly people said, “I see that in
you, and I want to encourage that”?
And what acts of service have given you the
deepest sense of satisfaction and joy?

114. It might be an indication of how
God has made you and the kind
of ministry that He’s prepared
for you.
