  • #12 Transgression Restoration Examination Did you ever wonder why so much is written about church discipline? Matthew 13:24–30 (ESV) 24 He put another parable before them, saying, “The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a man who sowed good seed in his field, 25 but while his men were sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat and went away. 26 So when the plants came up and bore grain, then the weeds appeared also. 27 And the servants of the master of the house came and said to him, ‘Master, did you not sow good seed in your field? How then does it have weeds?’ 28 He said to them, ‘An enemy has done this.’ So the servants said to him, ‘Then do you want us to go and gather them?’ 29 But he said, ‘No, lest in gathering the weeds you root up the wheat along with them. 30 Let both grow together until the harvest, and at harvest time I will tell the reapers, “Gather the weeds first and bind them in bundles to be burned, but gather the wheat into my barn.” ’ ”

  • #14 Galatians 5:19–21 Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

  • #24 Explain bookends in scripture. Teacher teaches Catechism Recipients support Shares all good things Greek things that have value Do good Fellow Christian Galatians 3:27 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. What was Christ’s teaching about ministers of the word? 1 Corinthians 9:14 In the same way, the Lord commanded that those who proclaim the gospel should get their living by the gospel.
  • #25 This must be related to the bookended scriptures. Galatians 6:7 Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. Tom Wright the charismatic Anglican scholar puts it this way: People who think they can do without serious teaching and emerge unscathed as Jesus-followers are fooling themselves: God, he says, is not mocked. Just as with the general truth (if people suppose that their wickedness goes unobserved, they are in for a shock), so with the more specific point here: to put it crudely, you reap what you sow; in other words, you get what you pay for.
  • #26 False teachers- Judaizers and false teachers. Becoming Jews Careful teachers- Word first, clear teaching, Christ crucified 2 Timothy 4:1–4 (ESV) 1 I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: 2 preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching. 3 For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, 4 and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths. “It is not important which teachers we listen to, Paul and his associates, or the teachers of the law.” Thus, they were already deceiving themselves, and leading themselves astray.
  • #27 Galatians 6:8 For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.
  • #28 What the false teaching caused Desires- I want what I want Pride- Spiritual Legalism- Christ + tradition Division- taking sides Preferences- I think it should be this way (MY WAY) Corruption = death All false systems of religion are so adjusted that they appeal to the fallen nature of man, satisfying his religious instinct for worship, while at the same time allowing him to go on in his sin. The teachings of the Judaizers catered to the fallen natures of the Galatians in that they made no demand for the necessity of regeneration nor for faith in an atoning sacrifice that paid for sin. In addition to that, their teachings stressed a salvation-by-works religion, which glorifies man, not God, and which allows him to go on in his sin while seeking to buy the favor of God by his so-called good works.
