The document contains excerpts from Ellen G. White discussing prophetic gifts and health issues. It warns that tobacco is poisonous and can cause diseases like tuberculosis and cancer. It also recounts visions she had of buildings being consumed by fire despite being deemed fireproof, foretelling the 1906 San Francisco earthquake and fires. The excerpts aim to demonstrate Ellen G. White's prophetic ministry and gift of prophecy.

Only apostles (church leadership) is listed above prophets. This shows us the importance that God places on the gift of prophecy, but also indicates that even a prophet is to be subject to, or under the direction of, the church. Prophets should work in cooperation with the church, not independent of it.

There will be false prophets and teachers, not only in the world, but among the people who profess to be Christians. The only way we can determine who is a true prophet or teacher is to test the things they say by what is written in the Bible. Anyone who teaches "heresies" (false teachings), cannot be considered God’s messenger.

The Bible is clear that accurate prediction of the future is one of the tests of a true prophet. But it is not the only test.
Even when signs, miracles and accurate predictions are done in Jesus’ name, if the person does not teach
according to God’s law and His word, that person is a false prophet.

God’s end time “remnant” people will have the gift of prophecy among them. God gives this gift to show His people the future, and to “build them up" and encourage them to face the trials of the last days.

The Seventh Day Adventist church meets both of these criteria.
They teach and follow the commandments of God, and they have the prophetic gift in the ministry of Ellen G. White. Mrs. White (1827 - 1915) met the tests of a prophet. She taught and followed the commandments of God, and was given prophetic insights into the future. Her writings on health were ahead of her time. Her devotional writings are among the best ever in building personal relationships with God.

God asks us to “test the spirits.” He wants us to take advantage of all the gifts and blessings He sends, but He does not want us to be fooled by the false teachers sent by Satan. We must test the teachings of all “prophets” to see if they are from God. Test the writings of Ellen White to see if they are from God.
What are some of the tests of a prophet?
1. A true prophet is in harmony with God’s word.
2. (fly in) A true prophet’s predictions come true.
3. (fly in) A true prophet’s teachings edify the church.
4. A true prophet exalts Christ, the Son of God.

5. A true prophet bears fruit.
Who was Ellen G. White?
Ellen (Harmon) White was born on November 26, 1827 near the village of Gorham, Maine.
At the age of nine an accident changed her life forever. While returning home from school, she was seriously injured by a stone thrown by a classmate.
For three weeks she was unconscious. It appeared she would not live long. She was unable to finish a formal education or participate in physical activities.
She became an avid student of the Bible
and attended all the religious meetings she could.
At age 17 she attended meetings presenting the imminent return of Jesus from the 2300 day prophecy of Daniel 8:14.
It was believed that He would return on October 22, 1844.
When Jesus did not come on that day, the believers were greatly disappointed. Ellen and the Advent believers studied and prayed, asking God for the answer to the prophecy.
It was then that God called Ellen to be a spokesperson for Him. She was of frail physical condition, but God used her in ministry for the next 70 years.
After her first vision she said:
“After I had the vision, and God gave me light, He bade me deliver it… But I shrank from it. I was young, and I thought they would not receive it from me.”
Over the years she received many more visions and instructions from God, which she wrote in articles, letters, and books.
No other woman in history has more written works than Ellen White.

In one article she wrote: It is a mistake to suppose that muscular strength depends on the use of animal food. The needs of the system can be better supplied, and more vigorous health can be enjoyed without its use. The grains, with fruits, nuts, and vegetables, contain all the nutritive properties necessary to make good blood. These elements are not so well or so fully supplied by a flesh diet. Had the use of flesh been essential to health and strength, animal food would have been included in the diet appointed man in the beginning.
Fruits, grains, and vegetables, prepared in a simple way, free from spice and grease of all kinds, make, with mild or cream, the most healthful diet. They impart nourishment to the body and give power of endurance and a vigor of intellect that are not produced by a stimulating diet.
Some evidences of her prophetic gift:
1.In 1864, when many doctors believed tobacco was beneficial in treating lung disease she wrote:
“Tobacco is a poison of the most deceitful and malignant kind. It is all the more dangerous because its effects upon the system are so slow, and scarcely perceivable.”
In 1957, almost 100 years later, the American Cancer Society concluded what is now well known in the medical field, smoking is a causative factor in lung cancer.
In 1905 she wrote: (read slide)
We now know that viruses (germs, as they were referred to by Mrs. White) are a factor in cancer.
