Current APNIC IPv4 delegation policy
• Since 15 April 2011, each APNIC account holder can
receive delegations up to a /22 from the APNIC 103/8 IPv4
address pool
• Since 27 May 2014, each APNIC account holder can
receive additional delegations up a /22 from the APNIC
non-103/8 IPv4 address pool

Why do we need the IPv4 Recovered
Pool waiting list?
• The Recovered Pool may not always have enough
resources for delegation
• APNIC created waiting list for unfulfilled IPv4 requests after
discussion at APNIC 41 Policy SIG and mailing list
discussion
• On 9 June, IPv4 Recovered Pool waiting list triggered
11
How does the waiting list work?
§ Any approved request from Recovered Pool will be added
to waiting list if it cannot be fulfilled
§ Position on waiting list will be based on timestamp in order
from oldest to newest
§ When additional recovered IPv4 address space is added to
Recovered Pool, requests on waiting list will be filled
according to their position

Waiting list
13
Current IPv4 delegation policy and
practice in other regions
• RIPE NCC: One /22 from the final /8 pool for each LIR.
Recovered IPv4 will be added to the final /8 pool.
• ARIN: General IPv4 free pool has run out. All qualified
requests from the free pool will be added to a waiting list.
There is a /10 reservation for the support of IPv6 transitions
• LACNIC: Soft Landing phase - maximum of /22 for each
Member every 6 months. Soon will move to the new
Members phase – only new Members can request up to a
/22
• AFRINIC: Expect to hit their final /8 in 2017
14
What’s next?
15
IPv4 will run out
It cannot continue to support
Internet growth
IPv6 is the best solution
Please consider transitioning
to IPv6
