Μια κοινωνική επιχείρηση συνδυάζει την επιχειρηματική δραστηριότητα με έναν κοινωνικό σκοπό. Κύριος στόχος της είναι να έχει θετικές κοινωνικές ή περιβαλλοντικές επιπτώσεις, αντί να μεγιστοποιήσει το κέρδος για τους ιδιοκτήτες ή τους μετόχους. Ο ορισμός αυτός περιλαμβάνει ένα ευρύ φάσμα οργανώσεων, από μεγάλους κοινωνικούς συνεταιρισμούς έως μικρές, κοινοτικές πρωτοβουλίες. Κοινωνική επιχειρηματικότητα • Η κοινωνική επιχειρηματικότητα είναι η χρήση των τεχνικών από νεοσύστατες εταιρείες και άλλους επιχειρηματίες για την ανάπτυξη, τη χρηματοδότηση και την εφαρμογή λύσεων σε κοινωνικά, πολιτιστικά ή περιβαλλοντικά ζητήματα. • Ένας κοινωνικός επιχειρηματίας είναι ένα πρόσωπο που επιδιώκει νέες εφαρμογές που έχουν τη δυνατότητα να λύσει τα προβλήματα που βασίζονται στην κοινότητα. This publication reflects the views only of the author, and the Commission cannot be held responsible for any use which may be made of the information contained therein. -6- 1.2 Ορισμοί: Χρήση των επιχειρήσεων για την επίτευξη κοινωνικής αλλαγής  Μια κοινωνική επιχείρηση έχει κοινωνικό ή περιβαλλοντικό σκοπό, με τουλάχιστον ένα μέρος του πλεονάσματός της να επανεπενδύεται στον κοινωνικό στόχο (Forfás 2013). • Συχνά οι κοινωνικές επιχειρήσεις καλύπτουν τα κενά υπηρεσιών που παραμελούνται από την κυβέρνηση ή θεωρούνται οικονομικά μη βιώσιμα από τις παραδοσιακές επιχειρήσεις. • Η Πρωτοβουλία Κοινωνικών Επιχειρήσεων της ΕΕ (ΕC 2011) ορίζει μια κοινωνική επιχείρηση ως «επιχείρηση της οποίας πρωταρχικός στόχος είναι η επίτευξη κοινωνικού αντίκτυπου αντί να παράγει κέρδος για τους ιδιοκτήτες και τους μετόχους· και η οποία χρησιμοποιεί τα πλεονάσματά της κυρίως για την επίτευξη αυτών των κοινωνικών στόχων· και το οποίο διαχειρίζονται οι κοινωνικοί επιχειρηματίες με υπεύθυνο, διαφανή και καινοτόμο τρόπο, ιδίως με τη συμμετοχή των εργαζομένων, των πελατών και των ενδιαφερόμενων μερών της επιχειρηματικής της δραστηριότητας». Μια κοινωνική επιχείρηση συνδυάζει την επιχειρηματική δραστηριότητα με έναν κοινωνικό σκοπό. Κύριος στόχος της είναι να έχει θετικές κοινωνικές ή περιβαλλοντικές επιπτώσεις, αντί να μεγιστοποιήσει το κέρδος για τους ιδιοκτήτες ή τους μετόχους.
