2. The People
• The Inuit lived in
Nunavut, North West
Territories and
Northern Quebec.
3. Homes
• In the winter the Inuit lived in igloos. The
Inuit made the igloos out of blocks of ice.
They stacked them in a circle and it made
a dome.
• When summer came the Inuit made tents
out of wooden poles or rib bones of a
whales. They spread out in a circle and
made a cone. Then they covered it with
animal skin.
4. Clothing
• The Inuit made parkas that caribou hides. The women
had a pouch on their parka to put there children in.
• The Inuit’s pants were made of caribou hides. The
caribou hides kept them warm from freezing ice, snow
and wind.
• The Inuit’s mittens were made of sealskin the sealskin is
water proof.
• The Inuit boots are called kamiks. The kamiks that they
wore on land were made from caribou skin. The kamiks
that work in water were made from seal skin.
• Most Inuit put decorations on their clothing. The
decorations were usually made from rabbit fur.
5. Food
The Inuit usually had caribou for meals. The Inuit ate caribou bones,
fat, Meat and blood.
Another one of the Inuit's food was fish. They fished in Arctic ocean
and in the water in the north. Lot’s of times they ate arctic char. The
Inuit can eat it raw, frozen, dried or cooked
Where the Inuit lived they could not grow vegetables. but they did have
nuts and berries.
Bannock is another food that the Inuit ate. Bannock is a kind of bread.
The Inuit also ate something called pemmican. Pemmican is made
from animal fat, meat and berries.
6. Tools
• The Inuit had many tools one of the tools they use is
called a Unag A Unag is a kind of harpoon. The Inuit
used It for hunting seals and whales.
• Another one of the tools the Inuit used was called Nitsiq
it was used to pull animals out of the water.
• The Inuit also used something called a Komatiks the
Inuit sometimes had to travel far so the used something
called Komatiks. Komatiks are a sleds pulled by dogs.
• Inuit used two things to travel one is called kayak and
the other one is called Umiaks. The Inuit used them to
travel in the water. They were used for hunting and
fishing. The also carried people and goods from place to
place.
